MediaTek has introduced two new chipsets in its mid-premium lineup namely the Dimensity 7450 and Dimensity 7450X. Both processors are now listed on the company’s official website and are expected to power upcoming smartphones and foldable devices. Early reports suggest that the Dimensity 7450X could debut in devices like the Motorola Razr 70. Here’s more on that.
Both the new MediaTek chipsets share identical core specifications. The primary difference is that Dimensity 7450X is specifically optimised for foldable smartphones. It adds support for dual-display functionality making it suitable for flip-style foldables that feature both external and internal screens.
This distinction indicates that the Dimensity 7450X will likely power foldable devices. Meanwhile, the standard Dimensity 7450 is expected to be used in conventional smartphones focused on gaming and multimedia performance.
The Dimensity 7450 and Dimensity 7450X share largely similar hardware and are designed to deliver improved performance in gaming, AI processing, camera capabilities and connectivity. Both chipsets are built on a 4nm-class process and feature an octa-core CPU configuration consisting of four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
Graphics performance is handled by the Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU.
MediaTek has equipped both processors with its sixth-generation NPU to enhance on-device AI capabilities. According to the company, the AI engine offers up to 7 percent better performance compared to previous-generation chips improving efficiency for AI-powered camera features and other edge AI tasks.
For gaming, the chipsets include MediaTek HyperEngine technology along with Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0, which dynamically balances performance and power consumption during gameplay.
The chipsets are compatible with both LPDDR5 and LPDDR4X RAM supporting memory speeds of up to 6400Mbps. For storage, they offer compatibility with UFS 2.2 and UFS 3.1 standards.
In terms of camera capabilities, the processors support up to 200-megapixel sensors through the Imagiq 950 ISP. They also enable 4K HDR video recording, hardware-assisted noise reduction and support for Google Ultra HDR imaging. Display support extends up to WFHD+ resolution at 120Hz and Full HD+ displays with refresh rates of up to 144Hz.
On the connectivity front, both chips support Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 and 5G download speeds of up to 3.27Gbps with support for 3CC carrier aggregation.
