The OnePlus 16 is expected to bring a major display upgrade with a new BOE X4 panel reportedly offering a 165Hz refresh rate across the system. Tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo has now shared more details about the upcoming flagship’s display. Here’s everything we know so far about the new display material developed by OnePlus and BOE in collaboration.
OnePlus 16 To Get 165Hz Refresh Rate Across The System
According to the DCS’s recent post, the OnePlus 16 will feature a redesigned BOE Oriental Screen with support for a 165Hz refresh rate across the system. Now, we know that the OnePlus 15 already features a 165Hz display, so this time the brand is bringing the refresh rate to more parts of the system. This would make the OnePlus 16’s screen a more meaningful upgrade.

It goes beyond simply having a 165Hz display as the higher refresh rate is expected to work across more system functions and application scenarios rather than being limited to selected use cases.
The new panel is reportedly based on an X4 light-emitting material jointly developed by OnePlus and BOE. OnePlus has previously claimed that the material outperformed Samsung’s M-series material in its internal tests. It is also said to reduce power consumption and offer a longer lifespan.
The OnePlus 16 is expected to retain a flat display with slim bezels.

OnePlus 16 Could Achieve 185Hz in Supported Games
A 165Hz system-wide refresh rate is not the only display upgrade we may get this year. The OnePlus 16 display may offer an even higher refresh rate while gaming and according to the latest tip, the OnePlus 16 could reach up to 185Hz in supported games.
OnePlus has also confirmed improvements to its gaming technologies including its high refresh rate technology, Fengchi Gaming Core and e-sports triple-core technology.
The smartphone is expected to run ColorOS 17 in China. The software could also bring new system-level animations designed to make transitions smoother when using the high-refresh-rate display.

OnePlus 16 is tipped to use the upcoming 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.
It is also rumoured to feature a 200-megapixel primary rear camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor. It could be accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel 3.5x periscope telephoto camera.
The OnePlus 16 is expected to launch in October. However, OnePlus has not yet officially confirmed the phone’s specifications or launch date, so the reported details should be treated as leaks until the company makes an announcement.
