Inspired by the use of technology in our everyday life, Rajat Tyagi, student of a private university in Noida has recently come up with an ICT enabled tool to detect overflowing sewers.

Rajat, a final year BTech Aeronautical Engineering student at Amity University received an award in the recently held Noida Authority’s Swachh Innovative Technology Challenge for developing a gadget by combining information and communication technologies (ICT). He won under the liquid waste management category. A total of 154 entries were received in five categories — social inclusion, zero dump, plastic waste management, transparency, and liquid waste management.

On what inspired Rajat, a native of Uttarakhand, to develop such tool, he says that overflowing sewers are a major nuisance in rural areas. “To address the problem I thought of making an ICT-based sewer overflow monitoring tool,” says Rajat while talking to MyMobile India. The project has been implemented by the Noida authority at a Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) in the city.

According to him, the newly developed tool sends alert on time, date, location, etc whenever it detects overflow in sewers or drains to the monitoring agency. The tool is equipped with a unique location tag, which will help the monitoring units to locate the device and thus drain the overflowing sewer. The device can also control the flow pumps at sewage pumping stations.

Smart segregation dustbin
Another student Nikhil Kumar from BTech (Automobile Engineering) stream of the University has been awarded for developing a smart segregation dustbin (SSD). The SSD equipped with ultrasonic sensors allows it to detect human presence. “Once the waste is dumped in the dustbin, a loop inside the bin moves via an object-detection sensor and identifies if the waste is wet or dry. A moisture sensor then determines the direction of waste while a servo motor initiates the segregation flap,” says Nikhil.

OnePlus is reportedly coming up with the successor of OnePlus Nord 2 soon, sometime in February. Dubbed OnePlus Nord 2T, the mid-range smartphone is tipped to feature MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC, which could be paired with up to 12GB of RAM. In comparison, the OnePlus Nord 2 was launched with an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The phone is likely to include 80W fast charging support and a triple rear camera setup highlighted by a 50MP primary sensor.

If the reports are to be believed, the OnePlus 2T will run Android 12-based OxygenOS 12. The device is said to sport a 6.43-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate — just like the OnePlus Nord 2. Interestingly, the smartphone may or may not have a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

In terms of optics, the much-anticipated OnePlus Nord 2T is said to feature a triple rear camera setup having a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP sensor paired with an ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. India eyes native operating system to rival Android, iOS: Here’s what the government said

Rajeev-Chandrasekhar-MoS-Electronics-IT

In an interesting move aimed to break the operating system monopoly enjoyed by Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS, the government is considering coming up with a policy that will facilitate an ecosystem for the industry to create an indigenous OS as an alternative to these two tech majors.

According to a PTI report quoting Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, “At present, mobile phones are dominated by two operating systems – Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS that are driving the hardware ecosystem as well. There is no third one. Therefore, in a lot of ways there is tremendous interest in MeitY and in the Government of India to even create a new handset operating system. We are talking to people. We are looking at a policy for that.”

The government is looking for capabilities within start-up and academic ecosystems for development of an indigenous operating system (OS), the minister said.

It must be noted that the operating system is the main software of any computer and mobile device that weaves in the entire hardware and software system for effective functioning of the OS.

“If there is some real capability then we will be very much interested in developing that area because that will create an alternative to iOS and Android which then an Indian brand can grow,” the news agency quoted Chandrasekhar as saying.

OnePlus has recently launched its new flagship phone – the OnePlus 10 Pro – in China. The smartphone encapsulates everything that the tech major has to offer in the premium smartphone market. However, it appears that OnePlus will try to outdo itself by releasing a more powerful version of the OnePlus 10 Pro with the ‘Ultra’ tag.

In the post, he stated, “Technology sharing between OnePlus & Oppo is in Full swing, Find X5 series gets Hasselblad treatment and I’m hearing that MariSilicon will be seen on a OnePlus Flagship in the 2nd Half of this year. There are rumours of an Ultra flagship from OnePlus in the EVT phase right now.”

OnePlus 10 Ultra details

As per tipster Yogesh Brar, OnePlus is possibly working on a smartphone called the OnePlus 10 Ultra that will use technology developed by Oppo. He talks about the partnership between Oppo and OnePlus has led to technology sharing between the two Chinese tech companies.

Brar mentions that a OnePlus flagship smartphone could use Oppo’s MariSilicon X NPU to improve its performance in both photos and videos. The OnePlus flagship smartphone could get Oppo’s inhouse NPU sometime in the second half of 2022. Oppo came out with its self-produced image chipset for the first time in December last year. We can now expect to see the technology on both premium phones from both Oppo and OnePlus.

Oppo, in exchange for the MariSilicon X NPU, will be taking OnePlus’ Hasselblad treatment for smartphone cameras. The Chinese smartphone maker will then apply the same on its Oppo Find X5, that is set to launch later this year.

As per the information, the OnePlus 10 Ultra could be announced in the second half of 2022. Apple captures 23% market in China in 2021 Q4, here is what helped the company to beat vivo

0
apple-face-id-unlock

A mix of its pricing strategy and gain from Huawei’s premium base have collectively helped Apple to become number one brand in China in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2021. With 23% market share, Apple has now surpassed vivo for the first time since Q4 2015, according to Counterpoint Research’s Monthly Market Pulse Service. Researchers believe that Apple’s success in the premium segment is an encouraging sign and will continue to motivate Chinese Original equipment manufacturer (OEMs) to strengthen their footprints in the segment. The report also indicates that realme was the fastest growing brand (83% YoY) in Q4 2021. While, four out of five smartphones sold in China in Q4 2021 were 5G capable.

The report also claims that overall smartphone sales in China has noted a decline in Q4. The country’s smartphone sales declined 2% QoQ and 9% YoY, respectively and full-year smartphone sales too continued the downward trend for the fourth consecutive year, declining 2% YoY in 2021.
Commenting on the overall Chinese smartphone market, Senior Analyst Ivan Lam said, “The market in China continues to decline due to various factors in both the supply side and the demand side. Firstly, the ongoing component shortages are impacting shipments of all OEM). Secondly, China’s average smartphone replacement cycle is becoming longer. Smartphone designs within brands have also become more homogeneous, especially in hardware, failing to motivate consumers to upgrade. Lastly, China has been experiencing a complex economic environment where exports are driving the growth and domestic spending remains lackluster.”

However, in terms of OEMs, the competition has intensified after Huawei’s decline and the market dynamics are changing rapidly. OPPO was the top OEM in Q1 2021, followed by vivo in Q2 and Q3 and now Apple in Q4.

“Apple’s stellar performance was driven by a mix of its pricing strategy and gain from Huawei’s premium base. Apple rose to first place in China right after the iPhone 13 was released (week 39) in September. Afterwards, it remained in the leading position for most of the fourth quarter. The new iPhone 13 has led the success due to a relatively lower starting price at its release in China, as well as the new camera and 5G features.

Furthermore, Huawei, Apple’s main competitor in the premium market, faced declining sales due to the ongoing US sanctions,” said Mengmeng Zhang, Research Analyst.

vivo and OPPO took the second and third spots respectively, driven by their strong offline penetration and expansive product portfolio strategy. vivo’s performance was driven by the X70 series and S series, and OPPO took off with the Reno 7 series. HONOR also started rebounding in the second half of 2021 after restoring relationships with suppliers. It captured the fourth spot in Q4 2021. Facing more severe component shortages, slower penetration in offline channels as well as competition from HONOR, Xiaomi ranked fifth during the quarter.

The year gone by also proved to be a milestone in terms of Chinese OEMs embracing advanced technology. vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi all launched self-developed chipsets to showcase their investments in semiconductors. OPPO and HONOR also launched foldable flagship models, with more mature designs and highly customized software, especially for Chinese users. Foldables bring a new form factor to the smartphone design. As foldables become more affordable, they are likely to drive some users to upgrade.
