It appears OnePlus is taking gaming-focused technology to the next level with the upcoming OnePlus 16. We have previously reported on upcoming e-sports triple-core technology for OnePlus 16 and now tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo has shared new details. According to the tipster, this technology will consist of three dedicated chips developed by OnePlus specifically to improve different aspects of the gaming experience. Here’s what we know so far.
OnePlus 16 To Get Three Dedicated Gaming Chips
According to a recent Weibo post by tipster DCS, OnePlus 16 is going to be the first smartphone to use all three chips in addition to the main processor.
The three custom chips are reportedly named the P4 display chip, G3 network chip and T3 touch chip. It is suggested that each chip is expected to focus on a specific area of gaming performance rather than handling the same task.
The P4 display chip is said to help lower screen response times, while the G3 network chip should focus on maintaining a more stable connection during gaming. The T3 touch chip, meanwhile, is expected to improve touch response by allowing inputs to register faster.
OnePlus is also reportedly working directly with FPS game studios to optimise the system for actual gaming scenarios. This suggests the company is not only developing the hardware but is also tuning the technology around popular competitive games.
OnePlus 16 To Get Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro
Apart from the gaming chips, the upcoming flagship will still rely on a separate primary processor. The smartphone is tipped to be among the first devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. The upcoming flagship processor is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process and could feature new Oryon CPU cores with clock speeds exceeding 5GHz.
The custom gaming chips are expected to work alongside the main chipset rather than replace it.
The Snapdragon chipset is also expected to deliver higher IPC or instructions per cycle, which should contribute to improved overall processing performance.
OnePlus 16 – What Else We Know So Far?
Based on previous leaks, OnePlus 16 is also expected to feature a new-generation Oriental Screen display developed jointly with BOE. While display hardware is getting an upgrade, the software experience could also receive considerable attention.
The phone is expected to run ColorOS 17 as Oppo and OnePlus have reportedly spent several months optimising the software ahead of the launch. This work is said to include tuning animations and improving resource management to make the overall interface feel smoother.
