Apple is gearing up to release a second-generation Apple Vision Pro headset. We might see a release in the second half of 2025.

Famous Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in his recent Medium post titled “AI spatial computing to be the main selling point for new M5-powered Vision Pro; new Apple suppliers like Zhaowei in focus” revealed the details of the upcoming Apple plans.

It was also specified that the new version won’t see many changes in design or overall specs. The next-gen model will be powered by the M5 chip, which will be the major upgrade from the M2 chip found in the current model.

According to Kuo, the M5-powered Vision Pro is expected to enter mass production in 2025.

The M5 chip is expected to provide a significant boost in performance. It will be particularly designed to enable advanced Apple Intelligence features.

“The biggest design challenge for Vision Pro/head-mounted display devices is that the human-machine user interface needs to be more intuitive and efficient. Apple Intelligence/GenAI is expected to improve this significantly. Combining eye tracking, gesture control, and Apple Intelligence should provide a better user experience for spatial computing,” Kuo mentions.

As of now, it’s unclear if Apple plans to bring these features to the first-gen Vision Pro as well or not. However, certain reports and murmurs in the tech community suggest that Apple is working on integrating Apple Intelligence into the current Vision Pro model.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple Intelligence will be the chief selling point of an M5-based Apple Vision Pro

Kuo in his Medium posts also highlighted that despite the power upgrade the price for the second-gen Vision Pro is likely to remain close to the original’s $3,499 starting point.

Rumours also suggest that Apple is developing a more affordable entry-level version of the Vision Pro headset. This will be aimed at expanding the accessibility of the device to a wide consumer base.

Kuo also hinted at the supply chain of M5 Vision Pro suggesting that not much will be changing in that sphere. Kuo wrote, “The supply chain for the M5 Vision Pro will mostly stay the same. New Apple suppliers such as Zhaowei are likely to attract more investor attention. Unaffected by existing product sales, these new suppliers may be better positioned to reflect positive trends in Vision Pro.”

Kuo is an analyst at TF International Securities and is known for sharing observations and predictions of tech industry trends.

iPhone 16 Teardown Reveals Easier Repairability and New Battery Tech

0

Highlights

  • The iPhone 16 stands out for its easy repairability and battery replacement.
  • iFixit’s teardown reveals new electric adhesive technology in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
  • The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max remain harder to repair but feature larger batteries and enhanced durability.

Both iPhone 16 and 16 Plus scored an unprecedented 7/10 on repairability from iFixit. (Image credit – iFixit)

iPhone 16 launch may have received a lacklustre response leaving many Apple fans underwhelmed, but there are certain aspects where the new iPhones are scoring well. Easy repairability is one such aspect. Many experts and reviewers have already pointed it out and now with every new analysis, we are just getting confirmation that iPhone 16 might be the most easily repairable iPhone in years.

A recent teardown of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus by iFixit also reaffirms this. The video demonstrates how these new iPhone models are significantly easier to repair especially when it comes to battery replacement.

We have the new electric adhesive technology to thank for this.

This improvement earned Apple its highest-ever repairability score for the iPhone.

The teardown showed that Apple is using a special adhesive that makes removing the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus batteries rather easy. By applying an electrical current through the adhesive, it quickly loses its stickiness. This allows technicians to swap out the battery easily. It is also less time-consuming to replace iPhone 16 batteries.

In fact, the iFixit video does it in about 90 seconds.

“The dual-entry design, first introduced on the 14 series, remains very elegant. Once inside, lots of components are independently accessible with little to no additional disassembly. The layout is smart, prioritizing access to critical repairs like battery and camera replacement. In past models, it was normal to see, for example, battery pull tabs blocked by a Taptic Engine, which was blocked by a speaker, which was blocked by a big grounding bracket—all of that having to come out in sequence. The 16’s design offers independent access to the battery, the speaker, the Taptic Engine, cameras, display, back cover, and so on. It’s really thoughtfully laid out.” – iFixit.

Apple recommends using a simple 9V battery with two alligator clip cables to complete the process. This earned the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus an impressive 7/10 repairability score from iFixit.

However, the electric adhesive is only available on the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.

Higher-end models, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max don’t have this technology.

The iPhone 16 Pro has a metallic battery casing. The top model Pro Max does not have the same case, which may be in preparation for upcoming EU battery regulations.

Another Popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything put the iPhone 16 Pro Max through a series of durability tests. This included a scratch test, a brutal fire test, and bend tests from several angles. While the phone did pick up some scratches, it survived all other challenges.

The teardown also highlighted some interesting battery changes.

The iPhone 16 Pro has a 9.4% larger battery compared to last year’s model. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus saw increases of 6.3% and 6.6%, respectively.

The metallic battery design in the iPhone 16 Pro is believed to help with heat dissipation and could lead to higher battery densities in future models.

Apple has definitely improved repairability for some models. But this is limited to iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus only. The absence of the electric adhesive in Pro models makes them still harder to repair.

Overall, the iPhone 16 lineup showcases new technology and increased durability. It is surely making these iPhones more user-friendly for repairs.

FAQs

Q1. What makes the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus more easily repairable?

Answer. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus feature new electric adhesive technology that allows for easy battery replacement by applying an electric current to remove the adhesive, earning them high repairability scores.

Q2. Do the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max also have easy repairability?

Answer. No, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max do not feature an electric adhesive technology, making them harder to repair. They do, however, have larger batteries and enhanced durability.

Microsoft has announced plans to simplify the Xbox gaming experience. The company is merging the Xbox Game Pass app into the main Xbox mobile app.

This change is aimed at streamlining the user experience.  It will also now allow players to explore the entire Xbox gaming library without switching between two separate apps.

As of now, Xbox players on mobile (both iOS and Android) have two apps to access. One is the Xbox app that provides console access, game streaming, and social features. The other one is the Xbox Game Pass app, which lets players access a subscription-based library of downloadable games.

Once the announced merger of Xbox Game Pass App and Main Xbox App is done, users will be able to manage everything through a single app.

Joe Skrebels, Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief in a press statement said, “Starting this week, we’re streamlining the mobile app experience by moving features from the separate Xbox Game Pass app into the Xbox app.”

At first, this merger will start with Xbox beta members. However, the plan is to roll out the new changes gradually to all users.

Microsoft also announced that as a part of the changes new downloads of the Xbox Game Pass app will be blocked from November.

“These updates will be available for Xbox beta members on mobile and will be coming to everyone soon. As part of these changes, we will no longer support new downloads of the Xbox Game Pass app, starting in November” Skrebels added.

Blocking new downloads in the Xbox Game Pass app will encourage players to shift to the unified Xbox app.

As per certain reports, the Xbox Game Pass app will be fully phased out eventually. The press statement also revealed, “Key features – like the ability to explore Game Pass and manage your membership – will now be found in one place with the Xbox app on mobile. You’ll be able to browse the full Game Pass catalogue to find your favourite games and stay in the loop with alerts for new games coming to the service. If you’re a Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll also be able to view and claim your Perks. Game Pass Ultimate members can also stream select games through Xbox Cloud Gaming on their iOS or Android devices using a supported browser at xbox.com/play.”

Apart from merging both Xbox apps, Microsoft also announced several other updates and features in the press statement.

Other announced features include starting games as soon as updates go live, new Wish List notifications, and improvements to the Windows version of the Xbox app.

These announced changes are aimed at making the Xbox experience more user-friendly and convenient.

Microsoft has been focused on streamlining and enhancing the accessibility of its gaming platforms.

WhatsApp has been consistent in always adding new features to enhance the user experience.

It was previously reported that the popular messaging app is currently in the works to introduce new augmented reality (AR) feature effects for video calls.

Now more recent reports suggest WhatsApp is taking things even further by integrating these effects directly into the camera. Here’s what we know about the new in-camera WhatsApp features.

PhoneArena in its latest report suggests that the recent WhatsApp is offering new in-camera features in its beta update for Android (version 2.24.20.20).

In the beta update that is currently available on the Google Play Store, the app is testing a feature that allows users to apply effects and filters while using the camera.

Previously, these effects were only available during video calls.

However, now users would be able to use these effects and filters for photos and videos. It aims to offer more creative freedom to the users.

The report also suggests that WhatsApp is adding a new filter button in its camera interface. It will allow users to easily switch between different filters with just a tap.

These filters include various editing options such as skin-smoothing for getting that perfect selfie or a background-changing feature that was earlier limited to video calls. This means users would now be able to blur out the background or replace it with virtual scenes.

As of now, these in-camera effects are only available to some beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android.

However, we can expect the feature to roll out to a wider user base in the coming weeks.

With these updates, WhatsApp will be the third Meta social media app after Facebook and Instagram to have in-camera effects.

Meanwhile, this is not the only new feature we will be able to see in WhatsApp future updates.

In other WhatsApp news, the app is also testing a feature that will allow users to tag contacts in their status updates. It will be similar to tagging on social media platforms.

Moreover, the messaging platform is reportedly working on features that would help users combat spam more effectively.

While the exact details of these features are currently unavailable, we are hoping to get an official update on what’s coming soon.
