Point Table in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers : From Group Stage To “Round Of 16” Stage

The entire world is sticking to their entertainment devices to watch the “Winter World Cup ” in Qatar. All the groups maintained an astonishing point table. We have got 8 groups that have 4 countries in each group that have qualified for FIFA criteria. These 8 Groups starting from Group A and going all the way to Group H, first had the inter-group matches that hooked the viewers to till the qualifiers rounds.

Moving toward the qualifiers table, it becomes crucial for us to know how the selection process works and the name of the countries in all 8 groups

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands

Group B: England, Iran, USA, Wales

Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland

Group D: France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia

Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan

Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia

Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon

Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, Korea Republic

Working of the point Table

During the inter-group matches, FIFA follows the elimination method and moves to the “Round of 16”. Also known as the Round-robin group stage, the very initial stage, where the points decide the position of each team in every group. A team gains 3 points on triumphing in the match victory. Following, 1 point is awarded to each team in the case of a Tie, and no points on losing the match. After all the matches of the group stage, the top two teams belonging to each group are escalated to the knock-out round also called the “Round of 16”.

In FIFA World Cup 2022 the teams that qualified for the knock-out stage are as follows:

Netherlands and Senegal from Group A with 7 and 6 points respectively.

England and USA from Group B with 7 and 5 points respectively.

Argentina and Poland from Group C with 6 and 4 points respectively.

France and Australia from Group D with 6 and 6 points respectively.

Japan and Spain from Group E with 6 and 4 points respectively.

Morocco and Croatia from Group F with 7 and 5 points respectively.

Brazil and Switzerland from Group G with 6 and 6 points respectively.

Portugal and Korea Republic from Group H with 6 and 4 points respectively.

After the group stage, the match moves away from the points system and falls to the knockout rounds to get the teams for the quarter-finals. The Knockout stage states that in the case of a Tie after the full-time and two extra 15 minutes. Penalty kicks decide the winner of that match.

With the Round of 16 coming to an end on 6th December, Tuesday we will see the 8 teams advancing to the Quater-finals. Till that the qualifier board has already advanced the following 6 teams to the semi-finals:

The Netherlands scored 3 goals against 1 goal by the USA.

Argentina scored  2 goals against 1 goal from Australia.

Croatia scored  3 penalties against Japan.

Brazil scored 4 goals against 1 goal from South Korea

England scored 3 goals against 0 goals by Senegal.

France scored 3 goals against 1 goal from Poland.

Conclusion

There are some matches yet to unfold and some history is waiting to happen, players are ready with their set of skills to put their A-game forward. Till now World Cup 2022 has kept us utterly hooked. Let’s wait for the finals to blow our minds.
