One of the most promising applications of UWB is in precise location tracking.

Whether it’s locating a lost device in your home or pinpointing a valuable item in a crowded space, UWB’s ability to deliver exact location data is unparalleled.

For example, while traditional methods might help you know a device is nearby, UWB can guide you to its precise location within centimeters—reducing frustration and saving time.

As UWB technology continues to evolve and integrate into more devices, its potential to streamline and secure our daily interactions is boundless.

With its superior precision and security, UWB is set to become an indispensable feature in future smart devices, making everyday tasks more convenient and efficient.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Design

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G not only introduces a new price point but also debuts a fresh design aesthetic expected from the yet-to-be-released, more premium Nord 4.

In my eyes the device sets itself apart with its eye-catching green hue, featuring a subtle marbled effect that distinguishes it from others in the same price range.

I had the chance to review the marble-inspired edition, which sports a vibrant and youthful appeal.

For those with a taste for the classics, OnePlus offers a standard black version known as Dark Chrome

In terms of build, the Nord CE 4 feels robust despite its plastic body, mimicking a glass-like finish at the back.

After a thorough inspection, I felt that the Nord CE 4’s unique design element is its slightly raised, capsule-shaped camera module which is transparent, cleverly showcasing the marbling beneath.

This thoughtful aesthetic that merges functionality with style might well appeal to a youthful audience looking for something a bit different.

And trust me, this device is different.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Design and Display
OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Display

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G features a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display, boasting a full HD+ resolution of 2,412 x 1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz, which ensures smooth scrolling and dynamic visuals.

I like that the display supports HDR playback on platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime, enhancing the viewing experience with deep blacks and vibrant, albeit sometimes overly punchy, colors.

The slim bezels contribute to an immersive screen presence, making media consumption particularly enjoyable.

Additionally, the AMOLED panel facilitates an always-on display (AOD) feature and houses an optical fingerprint reader for enhanced security and ease of access.

A standout feature of the Nord CE 4 is its IP54 rating, which offers resistance to dust and splashes, suitable for everyday challenges.

One of the more intriguing features is the Aqua Touch technology, similar to that found in the higher-end OnePlus 12, that allows the touchscreen to be responsive even when the fingers are wet.

I tried it out and got surprisingly good results most of the time.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Cameras

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Cameras
OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Cameras

Coming now to the optical capabilities, the OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G introduces a significant shift in its camera setup by opting for the 50MP LYT600 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, moving away from the previously utilised Sony IMX890 sensor.

In broad daylight, this new primary camera performs admirably, capturing detailed, colour-accurate images suitable for everyday photography.

It tends to preserve natural colours and manages a balanced white balance even under harsh sunlight, though it occasionally struggles with capturing the correct tone of dark blue.

The device maintains a natural look in skin tones, but the software has a tendency to soften facial details.

The portrait mode impresses with its rich bokeh effect and precise edge detection.

While the “Hi-Res” mode is capable of capturing crisp details, colour consistency varies.

Generally, though the output was to my liking.

The 8MP ultra-wide camera presents similar colour reproduction to the primary sensor but falls short in terms of dynamic range.

Unlike its predecessor, the Nord CE4 does not include a dedicated macro camera, limiting its capability for extreme close-up shots.

The 16MP front-facing camera is quite capable, producing detailed selfies with effective edge detection in portrait mode.

Low light conditions, however, present challenges for the Nord CE4; details become less distinct, textures can appear flat, and noise becomes noticeable in dimly lit environments.

Despite these drawbacks, the dynamic range tends to be restricted, particularly in poorly lit street scenes, resulting in less detail in shadows and dark areas.

I do have to give some credit also to OnePlus for the user experience with its cleanly designed camera UI, which simplifies access to various modes and filters, adding to the overall usability of the camera system on the Nord CE4.

This OnePlus handset is powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and offers 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

I did not notice any lag or heating issues while using the device.

It is fairly capable of handling day-to-day tasks like scrolling through social media.

The base variant now offers 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, priced at Rs 24,999.

The top model (Rs 26,999), which I am also using, offers 256GB storage.

With synthetic benchmarks, the phone managed scores that were on par with devices both at and above its price point.

The phone offers mid-range graphics performance but falls short when it comes to fast-paced first-person shooter games.

Audio output was great enough for normal usecases and the fingerprint sensor was snappy at authentication.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Software and Battery

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Software and Battery
OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Software

The OnePlus Nord CE4 delivers a streamlined software experience with its iteration of OxygenOS based on Android 14, ensuring a smooth and responsive user interface.

Despite its generally clean setup, the device comes with some pre-installed apps, which some users might find unnecessary and may choose to uninstall.

There are elements from Oppo’s ColorOS 14 incorporated in the the Nord CE4 which isn’t a bad thing by any means.

Notably, it includes Fluid Cloud, a feature similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island, which integrates interactive capabilities within the status bar.

Additionally, the device leverages AI with Smart Image Matting for enhanced image editing, and it offers practical functionality like File Dock, allowing for easy drag-and-drop file management from the Smart Sidebar into supported apps.

Battery performance on the Nord CE4 is a standout aspect, with its 5,500 mAh capacity providing more than enough power to last through a day, even with high usage involving the always-on display (AOD) and the high refresh rate screen.

The phone’s design manages to keep a similar weight to its predecessors at 186 grams, despite the larger battery.

Moreover, the 100W fast charging capability is a significant upgrade, capable of recharging the battery from empty to full in just under 40 minutes, making it an excellent choice for users with heavy mobile demands.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Final Verdict

OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Final Verdict
OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G: Final Verdict

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G is an enticing proposition at Rs 24,999.

It has a distinctive design, solid performance, and robust battery life.

It challenges the mid-range market with unique features and OnePlus’s signature OxygenOS experience.

While it performs admirably in many aspects, the camera system and the presence of bloatware might give some potential buyers pause.

However, for those valuing design, display quality, and software experience over cutting-edge camera capabilities, the Nord CE 4 stands out as a strong contender.

This OS supports the advanced features of the earbuds, including their AI capabilities and smart noise cancellation, ensuring a smooth and integrated user experience.

Nothing Introduces Ear and Ear (a) along with new ChatGPT Integrations .Details?

Nothing today announced during its Q1 Community Update, live from Tokyo, Japan that it will be establishing a new foundation of its audio product suite with two new wireless earbuds, Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a).

Simultaneously, Nothing announced it will enhance its overall user experience with industry-first ChatGPT integrations in its audio and smartphone products.

A culmination of consistent refinement in design and engineering over the past three years, Nothing’s newest audio products offer a premium user experience for the audiophile and everyday listener alike.

The company has stripped back the product numbers on its audio products to centre the focus around the product and the user experience.

Nothing Ear is built for audiophiles seeking the best sound quality while Nothing Ear (a) is for those looking for the ultimate daily audio companion.

“By integrating ChatGPT with Nothing earbuds, including the new Nothing Ear and Ear (a), and with Nothing OS, we’ve taken our first steps towards change, and there’s more to come,” said Carl Pei, CEO and Co-Founder of Nothing. “As always, we look forward to feedback from our community.”

Nothing Ear – Sound, Evolved

A refinement of Ear (2), Ear preserves and evolves Nothing’s iconic transparent earbud design to deliver the company’s best-ever audio experience, delivering richer sound without compromising on performance.

Sound

Engineered with audiophiles in mind, Nothing Ear touts Nothing’s most advanced driver system to date with a custom 11 mm dynamic driver featuring premium materials carefully selected to deliver the most authentic and clear sound, including a ceramic diaphragm for overall richness and crisper highs.

Nothing has improved the dual chamber design from that of Ear (2) with two additional vents to improve airflow, delivering clearer sound as a result.

Ear supports the LHDC 5.0 and LDAC codec for high-resolution streaming over Bluetooth, resulting in powerfully pure audio.

Ear can reach up to 1 Mbps 24 bit/192 kHz with LHDC 5.0 (Low Latency High-Definition Audio Codec) and up to 990 kbps and frequencies up to 24 bit/96 kHz with LDAC.

Nothing’s Advanced Equaliser provides more customisation through a simple graphical interface on the Nothing X app.

Users can elevate their listening experience with Q Factor and frequency control, as well as create separate profiles for different genres.

When an individual creates a Personal Sound Profile on the Nothing X app, the data recorded is used in real-time to adjust equaliser levels based on the hearing test results.

ANC

Ear features Nothing’s most effective and intelligent noise-cancelling powers.

The new Smart ANC algorithm checks for noise leakage between the earbuds and the ear canal and adds more noise cancellation accordingly.

Ear also accounts for background distractions with Adaptive ANC, which automatically applies one of 3 noise cancellation levels, high, medium, and low.

At 45 dB, Ear offers noise cancellation that is almost two times that of Ear (2). With a bandwidth of up to 5000 Hz, Ear can effectively detect and reduce more challenging sounds.

Performance

Powered to go further, Ear’s compact custom driver allows for a larger battery, resulting in battery life that lasts 25% longer than Ear (2) – lasting up to 40.5 hours after a full charge with the charging case or 8.5 hours of non-stop playback. F

or quick power-ups, Ear supports wireless charging at 2.5W. Ten minutes of fast charge provides ten hours of listening time with the case.

Ear features Nothing’s most advanced Clear Voice Technology yet with a new talk mic design, which allows for less obstruction when speaking on a call.

A new additional airway has been added on the stem so wind has a clearer pathway, which reduces interference by 60% compared to Ear (2).

Users can seamlessly switch between devices in real time with Dual Connection.

With Low Lag Mode, Ear can reduce audio lag compared to normal use, depending on the connection with the other end device for seamless gaming.

Pinch controls are accessible to skip tracks, alternate between noise cancellation modes, and adjust volume.

Nothing Ear (a) – Let’s Play

Made for every part of every day, Nothing Ear (a) is for music lovers. With a head-turning design and powerful noise-cancelling technology, it’s the ultimate daily audio companion.

Designed in London

Designed in London and in true signature fashion, Ear (a) features Nothing’s transparent design, but takes a new direction with a fresh bubble design and yellow colour.

With soft contours and a slim rectangular frame, Ear (a) feels as good in the pocket as it does in the palm.

Hello, Yellow!

Ear (a) yellow is Nothing’s first product in a colour outside of black and white.

Not only does yellow perfectly compliment the playfulness of Ear (a)’s design, it is a colour that, by theory, aligns with Nothing’s value of transparency.

If one strips back how colours are built, they are left with the primary colours. This purist approach to colour led Nothing to Ear (a) yellow – a vivid and playful audio product.

ANC

With Nothing’s new Smart ANC algorithm, Ear (a) checks the seal within one’s ear canal for noise leakage and generates more noise cancellation to block out as much noise as possible.

Adaptive ANC detects distractions in your environment and automatically applies high, medium, or low noise cancellation levels to your surrounding noise.

At 45 dB, Ear (a) offers noise cancellation that is almost two times that of Ear (2).

Additionally, with a bandwidth of up to 5000 Hz, Ear (a) can effectively detect and reduce more challenging sounds.

Sound

Ear (a)’s new driver delivers 2.5x more transient power that takes advantage of Nothing’s game-changing dual chamber design.

This increase in power delivers an even deeper and more powerful bass performance.

To protect sound details, Ear (a) is Hi-Res Audio Certified. It can stream high-resolution audio over Bluetooth connections at up to 990 kbps at 24 bit/96 kHz and is compatible with the widely supported LDAC codec* for high-resolution streaming over Bluetooth.

Performance

Ear (a)’s 500 mAh battery in the charging case and 46 mAh battery in each bud allows users to get up to 42.5 hours of music playback after a full charge with the charging case.

For speedy power-ups, Ear (a) can Fast Charge for ten minutes and deliver ten hours of music playback (with case and ANC turned off).

For easy activity switching, Ear (a) can be connected to two devices at the same time.

Like Ear, Ear (a)’s Low Lag Mode reduces audio lag compared to normal use, depending on the connection with the other end device.

Pinch controls are accessible to skip tracks, switch between noise cancellation modes, and adjust volume.

ChatGPT Integration

Guided by a mission to advance consumer tech products’ transition to AI, as well as simplify and enhance the user experience, Nothing has integrated Nothing earbuds and Nothing OS with ChatGPT to offer users instant access to knowledge directly from the devices they use most, earbuds and smartphones.

Through the new integration, users with the latest Nothing OS and ChatGPT installed on their Nothing phones will be able to pinch-to-speak to the most popular consumer AI tool in the world directly from Nothing earbuds, including the newly launched Ear and Ear (a).

Nothing will also improve the Nothing smartphone user experience in Nothing OS by embedding system-level entry points to ChatGPT, including screenshot sharing and Nothing-styled widgets. For more details about the rollout, please visit nothing.tech.

Pricing and Availability

Ear is priced at INR 11,999 with sales starting on 29th April and Ear (a) at INR 7,999 with sales starting on 22nd April.

They are available on Flipkart, Croma and Vijay sales. Ear and Ear (a) will be available at a special launch price of INR 10,999 and INR 5,999 (with offers) respectively on Flipkart.

Sony’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VI has been kept under wraps for a while but now rumours are suggesting a special event scheduled for next month.

A recent post on Weibo has revealed a leaked teaser for the “Xperia Special Event” scheduled for Friday, May 17th.

According to rumours, the Xperia 1 VI could see a departure from some of its predecessors’ signature features.

For instance, the much-touted 4K display may be replaced with a 2K panel.

Additionally, the device’s tall and thin 21:9 aspect ratio, a hallmark of the Xperia lineup, might be tweaked to a slightly wider and shorter 19.5:9 ratio.

While these changes could be seen as compromises, they could also open up opportunities for Sony to make the Xperia 1 VI more accessible and competitive in the market.

Sony has long struggled to gain a significant foothold in the global smartphone market, with reports suggesting a mere 0.35% market share.

However, the rumoured changes to the Xperia 1 VI could potentially allow Sony to address pricing concerns that have historically hindered the lineup’s broader appeal.

Last year’s Xperia 1 V carried a hefty $1,399 price tag, which may have been a barrier for many consumers.

FAQs

What can we expect from the upcoming Xperia Special Event?

The Xperia Special Event, set for May 17th, is anticipated to unveil Sony’s latest flagship, the Xperia 1 VI.

This event follows Sony’s tradition of yearly launches, sparking interest in what new advancements the Xperia 1 VI will bring compared to its predecessors.

Why might Sony replace the 4K display with a 2K panel in the Xperia 1 VI?

Sony is rumoured to be considering a shift from a 4K to a 2K display in the new Xperia 1 VI to make the device more accessible and cost-effective.

This change could help reduce production costs and lower the retail price, potentially increasing the device’s appeal in a competitive market.

How could the change in aspect ratio affect the Xperia 1 VI’s design?

The rumoured change to a 19.5:9 aspect ratio in the Xperia 1 VI might offer a slightly wider and shorter form factor than the traditional 21:9 displays found in previous models.

This could enhance user comfort and usability, appealing to a broader audience by deviating from the elongated design typical of earlier Xperia phones.

What impact could these changes have on Sony’s position in the smartphone market?

By adjusting features like the display and aspect ratio, Sony might position the Xperia 1 VI as a more competitive option in the high-end smartphone market.

These changes, coupled with potential pricing adjustments, could attract a larger customer base and improve Sony’s modest market share.

Samsung Galaxy Devices Face Green Line Display Issue After Updates

0
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Rumoured for an Early Release This Summer

Highlights

  • Green line issue affects multiple Samsung Galaxy models including S21 and S22 series.
  • Users report the problem appearing after software updates like One UI 6.0.
  • Potential hardware causes include faulty display connectors or flex cables.
  • Samsung has previously addressed similar display issues with repairs and replacements.

A peculiar display issue has been plaguing some older Samsung Galaxy devices, leaving users perplexed and frustrated.

Dubbed the ‘green line issue,’ this problem manifests as a thin, vertical green line that appears on the screen, hampering the device’s functionality.

Reports of the Glitch Spread Across Multiple Models

While the issue seems to primarily affect the Galaxy S21 series, particularly the S21 Ultra and S21 FE models, it is not limited to these devices alone.

Reports of the green line glitch have surfaced across a wide range of Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy A73, Galaxy M21, Galaxy M52 5G, Galaxy S22 series, and even the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Interestingly, many users claim that the issue appeared shortly after installing software updates, such as One UI 6.0 or the April 2024 security patch.

One user reported noticing the line immediately after updating their Galaxy S21 FE, while another encountered it after installing the April patch on their Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The Conundrum of Software Updates

This correlation between software updates and the green line issue has left users bewildered and prompted some to take precautionary measures.

Some users have even started recording videos while installing updates on their phones, hoping to provide evidence that the issue, if it arises, was not caused by physical damage.

While it’s tempting to attribute the green line issue solely to software updates, a closer examination reveals that the problem might have a hardware component as well.

The most likely culprit seems to be a faulty display connector or flex cable, which links the display to the phone’s main circuit board.

Any damage or looseness within these internal components can lead to display malfunctions.

Potential Causes and Samsung’s Response

Samsung Galaxy Devices Face Green Line Display Issue After Updates
Samsung Galaxy Devices Face Green Line Display Issue After Updates

One possible explanation for the correlation between software updates and the green line issue is that the updates, combined with environmental factors, might generate enough heat (especially on phones with Samsung’s Exynos chipsets) to exacerbate or reveal pre-existing hardware defects within the display assembly.

While Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge this issue, the company has offered repairs and replacements for similar problems experienced by Galaxy S20 series users in the past.

FAQs

What is the green line issue on Samsung Galaxy devices?

The green line issue on Samsung Galaxy devices manifests as a thin vertical green line on the screen, which can disrupt the display’s functionality.

This problem has been reported primarily on the Galaxy S21 series but also affects other models such as the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Which Samsung Galaxy models are affected by the green line display issue?

Reports indicate that the green line display issue is not confined to one model, affecting a range of Samsung Galaxy devices including the S21 Ultra, S21 FE, Galaxy A73, Galaxy M21, Galaxy M52 5G, and even the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

How do software updates relate to the green line issue on Samsung devices?

Many users have noticed the green line issue shortly after installing software updates, suggesting a potential link between the update process and the display malfunction.

This has led some to speculate that the updates might trigger or exacerbate underlying hardware issues.

What are the possible causes of the green line on Samsung Galaxy screens?

While some speculate that software updates could be a factor, the more likely cause appears to be hardware-related, particularly issues with the display connector or flex cable.

These components, if damaged or loosely connected, can lead to display problems such as the green line.

Has Samsung responded to the green line display issue?

As of now, Samsung has not officially acknowledged the widespread nature of the green line issue across multiple Galaxy models.

However, the company has a history of offering repairs and replacements for similar display problems in past models like the Galaxy S20 series.

As reported by 9to5Google, the “Selfie GIFs” feature has been rumoured since January and is now making its way to the Messages app.

While the feature has yet to reach a wide audience, Google has already published a support article providing detailed instructions on how to use “Selfie GIFs”.

However, as of now, the feature is not visible in either the stable or beta versions of the Google Messages app, suggesting that the rollout could be server-side or a rare instance where the stable version receives the update before the beta.

Under the new arrangement, Paytm customers will be prompted to grant permission to use a fresh UPI ID associated with one of four major banks – Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, or YES Bank.

Paytm said in a statement, “Following NPCI’s approval on March 14, 2024, to onboard OCL as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP) on the Multi Payment Service Provider API Model, Paytm has expedited the integration with Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), and YES Bank. All four banks are now operational on the TPAP, streamlining the process for Paytm to shift user accounts to these PSP banks. The company has started transitioning ‘@paytm’ handles users to these banks, ensuring seamless UPI payments.”

Users will have the option to select their preferred banking partner from this list.

While the transition process may require users to update their UPI handles, the core functionality of sending and receiving money through Paytm’s platform will remain unaffected.

The company aims to make this shift as seamless as possible, ensuring minimal disruption for its vast user base.

The decision to migrate users to new banking partners comes in the aftermath of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposing stringent restrictions on PPBL.

In January 2024, the central bank barred PPBL from accepting new deposits and conducting credit transactions beyond February 29, citing persistent non-compliance and material supervisory concerns.

Further compounding the issue, the RBI prohibited PPBL from onboarding new customers in March.

These regulatory actions dealt a significant blow to Paytm’s unified payments interface (UPI) market share, which fell to a four-year low of 9% in March, according to data from the NPCI.

The migration process will commence with users holding ‘@paytm’ handles, who will be prompted to switch to a new UPI ID linked to one of the four banking partners.

Paytm reassures its customers that this transition will not disrupt their ability to conduct financial transactions through the platform.

FAQs

How will Paytm users be affected by the migration to new UPI IDs?

The company is focused on making this change as smooth as possible for its users.

What are the benefits of Paytm’s new banking partnerships for UPI transactions?
