Samsung Expands Self-Repair Program to Include Foldable Smartphones

Samsung has made a significant expansion of its Self-Repair program, now encompassing its latest range of smartphones, tablets, and PCs.

However, the most important part for which Samsung has to be commended is that after 5 years of launching foldable smartphones, finally, the expensive lineup is now going to be covered under the self-repair program.

The program’s extension to Galaxy foldable models like the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5, marks a notable enhancement, providing users with the flexibility to maintain and extend the life of their devices.

Inherently with so many moving parts and a fragile inner display, the Galaxy Fold phones are not the most durable but they are super expensive.

This initiative is likely to help users extend the lifespan of these devices without the need to have deep pockets.

“At Samsung, we’re creating more ways for consumers to extend the lifespan of our products with premium care experiences,” Ramon Gregory, Senior Vice President of Customer Care at Samsung Electronics America, had said.

“Availability of self-repair will provide our consumers the convenience and more options for sustainable solutions,” he added.

Eligible Devices and Regional Expansion

The list of devices eligible for the self-repair program is extensive, including models from the Galaxy S20, S21, S22, and S23 series, the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, selected models of the Galaxy A series, and various iterations of the Galaxy Tab S9 and Galaxy Book series.

By December, Samsung plans to include additional models such as the Galaxy S23 series, Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Book2 Pro series in the program.

Samsung’s Self-Repair initiative, already operational in South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and selected European countries, is now broadening its reach to 30 more European nations.

This expansion, encompassing countries like Denmark, Greece, Hungary, and Portugal, is part of Samsung’s commitment to sustainable practices and efficient resource utilization.

The program offers Galaxy users access to genuine parts for self-repair.

These parts include components for the screen, back glass, charging ports, speaker, SIM tray, and keys on Galaxy smartphones.

For Galaxy Book series users, the available parts for self-repair include the front and rear case, display, battery, touchpad, power key with fingerprint reader, rubber feet, fan, and speakers.

In alignment with Samsung’s aim to empower its community with more repair options, users will retain all the necessary repair tools, offering a convenient solution for future device maintenance.

This initiative not only provides access to original parts for essential repairs but also demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the user experience and promoting sustainable practices.

Furthermore, Samsung’s expansion to additional European countries such as Albania, Andorra, Austria, and others, signifies its dedication to making self-repair accessible to a broader audience.

As of right now, however, there is no word on when this program could be seen in the Indian market.
