A fresh leak has reportedly revealed the design of the upcoming OPPO Reno 16 Pro and Reno 16 Pro Mini models for the Indian market. The leaked image is said to show an EVT prototype unit without official branding but it still provides an early look at the possible design direction OPPO could adopt for its Reno series this year. Here’s more on that.
Compared to the current Reno 15 Pro Mini, the upcoming Reno 16 lineup appears to feature a noticeably redesigned rear camera setup. According to the leaked image shared by tipster Debayan Roy @Gadgetsdata on X, the biggest visual change on the Reno 16 Pro series is the redesigned camera module.
The new design features a vertically aligned pill-shaped camera island housing two larger sensors, while a separate circular camera sensor and LED flash are positioned beside it. The layout gives the smartphone a more geometric and industrial appearance compared to the softer square-shaped module used on the Reno 15 Pro Mini.
The Reno 16 Pro and Reno 16 Pro Mini appear to adopt a design language closer to the OnePlus 15R with vertically stacked lenses and a side-mounted flash unit.
The leaked Reno 16 prototype is shown in a white finish that appears flatter and more subdued than the champagne-gold styling seen on the Reno 15 Pro Mini. However, additional colour variants and textured finishes are expected to be introduced later. The smartphone also appears to retain flat side rails suggesting that OPPO will continue its current hardware design language instead of returning to curved frames.
Since the leaked device is reportedly an engineering prototype, branding elements such as Hasselblad or OPPO logos are not visible. The tipster also claims that the final retail models could still undergo slight design changes before launch.
One of the notable hardware additions tipped for the Reno 16 series is the inclusion of a Plus Key. The feature is designed to trigger AI tools, camera functions, and shortcuts with a single press.
Separately, tipster Digital Chat Station has shared what appears to be a detailed hardware of the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro smartphones.
According to the leak, the OPPO Reno 16 Pro may feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K OLED flat display and could be powered by the Dimensity 9500s chipset. The device is also tipped to pack a large 7,000mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. OPPO is also expected to use a metal frame for the device.
For photography, the Reno 16 Pro could feature a 200-megapixel HP5 primary camera, accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera.
The standard OPPO Reno 16 is expected to follow a similar formula in a more compact body. The smartphone is tipped to feature a 6.32-inch 1.5K OLED flat display and may run on the Dimensity 8550 chipset. It could also include a 6,700mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging.
Interestingly, the vanilla Reno 16 is rumoured to use the same rear camera setup as the Pro model, including the 200-megapixel HP5 main sensor, 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens.
Both Reno 16 series smartphones are also expected to feature an “intelligent electronic screen.” According to the leak, this feature may support custom wallpapers and remote-control photography. While exact details remain unclear, the functionality suggests that OPPO could be experimenting with secondary display features or interactive software enhancements.
As per the latest reports, the OPPO Reno 16 lineup is expected to launch in India around July or August, while the China launch could happen in June.
Although OPPO has not officially confirmed the Reno 16 series yet, the company has reportedly started teasing the lineup and opened pre-orders in China.
If the timeline remains unchanged, the Reno 16 Pro series would arrive around six to seven months after the launch of the Reno 15 Pro Mini in India.
