WhatsApp is reportedly working on new AI-powered writing tools that can rewrite and modify messages in different tones. This is part of the app’s broader push to integrate more AI features, following recent reports of a redesigned Meta AI interface for Android and iOS. Here’s what we know so far.

AI Writing Tools Coming to WhatsApp

According to Android Authority, WhatsApp is developing AI-assisted text editing tools that will allow users to proofread and rewrite messages in different styles. While the proofread option will spellcheck and proofread the typed message, the other options will change the style and tone of the message.

Users will be able to choose from seven different filters, which include the following –

  • Shorter
  • Funny
  • Puns
  • Spooky
  • Rephrase
  • Supportive
  • Sarcastic

When this feature rolls out, WhatsApp users will see a Pencil button near the Send button. Tapping it will open a text editor where they can access these AI-driven tools.

As of now, the feature is still in development and its code was recently spotted in WhatsApp version 2.25.85. This suggests that beta users may get access soon, though there’s no timeline for a full rollout.

WhatsApp Is Also Working on a Photo Collage Feature

In addition to AI writing tools, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a photo collage feature for Status updates.

Revealed in a separate Android Authority report, this feature will supposedly allow users to select up to six images and arrange them in a grid. A new Layout option will be introduced alongside the Music, Voice and Text options while composing a Status update.

So, if reports are true, WhatsApp is gearing up for some exciting updates in the near future with AI-powered text editing and new visual tools.

Apple TV+ is reportedly losing over $1 billion every year making it the only unprofitable service in Apple’s portfolio, according to a new report from The Information.

Since its launch in 2019, Apple has invested around $5 billion annually in original content, though it cut that budget to $4.5 billion in 2024. The streaming platform is home to popular shows like “Severance,” “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” “Silo,” and “Shrinking.”

Despite producing award-winning content, Apple TV+ still lags behind major competitors like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video in terms of subscribers.

Apple doesn’t disclose subscriber numbers, but the report estimates that Apple TV+ has around 45 million subscribers. In comparison, Netflix leads the industry with 301 million subscribers.

The Indian Express report explains, “they (Apple) cut it (Investment)down to about $500 million in 2024, the report said. While Apple TV+ doesn’t share subscription figures, as per an estimate done by Visible Alpha, it has 40.4 million subscribers till the end of 2024. Corresponding figures for Netflix stands at 301.63 million and Disney+ has 124.6 million users.”

The service started with a limited content library and gradually expanded. Its first original series, “For All Mankind,” premiered in November 2019 and received praise from both audiences and critics. However, Apple does not share viewership data for its shows.

The report highlights that most streaming services operate at a loss and Apple is no exception. However, unlike companies that rely on streaming revenue, Apple’s primary business is selling devices, making it less vulnerable to financial losses from Apple TV+. The report notes that Apple ventured into the streaming business mainly to keep people in the Apple ecosystem.

Commenting on the Apple TV+ strategy, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos during an interview with Variety recently said, “I don’t understand it beyond a marketing play, but they’re really smart people. Maybe they see something we don’t.”

The Smart Screen S6 Pro is ultra-thin, sitting just 5mm from the wall with its near zero-gap mount. Huawei has reduced the body thickness by 36%, making it blend seamlessly into modern living spaces. With a 99% screen-to-body ratio, the design is almost bezel-free, offering an immersive viewing experience.

It is HDR Vivid-certified, covers 94% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and boasts a colour accuracy of ΔE ≤1.5, which Huawei claims is professional-grade.

For smooth motion and gaming performance, the 288Hz refresh rate works alongside Honghu’s motion clarity algorithms. The TV also adapts contrast, brightness, and colour automatically based on the content being played. There’s even a dedicated gaming UI that lets users tweak settings in real-time.

Huawei has just introduced its latest foldable smartphone the Huawei Pura X and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. It sits somewhere between a flip phone and a book-style foldable, featuring a design that Huawei calls wide folding. Here’s all we know about the device.

Huawei Pura X – A Unique Foldable Form Factor

The Pura X was unveiled in China and it resembles a flip phone-style foldable with a cover display beside the cameras. However, when unfolded, it takes on a much wider shape rather than the usual tall, narrow design of traditional smartphones.

The hinge sits on the side when folded, giving it a fresh and unconventional look.

When fully open, the Pura X measures 143.2mm in height and 91.7mm in width, making it much wider than typical smartphones. When folded, it becomes 91.7mm by 74.3mm, making it compact but still uniquely proportioned.

The Pura X features a composite super-tough laminated structure, including a titanium alloy support layer, UTG glass, and a basalt water-drop hinge structure. It is also IPX8-rated, meaning it can handle water exposure up to 2 meters deep.

Huawei Pura X – Display and Features

The Pura X comes with a 6.3-inch foldable OLED screen featuring a 16:10 aspect ratio, making it ideal for wider content viewing. It also has a 3.5-inch outer OLED display with a 1:1 aspect ratio, allowing for easy access to notifications, messaging, health apps, and music controls. Both screens support 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate and 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming for a smooth and eye-friendly experience.

The cover screen offers customisable wallpapers including live animations, and allows users to take calls without unfolding the device. The earpiece is placed right next to the LED flash, meaning users will hold the phone with the cover screen facing them while on a call.

  • 8MP 3.5x telephoto camera
  • 5MP multi-spectral channel red maple primary colour camera

It also includes AI-enhanced photography features, like dual-screen photography, mirror selfies, and hovering photography.

For connectivity, the phone supports second-gen Lingxi communication (5A speed) and Tiantong satellite communication, ensuring stable performance even in challenging environments. It also includes an ultra-cold three-dimensional heat dissipation system for improved thermal management.

The Pura X runs on HarmonyOS 5, which Huawei claims brings a 40% boost in performance and integrates a Star Shield security architecture for better protection.

Huawei has equipped the Pura X with two silicon-carbon negative electrode batteries, totalling 4720mAh. It supports 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging, ensuring quick power-ups.

Apple’s C1 Modem in iPhone 16e Outperforms Qualcomm in iPhone 16: New Study Shows

0

Highlights

  • A new study shows Apple’s C1 modem in the iPhone 16e excels in poor network conditions compared to Qualcomm’s modem.
  • While Qualcomm’s modem in the iPhone 16 delivers better peak download speeds, Apple’s C1 offers superior median speeds and upload performance.
  • The C1 modem also demonstrates strong reliability in real-world scenarios.

Apple is usually known for being late to the part but it hardly ever comes unprepared. It appears the Cupertino giant is being true to its reputation when it comes to the in-house modems as well. Initially, Apple’s new C1 modem was expected to lag behind Qualcomm’s 5G modem, at least in its first version. However, a new study now suggests otherwise.

A real-world performance study by Ookla compared the iPhone 16e, which uses Apple’s C1 modem, against the standard iPhone 16, which comes with Qualcomm’s modem. The results were unexpected.

The iPhone 16e with Apple’s C1 modem performed significantly better in the lowest 10th percentile. This means that in situations where network connectivity is poor, the C1 modem offers a more reliable experience than Qualcomm’s.

image
New study testing C1 Chip performance published by Ookla. (Image credit – Ookla)

At the highest 90th percentile, the iPhone 16 with Qualcomm’s modem had better top download speeds on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. However, Ookla noted that this doesn’t necessarily translate to a better user experience, as extreme high-end speeds don’t always impact daily use.

The report explains, “Performance at the lowest 10th percentile often provides a more accurate reflection of overall quality of experience (QoE) than the fastest 90th percentile, which can be skewed by deployments in mmWave-covered locations and is subject to declining marginal returns.”

When looking at median speeds, the iPhone 16e had the upper hand on AT&T and Verizon, while T-Mobile users saw slightly faster median speeds with Qualcomm’s modem.

The C1 modem consistently outperformed Qualcomm’s when it came to upload speeds. On AT&T and Verizon, it offered nearly double the speed of Qualcomm’s modem, while on T-Mobile, it maintained a slight edge.

While Qualcomm still holds an advantage in peak speeds, Apple’s C1 is proving to be a strong contender, especially in real-world conditions where network performance matters most.

FAQs

Q1. How does Apple’s C1 modem in the iPhone 16e compare to Qualcomm’s modem in the iPhone 16?

Answer. The C1 modem outperforms Qualcomm’s modem in poor network conditions, providing more reliable performance and better upload speeds in real-world scenarios.

Q2. Which modem offers better download speeds, Apple’s C1 or Qualcomm’s?

Answer. Qualcomm’s modem achieves higher peak download speeds, but the C1 modem delivers superior median speeds on AT&T and Verizon, enhancing everyday usability.

Q3. What advantages does Apple’s C1 modem provide in real-world conditions?

Answer. The C1 modem excels in areas with poor connectivity, offers nearly double the upload speeds on AT&T and Verizon, and proves to be highly reliable.
