Meta Makes It Easier to Find Your X Friends on Threads

0

Highlights

  • Meta introduces a beta feature on Threads to help users follow the same popular creators they follow on X.
  • Users can import their X data by downloading an archive from X.
  • While not yet widely available and slightly complex due to X’s API restrictions, this feature helps rebuild networks on Threads.

Meta is rolling out a new feature that helps users make the switch from X (formerly Twitter) to Threads a little smoother. As of now, the feature is available in beta and it lets you “follow the same popular creators you’re following on X.”

How to Bring Your X Data to Threads?

According to reports, Meta has shared step-by-step instructions for how to import your X data into Threads:

  • Open X and go to your profile
  • Tap Settings and privacy
  • Tap Your account
  • Select Download an archive of your data
  • Wait up to 3 days to get an email with your data
  • Once you receive it, download and unzip the file
  • Inside the Data folder, find the following.js file
  • Upload that file to Threads.net

It’s not the most seamless process, but with the current limitations on X’s API, this is likely the best workaround Meta could come up with. The feature isn’t available to everyone just yet, but you can check your Threads account on the web to see if it’s live for you.

One big issue with today’s scattered social media scene is having to rebuild your entire network on each new platform. While it would’ve been nice for Meta to launch this feature sooner, it’s definitely a welcome addition, even if it’s arriving a bit late.

FAQs

Q1. What does the new import feature on Threads do?

Answer. It allows users to follow the same popular creators they are following on X (formerly Twitter), making the switch to Threads smoother.

Q2. How can I bring my X data to Threads?

Answer. You need to download an archive of your data from X, extract the “following.js” file from the Data folder, and upload it to Threads.net.

Q3. Is the feature to import X data on Threads available to all users?

Answer. Not yet. The feature is in beta and isn’t widely available. You can check your Threads account on the web to see if it’s live for you.

WhatsApp Testing New Advanced Privacy Option for Chats

Highlights

  • WhatsApp is testing Advanced Chat Privacy for extra protection for sensitive conversations.
  • It will allow users to disable automatic media downloads, restrict chat exports and ensure Meta AI is disabled in those chats.
  • It’s designed for both one-on-one and group chats.
  • WhatsApp recently introduced an iPhone update, allowing users to set it as their default calling and messaging app on iOS 18.2 or later.

Meta is working on a new privacy feature for WhatsApp that brings “advanced privacy” controls to chats. This upcoming option is designed to give users extra protection for sensitive conversations. According to trusted WhatsApp Beta source WABetaInfo, the new feature is currently hidden in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS via TestFlight.

The feature is called Advanced Chat Privacy and it adds what the platform describes as a “new layer of privacy and security to chats,” making it tougher for others to share or access the content.

The WABetaInfo report reads, “This new feature is designed to give users greater control over their conversations by disabling automatic media downloads to the device gallery and restricting the ability to export entire chat histories outside the app in the future. This would add a new layer of privacy and security to chats, ensuring that sensitive content stays within the app and giving users greater confidence that their conversations won’t be easily shared or stored without their consent.”

image

Turning on this feature would mean –

  • Chats can’t be exported
  • Media won’t be saved automatically to the device’s photo gallery
  • Most importantly, Meta AI is completely disabled in those chats

It’s being developed for both one-on-one and group chats.

WhatsApp already offers disappearing messages, but this new feature is meant to give users even more control over private or sensitive topics.

Advanced privacy will be optional and can be enabled per chat. Once it’s turned on, everyone in the conversation will get a notification about it.

Just recently, WhatsApp also rolled out an update for iPhone users, allowing them to set WhatsApp as their default calling and messaging app, a feature available on iOS 18.2 or later. If you haven’t updated yet, head to the App Store to get the latest version of WhatsApp for free.

FAQs

Q1. What is the purpose of the Advanced Chat Privacy feature on WhatsApp?

Answer. The feature adds a new layer of privacy and security to chats by disabling automatic media downloads, restricting chat exports, and ensuring sensitive content remains within the app.

Q2. Is the Advanced Chat Privacy feature available for all chats?

Answer. Yes, it is being developed for both one-on-one and group chats. It is optional and can be enabled per chat, with notifications sent to all participants.

Q3. What happens when Advanced Chat Privacy is enabled?

Answer. Chats cannot be exported, media won’t be saved automatically to the device’s gallery, and Meta AI is completely disabled in those chats.

Vi is using something called Non-Standalone Architecture (NSA) to roll out its 5G. This means it’s building the new 5G network on top of its existing 4G infrastructure, which is a faster way to bring 5G to users while competing with other major providers.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s going on with the Vi 5G rollout, including the cities, recharge plans, and other key details.

Vi 5G Cities

Vi has officially confirmed that its 5G services are coming to:

  • Delhi

Vi 5G Recharge Plans

Vi’s 5G is available with select prepaid and postpaid plans.

  • Prepaid users can get 5G by recharging for Rs 299 or more.
  • Postpaid users can enjoy 5G on plans starting at Rs 451 and above.

According to reports, Vi offers unlimited 5G, but it comes with a 300GB limit per 28 days, after which speed restrictions might kick in.

Vi 5G in Cricket Stadiums

Vi is also bringing 5G to the cricket world. Its high-speed network is now available at 11 major stadiums across India, including those in:

  • Mumbai
  • Delhi
  • Bengaluru
  • Chennai
  • Kolkata
  • Hyderabad, and more.

Moreover, to make sure fans stay connected, Vi has deployed 9 Cell On Wheels (CoWs), boosted network capacity at 44 locations and added 53 new 5G sites.

There are no special plans required to access 5G inside the stadiums. If you’ve got a 5G-compatible smartphone and your Vi plan supports it, just turn on 5G in your settings and enjoy blazing-fast internet during the match.

Answer. Vi 5G services are available in Delhi, Bihar, Karnataka, Punjab, and Mumbai, expanding its coverage to five locations across India.

In a big move towards digital convenience and privacy, the Indian government has launched a new Aadhaar app that lets users digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details, so no more carrying around physical cards or submitting photocopies.

The app was launched by Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in New Delhi. Talking about the launch, the minister called it a step towards making Aadhaar verification “easier, faster, and more secure.”

In a video shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Vaishnaw said, “New Aadhaar App, Face ID authentication via mobile app. No physical card, no photocopies.”

Key Features of the New Aadhaar App

  • Face ID authentication for added security and a smoother verification process.
  • Users can scan a QR code to verify their Aadhaar, just like how you make a UPI payment.

With this new system, there’s no need to hand over printed Aadhaar copies at hotels, shops, airports, or anywhere else you need to verify your identity.

The app, currently in beta testing, has been built with privacy and security in mind. Aadhaar details shared through it can’t be edited, forged, or misused. Everything is done securely and only when you allow it.

Calling Aadhaar the “aadhaar” (foundation) of many government initiatives, the minister also talked about the importance of AI and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in India’s digital journey.

He encouraged stakeholders to share ideas on using AI with DPI to boost innovation while always keeping privacy at the core.

REDMAGIC has confirmed that the Red Magic 10 Air will launch in China on April 16 as part of its REDMAGIC 10 series. But ahead of the big day, the phone has already been listed on China’s TENAA certification site, revealing all its major specs. On top of that, REDMAGIC has also shared official images, showing off the phone’s design and colour options. So, let’s take a closer look at everything we know about the device so far.

Red Magic 10 Air – Design and Colours

image

Caption – Red Magic 10 Air colour variants. (Image credit – REDMAGIC)

The Red Magic 10 Air will come in three colour variants including Frost Blade White, Shadow Black, and Flame Orange. It has a full-screen display, made possible by an under-display selfie camera, and features gaming trigger buttons on the sides, which is perfect for mobile gamers.

Interestingly, REDMAGIC has gone for a centrifugal cooling fan this time, which could help make the device thinner while still keeping it cool during heavy gaming.

Red Magic 10 Air – Leaked Specs via TENAA

According to the TENAA listing, the Red Magic 10 Air will measure 164.3 x 76.6 x 7.85mm and weigh 205 grams. It will feature a 6.8-inch OLED display with a 1.5K resolution (2480 x 1116 pixels) and include an in-display fingerprint sensor.

image

Caption – Red Magic 10 Air also appeared on TENAA to reveal some of the key specs. (Image credit – REDMAGIC)

Other features include –

  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Rear cameras: Dual 50MP setup
  • Processor: 3GHz octa-core chip (likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3)
  • RAM options: 12GB / 16GB / 24GB
  • Storage options: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB
  • Battery: 5,860mAh rated (likely 6,000mAh typical)
  • Charging: 80W fast charging (as per 3C certification)
  • Extras: IR blaster

Looking at the specs and design, the Red Magic 10 Air seems like a slightly toned-down version of the Red Magic 9 Pro, which launched back in November 2023 and came with a larger 6,500mAh battery. That said, the 10 Air still packs some serious hardware, especially for gamers.

With launch day just around the corner, it won’t be long before we get the full official details.

Google Pixel 10 Series Price Leaks, Pixel 10 Pro Fold Expected To Be More Affordable

0

Highlights

  • Google plans to lower the Pixel Fold’s price to $1,500 by 2027.
  • The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to be launching at around $1,600 in 2028.
  • The Pixel a-series will stay at $499, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL will see a $100 price increase to $1,200.

image

There’s been some speculation that Google might drop the smaller “Pro” Pixel if sales aren’t strong, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. According to Android Headlines, which cites a source familiar with Google’s plans, the smaller Pixel Pro will stay in the lineup all the way through the Pixel 13 in 2028.

Google’s Pixel lineup is expected to stay consistent for the next few years, including the Pixel a-series, a base model, two Pro models and a foldable. This strategy will reportedly continue through at least 2028.

Pixel Fold to Drop in Price?

In a surprising move, the Pixel Fold is expected to get cheaper over time. While other foldable phones are getting more expensive, Google seems to be doing the opposite. The Pixel Fold is expected to drop to around $1,500 in 2027, and by 2028, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold could launch at about $1,600.

Just like in 2024 with the Pixel 9 series, the Pixel Fold is likely to launch alongside the flagship Pixel phones each August. That means we can expect four Pixel devices launching together every August, while the Pixel a-series will continue to arrive in the spring, just like it has since the Pixel 3a launched back in 2019.

The report also says the Pixel a-series will stay priced at $499 through the Pixel 12a in 2028. That’s good news, especially since the original Pixel 3a launched at $399. It helps keep the a-series clearly separated from the base Pixel models in terms of pricing, avoiding the overlap we’ve seen with phones like the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9a, which are very similar except for the price.

Lastly, the Pixel 10 Pro XL (not the regular Pro) is expected to get a $100 price bump, bringing it to $1,200. This move would create a more noticeable gap between the base model, the Pro, the XL and the Fold, giving each model a more distinct spot in the lineup.

FAQs

Q1. Will Google discontinue the smaller Pro Pixel model?

Answer. No, the smaller Pro Pixel model will remain part of the Pixel lineup through 2028, as confirmed by a source familiar with Google’s plans.

Q2. What is the expected pricing for the Pixel Fold in the coming years?

Answer. The Pixel Fold’s price is expected to drop to $1,500 by 2027, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is anticipated to launch at around $1,600 in 2028.

Q3. Will there be pricing changes for the Pixel lineup?

Answer. Yes, the Pixel a-series will stay priced at $499 through 2028, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL will see a $100 price increase, bringing its price to $1,200.

iPhone 17 Pro Models to Get Exclusive Dual-Camera Video Recording Feature

0

Highlights

  • The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will introduce a new Camera app feature.
  • It will allow simultaneous video recording from the front and rear cameras, which is ideal for creators.
  • The feature will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

image

There’s been a lot of talk about how Apple plans to boost the camera system on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Only to add on to all the speculations and rumours, a new leak from Jon Prosser reveals a new exclusive Camera app feature is on the way for this year’s Pro models. Here’s what we know.

Record With Both Cameras at Once on iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

In a recent YouTube video, Jon Prosser shared a preview of what iOS 19 might look like. But at the very end, he dropped a surprise hint of what’s coming in this next iPhone Pro lineup.

According to Prosser, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will get a new Camera app feature that lets you record video from both the front and rear cameras at the same time. The feature works kind of like a FaceTime layout where the main screen shows the rear camera view while a smaller window displays the front camera feed.

image

Caption – Jon Prosser’s Front Page Tech. (Image credit – FPT)

While third-party apps have allowed this kind of recording for a while, this will be the first time Apple adds it directly into the built-in Camera app. It’s especially useful for YouTubers, vloggers and content creators who want to capture both perspectives at once.

But there’s a catch!

This feature will only be available on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. That’s a bit of a letdown, considering third-party apps already offer it on older iPhones too.

It’s possible the feature relies on the new A19 Pro chip, which is expected to be exclusive to the Pro models. Or maybe Apple has added some extra touches that third-party apps haven’t managed yet. Then again, Apple might just be doing what it often does, giving Pro users a few more reasons to upgrade.

Check out Jon Prosser’s full video below –

FAQs

Q1. What is the new Camera app feature on the iPhone 17 Pro models?

Answer. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will allow simultaneous video recording from the front and rear cameras within the built-in Camera app, a first for Apple.

Q2. Why is  the dual-camera recording feature exclusive to iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max?

Answer. The feature likely relies on the new A19 Pro chip, which is exclusive to the Pro models. Apple might also use this as a way to incentivize upgrades.

Q3. Are third-party apps already offering dual-camera recording functionality for iPhones?

Answer. Yes, third-party apps have provided dual-camera video recording on older iPhones, but Apple is integrating the feature directly into its Camera app for the first time.

Instagram Is Finally Making an iPad App After 15 Years: Report

0

Highlights

  • Instagram is finally working on a dedicated app for iPads.
  • A dedicated app will help improve the currently poor user experience of the iPhone version on larger screens.
  • Meta’s efforts are also aimed at boosting Instagram’s growth amidst uncertainty surrounding TikTok.

image

Instagram has been around for a while, but it is surprising that we still don’t have a dedicated Instagram app for iPad. However, it looks like Meta is changing that. According to a new report from The Information, Instagram is finally developing a dedicated iPad app.

The report says, “Instagram is also working on a version of the Instagram app designed for iPads, the current employee said, which could further drive usage of Instagram. Currently, iPad users can download a version of the Instagram app designed for iPhones, which appears zoomed-in on iPads—not a good experience!”

As of now, iPad users are stuck using the iPhone version of the app, which doesn’t fit well on the larger screen and looks blown up and clunky. A proper iPad version would finally make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

The report also mentions that Meta is exploring different ways to boost Instagram’s growth, especially with all the uncertainty surrounding TikTok.

Over the years, Instagram has given several reasons for not making an iPad app. Back in 2021, Instagram head Adam Mosseri admitted that an iPad app “would be nice to do,” but explained it wasn’t a top priority because “there’s a lot to do and only so many people.”

Addressing the subject a year later, Mosseri added, “It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re very heads down on other things. I call these ‘finally features.’ Things like supporting dark mode, scheduled posts, an iPad app, deleting one photo from a carousel, etc.”

At the moment, there’s no clear timeline for when the iPad app will actually launch and there’s always the chance it might get dropped altogether. Still, the fact that it’s finally in the works is big news for iPad users, even if many feel it should’ve happened long ago.

FAQs

Q1. Is Instagram making a dedicated iPad app?

Answer. Yes, Instagram is finally developing a dedicated app for iPads to enhance the currently poor user experience caused by the zoomed-in iPhone version.

Q2. Why hasn’t Instagram had an iPad app before?

Answer. Instagram previously deprioritized an iPad app due to resource constraints and a smaller user base, focusing instead on features like dark mode and scheduled posts.

Q3. When will the Instagram iPad app launch?

Answer. There is no clear timeline for the launch of the iPad app, and there is always the possibility that it might be delayed or dropped altogether.
