Apple has released the iOS 17.1.2 update for its iPhone 15 lineup and select older models, alongside macOS Sonoma 14.1.2.
The focus is not on making breakthrough changes in the software but on addressing minor issues and enhancing security across supported iPhone and Mac models.
One of the key focuses of the iOS 17.1.2, which will come out on iPhone 11 and above, is the resolution of two actively exploited vulnerabilities in Apple’s WebKit browser engine.
These flaws, known as CVE-2023-42916 and CVE-2023-42917, potentially allowed unauthorized access to sensitive content on older iOS versions.
Apple has now addressed these issues with improved input validation and enhanced memory corruption vulnerability locking mechanisms.
Users with compatible iPhone models can easily download and install the iOS 17.1.2 update.
The process involves navigating to the Settings app, selecting General, then Software Update, and following on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
As per usual, you are recommended to connect your devices to a power source during the update process.
While the iOS 17.1.2 launched update and macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 focus on immediate fixes and security patches, Apple is concurrently working on the iOS 17.2 update.
Expected later this month, iOS 17.2 is set to introduce new features such as the Journal app for iPhone and enhancements in the Apple Music app, including collaborative playlists.
The update will also bring improvements to the Apple TV app and add new clock and weather widgets.
