Sony is currently working on a new feature for the PlayStation 5: easily inviting your friends and other players to a multiplayer game session.
Over the next months, PS5 owners will have the ability to generate shareable links to quickly jump into active multiplayer sessions without the need to become friends and share usernames.
The new invitations system will roll out to everyone on PS5, with users able to create a link or a QR code from within the multiplayer lobby of a game that they’re in.
And that link will allow people to join your session with just one click.
This feature will be accessible not only on the PS5 console itself but also with the PlayStation App on smartphones.
For console invites, players will be required to share a QR code that they can generate from within their game lobby, where other players will scan the player with their mobile device, or the PlayStation App will provide a shareable link that can be copied or shared through the native sharing abilities of their phone.
Sony’s not stopping at just the multiplayer invite links.
They are also making PlayStation Profiles shareable using links.
This feature allows users to create links with which their profiles can be shared using PlayStation App, PS5 console, or the web-based profile on PlayStation.com.
This feature will improve the ease of creating connections and sharing profiles with the PlayStation community.
What is more, it has been announced that Sony is going to add a new live multiplayer widget for Discord.
It will be status-enabled and show progress for what the players are doing in their active multiplayer sessions, so users will know what’s going on with all the gaming activity on their Discord servers.
And a multiplayer invite feature is on the way soon, Sony clarified in a statement, pointing out that “a small percentage of PS5 games may require updates to be shareable link compatible.”
As the PS5 matures, Sony has kept up the improvement of quality of life and expanded social features to boost the overall multiplayer experience.
It hopes that the more simplicity it adds to the process of joining multiplayer sessions across platforms, the simpler it would be for its user base to be granted an enriched, connected gaming environment.
PS5 users can generate a link or QR code within their game’s multiplayer lobby, allowing others to join their session directly with a simple click, enhancing the ease of joining games.
Invites can be shared as links or QR codes that can be accessed through the PlayStation App or directly on the console, facilitating seamless entry into game sessions.
Yes, users can now create shareable links for their PlayStation profiles, which can be used on the PlayStation App, through the console, or on PlayStation.com, making it easier to connect with the community.
The Discord integration features a live multiplayer widget that displays what players are doing in their game sessions, helping friends keep track of each other’s activities and join games more easily.
Most PS5 games will support the new feature, although a small percentage may require updates to be fully compatible with the shareable link functionality.
