App Store Awards 2022 Winners: The Best Apps and Games of the Year

The App Store Awards 2022 winners have been recently announced crowing the best apps and games of the year. Apple’s App Store editorial team was on the jury of the annual awards that rank both new and old apps of the store based on their utility, performance, engagement, imagination and innovation. Apple announced a total of 16 apps and games as winners on its official website newsroom on November 28, 2022.

In the announcement post, Apple divulged what the winner apps and games represent and noted, “this year’s winners represent a diverse community of developers from around the world whose apps and games were selected by Apple’s global App Store editorial team for delivering exceptional experiences and making a profound cultural impact.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook, as was quoted in the announcement post, said, “This year’s App Store Award winners reimagined our experiences with apps that delivered fresh, thoughtful, and genuine perspectives.”

“From self-taught solo creators to international teams spanning the globe, these entrepreneurs are making a meaningful impact, and represent the ways in which apps and games influence our communities and lives,” Tim further added.

The awards were named in various categories for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Amongst others, the categories also included Apple Watch app of the year, Apple Arcade game of the year and five Cultural Impact winners. So, without further ado, let’s quickly check all the apps and game winners of the App Store Awards 2022.

BeReal – iPhone App of the Year

BeRead as the name suggest allows you to be real. It is a social media platform where users post their no-filter photos that automatically disappear after a day. In fact, the app itself sends a notification every day at different times for users to check and share their unfiltered photos in 2 minutes. The app bagged the iPhone App of the Year award in the App Store Awards 2022.

Apex Legend Mobile- iPhone Game of the Year

The iPhone game of the Year award was given to Apex Legends Mobile. This is a strategy-based royal battle where players are divided into groups of three and each group has to kill members of the other. Marking the return of legendary characters from the Apex Legends series, this game can be played with up to 60 players.

Gentler Streak – WatchOS App of the Year

Gentler Streak is an Apple Watch App that focuses on helping users balance their fitness with the rest of their life. It basically promises to put the well-being of the user as its priority. It is also the winner of the WatchOS App of the Year award.

GoodNotes 5 – iPad App of the Year

There are too many note-taking apps in the App Store. So, what’s with another app? Well, Apple says GoodNotes 5 is the best app for taking notes on your iPad. GoodNotes 5 is the iPad App for the Year.  The app offers Apple Pencil support and users get features such as collaboration tools and PDF markup.

Moncage – iPad Game of the Year

Moncage is the winner of iPad Game of the year. What’s so special about it? This is basically a completely transformed version of puzzle adventure games. Moncage has levels inside a mysterious cube with each level throwing unique designs making it harder as users move up the levels.

MacFamillyTree 10 – Mac App of the Year

MacFamillyTree 10 is a genealogy software program and it is also the winner of Mac App of the Year. This app allows users to generate their family tree using various available details. Users can add diagrams, photos, stats and audio clips.

Inscryption – Mac App of the Year

Inscryption was awarded the Mac App of the Year. As much as it is a deck-card-based adventure game, the Apple Store description describes the game as “an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie.”

ViX – Apple TV App of the Year

ViX is a TelevisaUnivision streaming platform that offers content from Televisa. It is basically a one-stop-shop for a large selection of movies, series, TV shows, documentaries, and live sports along with third-party content. ViX is the winner of the Apple TV App of the Year award.

El Hijo – Apple TV Game of the Year

El Hijo is the Apple TV Game of the Year. Developed by HandyGames, this is a non-violent spaghetti-western stealth game that follows a six year old orphan boy and his adventures as he navigates through life and searches for his mother.
