Just days after making an enhanced version of GPT-4 Turbo available via its API, OpenAI has now rolled out this artificial intelligence model upgrade to its wildly popular ChatGPT chatbot.
From Thursday, all ChatGPT Plus, Team and Enterprise plan subscribers can access the latest iteration of GPT-4 Turbo.
This improved AI is touted as providing better day-to-day performance across writing tasks, math, logical reasoning and coding compared to previous versions.
According to OpenAI’s own benchmark testing, the new 2024 release of GPT-4 Turbo outperforms the January 2024 version on several metrics used to evaluate the proficiency of AI language models.
These include the MMLU test for understanding multi-task language, the MATH dataset for measuring math problem-solving ability, and the GPQA for assessing advanced question-answering skills, as illustrated in OpenAI’s chart.

The company shared an example where the new model gave a much more human-sounding response to a simple prompt about sending an SMS reminder, avoiding overly wordy or unnatural phrasing.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described the latest GPT-4 Turbo as not only “significantly smarter” but also “more pleasant to use” within ChatGPT’s interface.
