Apple has reportedly agreed to pay double the previous price for LPDDR5X memory chips supplied by Samsung Electronics. The tipoff comes from a Korean publication named Dealsite based on industry sources.

The report claims Apple recently held urgent discussions with Samsung’s semiconductor division to finalise RAM delivery volumes for the first half of the year. Samsung had initially been expected to push for a 60% price hike on the LPDDR5X chips supplied to Apple. However, the Korean company instead began negotiations with a 100% markup as a strategy and interestingly, Apple is said to have agreed to the revised pricing immediately.

The 12GB LPDDR5X memory modules used in the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro models have already seen a sharp price jump since early 2025, climbing from roughly $30 to around $70 per unit.

Let’s start by believing there is some truth to this report. And if that is the case, this swift acceptance underscores how aggressively smartphone manufacturers are trying to secure memory supplies.

Major chipmakers such as SK Hynix and Micron Technology have increasingly shifted production capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers. As a result, mobile DRAM supply has tightened significantly.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has already acknowledged during a recent earnings call that higher chip prices would have “a bit more of an impact” on gross margins. As for a possible iPhone price hike, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently indicated that Apple currently plans to maintain the starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro despite mounting component costs. Even so, the company expects year-on-year revenue growth in the range of 13% to 16% for the current quarter.

The supply strain is also affecting Samsung’s own smartphone operations.

The report notes that early production of the Galaxy S26 relies on an even 50/50 split of LPDDR5X memory sourced from Samsung’s semiconductor arm and Micron. Both suppliers are reportedly planning substantial price increases after the initial production batch. This is why Samsung is expected to raise Galaxy S26 prices, while using the in-house Exynos 2600 processor for almost 30% of units.

FAQs

Q1. What price change did Apple reportedly accept for Samsung’s LPDDR5X memory chips?

Answer. Apple is said to have agreed to a 100% price increase, with 12GB modules rising from about $30 to around $70 per unit.

Q2. Why are memory prices rising so sharply?

Answer. Major chipmakers like SK Hynix and Micron have shifted production toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI servers, tightening mobile DRAM supply and driving up costs.

Q3. Will Apple and Samsung raise smartphone prices due to higher memory costs?

Answer. Apple reportedly plans to keep the iPhone 18 Pro’s starting price unchanged, while Samsung is expected to raise Galaxy S26 prices because of similar supply pressures.

Instagram to Alert Parents If Teens Repeatedly Search for Self-Harm or Suicide Content

Highlights

  • Instagram to alert parents if their teen repeatedly searches for self-harm or related content.
  • The alerts will be delivered via email, text, WhatsApp, and in-app notifications, explaining the search activity.
  • The feature launches next week in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, with global expansion planned later this year.

Instagram has announced a new safety feature that will notify parents if their teenage child repeatedly searches for content related to self-harm or suicide on the platform. The move marks the latest addition to Instagram’s Teen Accounts protections and parental supervision tools.

The update comes shortly after Mark Zuckerberg testified in court over allegations that Instagram content contributed to instances of self-harm among children.

In a Newsroom post, the platform said, “We understand how sensitive these issues are, and how distressing it could be for a parent to receive an alert like this. The vast majority of teens do not try to search for suicide and self-harm content on Instagram, and when they do, our policy is to block these searches, instead directing them to resources and helplines that can offer support. These alerts are designed to make sure parents are aware if their teen is repeatedly trying to search for this content, and to give them the resources they need to support their teen.”

How Instagram’s New Alerts Will Work?

image

How will alerts work? (Image credit – Instagram)

Starting next week, both parents and teens enrolled in Instagram’s supervision programme will receive notifications informing them that the platform will begin sending alerts to parents based on teens’ search activity.

Search attempts that may trigger an alert include phrases promoting suicide or self-harm, terms suggesting a teen wants to harm themselves, and keywords such as “suicide” or “self-harm.”

Notifications will be delivered to parents through email, text message, or WhatsApp, depending on the contact details provided, along with an in-app alert. When parents tap on the notification, they will see a full-screen message explaining that their teen has repeatedly attempted to search for terms associated with suicide or self-harm within a short timeframe. The alert will also provide access to expert-backed resources to help parents navigate sensitive discussions with their child.

How will parents receive the alerts from Instagram? (Image credit – Instagram)

Initially, the feature will roll out next week to parents using Instagram’s parental supervision tools in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. The company confirmed that additional regions will gain access later this year.

Balancing Safety and Accuracy

Instagram acknowledged that sending alerts too frequently could reduce their effectiveness. To ensure a balanced approach, the company analysed search patterns on the platform and consulted with specialists from its Suicide and Self-Harm Advisory Group.

Instagram said, “We chose a threshold that requires a few searches within a short period of time, while still erring on the side of caution. While that means we may sometimes notify parents when there may not be real cause for concern, we feel — and experts agree — that this is the right starting point, and we’ll continue to monitor and listen to feedback to make sure we’re in the right place.”

Experts in child safety have welcomed the move. When a young person searches about suicide or self-harm, empowering a parent to step in can be extremely important. The fact that Meta has now built this in is a meaningful step forward and is the kind of change that child safety experts have been pushing for,” said Dr Sameer Hinduja, Co-Director of the Cyberbullying Research Center.

“It’s vital that parents have the information they need to support their teens. This is a really important step that should help give parents greater peace of mind – if their teen is actively trying to look for this type of harmful content on Instagram, they’ll know about it,” added Vicki Shotbolt, CEO Parent Zone.

Earlier this month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified at a landmark trial of social media companies. Appearing in court, the CEO wished the company had acted sooner in identifying underage users. “I always wish that we could have gotten there sooner… “I think a reasonable company should try to help the people that use its services,” Zuckerberg said.

FAQs

Q1. What is Instagram’s new safety feature for teens?

Answer. Instagram will now alert parents if their teenage child repeatedly searches for self-harm or suicide-related content. The alerts are part of its expanded parental supervision tools.

Q2. How will parents receive these alerts from Instagram?

Answer. Notifications will be sent via email, text message, WhatsApp, and in-app alerts. Parents will see a full-screen message explaining the search activity and will be provided with expert-backed resources to support their teen.

Q3. Where and when will the new Instagram Teen Safety Alert feature be available?

Answer. The rollout begins next week in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, with plans to expand to additional regions later this year.

It appears Indian Apple users might soon get access to Apple Pay in India after all. Apple is reportedly in advanced discussions with leading Indian banks as it gears up to launch Apple Pay in India by mid-2026, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Multiple media reports have stated that Apple is currently in talks with major financial institutions including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank to bring its digital payments platform to the Indian market.

This is not the first time we have received such reports. The current update aligns with a previous Business Standard report that suggested that Apple Pay was preparing for an India launch before the end of the year. That’s not all. Earlier coverage by The Times of India also highlighted Apple’s plans to introduce the service in the country.

In addition to partnering with local banks, Apple is said to be working closely with global payment networks Mastercard and Visa to finalise its rollout strategy.

Digital payments in India are currently dominated by the government-backed Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Apple Pay is expected to integrate support for UPI. This would allow users to transfer money instantly and pay bills using the widely adopted system.

Apple Pay was first introduced more than a decade ago and is now available in 89 markets worldwide. A key regulatory change in India could also support its expansion. Late last year, the country’s central bank approved updated guidelines allowing biometric authentication methods such as Touch ID and Face ID for digital transactions. Previously, digital payments in India primarily relied on one-time passwords (OTPs) sent via SMS.

The potential launch comes at a time of strong momentum for Apple in India. According to data from International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple recorded its highest-ever quarterly shipments in the country during Q3 2025, reaching 5 million units and securing fourth position in the Indian smartphone market for the first time.

FAQs

Q1. When is Apple Pay expected to launch in India?

Answer. Reports suggest Apple is in advanced talks with banks and aims to launch Apple Pay in India by mid‑2026.

Q2. Which banks and payment networks is Apple partnering with?

Answer. Apple is reportedly working with ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, and global networks Visa and Mastercard to finalise its rollout strategy.

Q3. Will Apple Pay support UPI in India?

Answer. Yes, Apple Pay is expected to integrate UPI support, enabling instant money transfers and bill payments through India’s widely adopted digital payments system.

Apple has announced the global rollout of new age-verification tools across its platforms. It  is aimed at helping developers comply with a growing number of child safety regulations worldwide. The update also introduces enhancements to the Declared Age Range API, which is now available in beta testing.

The upgraded API enables apps to identify a user’s age category and receive signals about how age assurance has been verified.

“Today we’re providing an update on the tools available for developers to meet their age assurance obligations under upcoming U.S. and regional laws, including in Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Utah, and Louisiana. Updates to the Declared Age Range API are now available in beta for testing,” said Apple.

Regional Requirements for Age Verification

Under the new rules, beginning February 24, 2026, users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore will be prevented from downloading apps rated 18+ unless they are verified as adults. In Brazil specifically, developers who indicate through the age rating questionnaire that their app contains loot boxes will see their app’s age rating on the Brazil storefront automatically updated to 18+.

In the United States, similar regulations will apply in select states. The requirements will take effect in Utah starting May 6, 2026, and in Louisiana from July 1, 2026.

Developers operating in these states will be required to use Apple’s APIs to confirm users’ age categories and secure parental consent in certain situations before rolling out significant app updates.

Expanded Developer Toolkit

To support compliance with these evolving laws, Apple has introduced an expanded set of developer tools.

These include the Declared Age Range API for delivering age-related signals and managing parental permissions, the Significant Change API under PermissionKit, a new age rating property type within StoreKit, and App Store Server Notifications designed to help developers track compliance requirements more effectively.

“Developers can use the Declared Age Range API to present significant update notifications to adults in these states through the Significant Update Action, now in beta. When releasing a significant update, developers must follow the Human Interface Guidelines and provide users with a meaningful description of the update,” added Apple.

FAQs

Q1. What has Apple announced regarding age verification?

Answer. Apple has rolled out global age-verification tools and expanded the Declared Age Range API (in beta) to help developers comply with child safety regulations.

Q2. Which regions will require age verification for app downloads?

Answer. Starting Feb 24, 2026, users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore must verify age before downloading 18+ apps. In the US, rules apply in Utah (May 6, 2026) and Louisiana (July 1, 2026).

Apple iPhone Fold Moves Into Production, Crease Depth Tipped at Under 0.15mm

0

Highlights

  • Apple has reportedly moved its foldable iPhone into production as assembly lines receive official orders.
  • The 7.8‑inch inner display is tipped to have a crease depth under 0.15mm and an angle below 2.5.°
  • The phone is expected to adopt a book-style fold with a 7.8‑inch main screen and a 5.5‑inch cover display, dual rear cameras and an embedded selfie camera.

Apple has reportedly placed production line orders for its much-anticipated foldable iPhone. The development was shared on Weibo, claiming that assembly lines have recently received official orders from Apple. If true, this means the device is on track for launch later this year.

iPhone Fold Latest Leak

According to the leak by a Chinese Weibo tipster named “Fixed Focus Digital”, the production process has revealed specific details about the crease performance of the device’s 7.8-inch inner display. The crease depth is said to be controlled at under 0.15 mm.

image

Recent Weibo post about iPhone Fold. (Translated via Google Translate)

Crease depth refers to how deep the visible groove or indentation at the fold appears. A smaller measurement means the fold line is shallower and less noticeable, both visually and when touched.

In addition, the crease angle is reportedly kept below 2.5 degrees. The crease angle measures how sharp the fold line looks when the display is fully unfolded, calculated by the angle formed at the crease area. A lower angle suggests a smoother and flatter transition across the folding section, rather than a pronounced ridge or valley.

iPhone Fold – What Else We Know?

image

However, Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to feature a new display panel developed by Samsung Electronics that has reportedly never been used in a foldable device before. The panel has been described as being “virtually crease free” and even having “no crease at all.”

Separately, Chinese publication UDN previously reported that Apple had solved “the crease problem” that has affected many foldable smartphones so far. This means that the upcoming foldable iPhone could become the first truly crease-free foldable device on the market.

Reports indicate that the foldable iPhone will include a 7.8-inch primary display when unfolded, along with a 5.5-inch cover display on the outside. The device is expected to adopt a book-style folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, rather than a clamshell-style form factor.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that Apple’s first foldable iPhone may feature two rear cameras, a single front-facing camera, and an additional selfie camera embedded within the inner display. The device is also expected to integrate Touch ID into the power button. In terms of dimensions, it could measure just 4.5mm thick when unfolded and between 9mm and 9.5mm when folded shut.

Apple is anticipated to unveil the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in September.

FAQs

Q1. Has Apple started production of its foldable iPhone?

Answer. Yes, reports suggest Apple has placed official production line orders, indicating the iPhone Fold is on track for launch later this year.

Q2. What makes the iPhone Fold’s display unique compared to other foldables?

Answer. The 7.8‑inch inner display reportedly has a crease depth under 0.15mm and an angle below 2.5°, with Samsung-developed panels described as “virtually crease-free.”

Q3. What design and features are expected in the iPhone Fold?

Answer. It is tipped to adopt a book-style fold with a 7.8‑inch main screen, 5.5‑inch cover display, dual rear cameras, embedded selfie camera, Touch ID in the power button, and ultra-thin dimensions (4.5mm unfolded, about 9mm folded).

Samsung has officially introduced its latest flagship smartphones under the Samsung Galaxy S series, announcing the all-new Samsung Galaxy S26, Samsung Galaxy S26+ and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. While the overall design language remains familiar from last year’s Samsung Galaxy S25 series, the new generation brings substantial internal upgrades and AI-driven enhancements focused on improving everyday usability.

“We believe AI should be something people can depend on every day, designed to work consistently for everyone and without the need for expertise,” said TM Roh, Chief Executive Officer, President, and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics. “With the Galaxy S26 series, we focused on making AI feel effortless, working quietly in the background so people can focus on what matters.”

Here’s everything you should know about the new Samsung flagship series.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

image

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra leads the lineup with top-tier specifications.

It sports a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Powering the device is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, which delivers up to 19% CPU, 39% NPU, and 24% GPU performance improvements compared to its predecessor. A newly redesigned vapour chamber and enhanced thermal interface placement ensure better heat dissipation during gaming, multitasking, and extended video recording sessions.

One of the standout features is the integrated Privacy Display, a hardware-level solution that keeps on-screen content clearly visible to the user while limiting visibility from side angles. Unlike traditional privacy screen protectors, this feature is built directly into the display.

It functions in both portrait and landscape orientations and can automatically activate when entering PINs, passwords, or launching selected apps. The phone also supports Partial Screen Privacy for protecting notification previews and a Maximum Privacy Protection mode for stronger side-angle shielding.

The quad-camera setup includes:

  • 200MP primary wide camera with 2x optical quality zoom
  • 50MP ultra-wide lens
  • 50MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom (10x optical quality zoom)
  • 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom

For selfies and video calls, there is a 12MP front camera. New features such as Enhanced Nightography Video and an improved Super Steady mode with horizontal lock aim to deliver clearer and more stable footage, even in low light and high-motion environments.

The battery capacity remains at 5,000mAh, but wired charging has been upgraded to 60W with Samsung claiming up to 75% charge in about 30 minutes using a compatible adapter. The device also supports wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare.

Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth 6.0. The handset retains its IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is available in three memory variants –

  • 12GB + 256GB
  • 12GB + 512GB
  • 16GB + 1TB

Samsung Galaxy S26 and Samsung Galaxy S26+

In most global markets, both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. However, they will be available with the Exynos 2600 variant in India.

Both models include a triple-camera system, which includes –

  • 50MP wide lens with 2x optical quality zoom
  • 12MP ultra-wide
  • 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom
  • 12MP front camera

Storage configurations include 12GB RAM paired with either 256GB or 512GB internal storage.

  • Galaxy S26+ packs a slightly larger 4,900mAh battery that supports up to 45W wired charging

Meanwhile, both devices support Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, Wireless PowerShare, and carry an IP68 rating.

All three smartphones run One UI 8.5 based on Android 16 and are promised seven years of OS upgrades and security updates.

The Nothing Phone (4a) series is expected to debut with upgraded hardware and refined aesthetics at the company’s launch event scheduled for the first week of March. Ahead of the launch, Nothing has officially unveiled the Pink colour option for the upcoming Nothing Phone (4a). The new finish expands the lineup beyond the previously teased White variant and introduces a fresh design direction for the brand.

Along with revealing the new colourway, Nothing has also confirmed key design elements, possible chipset and India availability details. Here’s everything we know so far.

The Nothing Phone (4a) will launch in a Pink colour option alongside the White variant. This marks the first time the company has introduced a pink finish across its smartphone portfolio. The UK-based OEM teased the new colour variant via social media posts and a YouTube video. The new colour reflects a more expressive design philosophy inspired by art, fashion, and pop culture.

Discussing the inspiration behind pink, Lucy Birley, Colour Material Finish Design Lead at Nothing, said, “There’s a lot of amazing old tech references that we go back to very often. Pink is actually just desaturated red, and when we put the tint inside the transparency, because of how the light interacts with the resin underneath, you get this incredible sense of depth, which makes our products look really lively, and we do have all of this detail under the transparency, so it’s really nice to celebrate that.”

The device retains Nothing’s signature transparent rear panel and distinctive Glyph lighting interface. The company has confirmed that the updated Glyph system includes six white LEDs positioned vertically on the right side of the camera module. Additionally, a red LED light will serve as a recording indicator.

The Glyph interface will support multiple notification patterns including dolphin and wings effects, along with other custom lighting options. The hourglass effect, previously seen on the Nothing Phone (3), will also be available despite the single-column LED layout.

Other supported features include Glyph progress, camera timer countdown, and camera shutter lighting cues.

Additionally, the Nothing Store in Bengaluru has received a pink graffiti window takeover as part of the campaign.

The Nothing Phone (4a) launch event is scheduled for March 5 at 10:30 AM GMT (4 PM IST). The company will be live streaming the event from Central Saint Martins in London.
