The brand’s last release was just a few months ago and we are hearing hints of another mid-range handset already.

According to a recent leak shared by reliable source @smashx_60 HMD Meme’s on X (previously Twitter), HMD is working on a new mid-range phone called the “Sage.”

Renders reveal a polycarbonate frame with a matte finish in rumoured colour options of green, blue and red.

HMD Sage – Specs (Expected)

The HMD Sage is expected to sport a 6.55-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother visuals

It will most likely powered by Unisoc’s T760 processor, the same chipset used in HMD’s recent Crest Max model. Details on the device’s RAM and storage are still unknown.

For cameras, leaks suggest a straightforward setup with dual 50-megapixel sensors on the back.

Additional features reportedly include an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance, a headphone jack, and NFC for contactless payments.

When you open a saved Moment, it will take you straight to that scene in the show or movie.

Explaining how many Moments can be saved, Netflix spokesperson Dorian Rosenburg told The Verge:

“The number of Moments you can save depends on the length of the content. However, there’s plenty of space to save your favourite Moments, so most members won’t need to worry about a limit when it comes to saving across multiple shows and movies.”

Currently, Moments is exclusive to mobile and available now on iOS with Android support coming in the next few weeks.

Apple Intelligence – Availability

Apple Intelligence set to launch in the EU for iPhone and iPad early next year

Apple Intelligence currently only works in US English.

According to Apple, language support will be expanded to English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK with iOS 18.2. Currently in beta, iOS 18.2 is expected to roll out sometime in coming December.

Apple Intelligence in future will also work in other languages such as Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese and more. As per Apple, additional language support will come later with a free software update.

“Apple Intelligence is quickly adding support for more languages. In December, Apple Intelligence will be available for localized English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K., and in April, a software update will deliver expanded language support, with more coming throughout the year. Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages will be supported,” Apple mentions in a Press Note.

Moreover, Apple Intelligence features are currently not available for users located in the European Union. This is because of the concerns attached to the EU’s Digital Markets Act antitrust legislation.

However, Apple’s European website has now confirmed that Apple Intelligence features will be available in the EU by April 2025.

To enable Apple Intelligence, go to Settings -> Apple Intelligence & Siri and toggle on Apple Intelligence to enable.

Instagram Reduced Video Quality of Unpopular Videos, Mosseri Confirms

0

Highlights

  • Adam Mosseri confirmed that Instagram videos’ quality depends on their popularity.
  • More popular videos are shown in higher quality.
  • Mosseri clarified that the quality adjustment happens on an aggregate level.
  • It doesn’t affect individual user video quality directly.

Did you know the quality of Instagram videos depends on their popularity and reach? Well, as per top Meta executives, it does.

Adam Mosseri, the Meta executive who leads Instagram and Threads, in a video via The Verge recently revealed that how popular the Instagram video is can change the video quality. According to Mosseri, more popular videos get shown in higher quality, while videos with fewer views and reach get reduced to a lower quality.

Mosseri can be seen saying, “the highest-quality video that we can,” but he said, “if something isn’t watched for a long time — because the vast majority of views are in the beginning — we will move to a lower quality video.”

This information, however, shouldn’t sound new to anyone who has been keeping track of the tech world, particularly paying attention to how Meta functions.

Meta last year mentioned details of using different encoding configurations for different videos based on which video gets more popular

The internet, however, was not amused after the recent confirmation by Mosseri.

When a user shared Mosseri’s video on Threads, many comments questioned and criticised Meta’s approach. One user even described this practice of reducing video quality based on popularity as “truly insane.”

As Mosseri’s video started a proper discussion online tech community, the man has to come forward with more explanation.

Mosseri later clarified decisions on such matters always happen on an “aggregate level, not an individual level.” What he basically meant was how this approach in no way affects or decides the quality of videos an individual Instagram user will get based on their viewer engagement.

“We bias to higher quality (more CPU intensive encoding and more expensive storage for bigger files) for creators who drive more views,” Mosseri added.

“It’s not a binary [threshold], but rather a sliding scale,” he further clarified.

Many users also pointed out that the practice of benefiting popular videos creates a system which only benefits popular Instagram creators. Small creators are very much at a disadvantage with this approach.

This will only benefit influencers with a massive following on the platform and creators who manage to get their videos viral. The chance of small creators to break through this system is close to zero.

Mosseri agreed with the criticism and said it’s “the right concern,” but he also stated, “In practice, it doesn’t seem to matter much, as the quality shift isn’t huge and [whether] or not people interact with videos is way more based on the content of the video than the quality.”

He also clarified that the video quality turns out “to be much more important to the original creator.”

FAQs

Q1. Does Instagram reduce the video quality?

Answer. Adam Mosseri revealed that more popular videos get shown in higher quality, while videos with fewer views and reach get reduced to a lower quality.

Q2. What concern do critics have about Instagram’s video quality approach?

Answer. Critics argue that the practice of benefiting popular videos creates a system which only benefits popular Instagram creators, disadvantaging smaller creators.

Apple released the last iPhone SE model in early 2022 and since then we have been constantly hearing about the next model.

Last week, the famous Japanese blog Macotakara known for revealing dummy unit images of upcoming iPhones released a set of new images of iPhone SE 4 dummy units.

According to more latest reports, the next iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch sometime in 2025 while the mass production will begin in December this year.

Previous rumours suggested that the low-cost iPhone is expected to offer some major upgrades on the current iPhone SE 3.

However, there weren’t any concrete details about the iPhone SE 4 from any reliable sources.

This now changes since one of the trusted leakers on X (earlier Twitter) leaked almost the entire spec sheet of the upcoming iPhone SE 4, leaving online Apple fans in a frenzy.

According to tipster Jukanlosreve, the iPhone SE 4 is now confirmed to arrive sometime in March 2025 with a price tag higher than the current model.

According to the latest leak, Apple’s upcoming low-cost smartphone iPhone SE 4  will feature a 6.06-inch OLED screen. This is significantly larger than the 4.7-inch display of the current SE 3.

The phone will come with a notch at the top for Face ID and the front camera. The refresh rate, however, remains at 60Hz.

Powering the new SE will be Apple’s A18 chip, the same processor used in the base and Plus versions of the iPhone 16. This will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

This memory is a massive upgrade compared to the 4GB RAM of SE 3. Moreover, it will also enable the SE 4 to support Apple Intelligence features, which need at least 8GB RAM as configuration criteria.

Jukanlosreve’s post also revealed that the iPhone SE 4 will debut Apple’s first in-house modem, code-named Centauri, manufactured by TSMC.

This shows a shift away from third-party modems and could improve connectivity and efficiency.

For photography, the SE 4 will keep a single-camera setup.

It’s most likely getting a major bump in quality upgrading from a 12MP to a 48MP sensor for sharper photos. The front camera, on the other hand, will remain at 12MP.

The phone is expected to pack a larger 3279mAh battery, a significant increase from the 2,018mAh capacity of SE 3.

It will come with 20W fast charging but will also support MagSafe accessories for added convenience.

iPhone SE 4 – Expected Launch and Pricing

The iPhone SE 4, with its notable upgrades, is set to be a top pick for budget-conscious users seeking high performance.

As mentioned previously, the latest leak suggests that the iPhone SE 4 is likely to launch in March 2025 with a price rise.

The starting price could rise from $429 to $499 or even $549. Apple remains cautious not to raise the price and maintain it as the affordable iPhone in the market.
