In a recent Twitter post, Pei, known for his knack for stirring excitement, has fueled further speculation about the upcoming (rumoured) Nothing Phone 2a.
His cryptic post, featuring a silhouette that fans speculate is a nod to Aerodactyl, a Pokémon resembling a dragon, ties in with 2024 being the Chinese Year of the Dragon.
However, the significance of this Pokémon in relation to the phone remains a mystery, but it adds an exciting layer to the anticipation.
That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill with information swirling around the Nothing Phone 2a, a device expected to bring the unique design flair of its predecessors, the Nothing Phone 1 and 2, into a more budget-friendly package.
This new entrant is speculated to be priced at nearly half the cost of the Nothing Phone 2.
Tech analyst Roland Quandt hints at two variants: an 8GB RAM with 128GB storage option and a more upscale 12GB RAM with 256GB storage model.
The Nothing Phone 2a is rumoured to boast dual rear cameras, including a 50MP ISOCELL S5KGN9 primary sensor and a 50MP JN1 ultrawide sensor.
This camera setup, mirroring those found in flagship devices, can position the Phone 2a as a formidable player in the mid-range smartphone market.
Under the hood, leaks suggest the inclusion of a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, ensuring decently robust performance.
Regarding software, the Phone 2a is expected to ship with Nothing OS 2.5 based on Android 14, offering a slew of features over the Android 13-based OS 2.0.
While it’s unclear if the Phone 2a will inherit the exclusive features of the Phone 2, such as glyph progress or additional addressable LEDs, the fact that it’s part of the Nothing lineup promises a unique user experience.
The anticipation for the Nothing Phone 2a is high, and if it enters the US market under $400 as rumoured, it’s poised to be a game-changer.
Of course, Nothing will also likely announce the device for the Indian markets as well and it is rumoured to cost somewhere under Rs 25,000.
We will keep you updated as we learn more about this new intriguing offering from Nothing.
