Samsung is on the brink of revealing its next generation of object tracking technology with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2.
After the launch of the first SmartTag in 2021, this successor has recently been spotted on multiple certification websites, indicating that the launch might be imminent.
The SmartTag 2 has been spotted on certification websites including the NBTC and Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as well as the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) website.
These appearances provide glimpses of what to expect. Of course, just spotting these products on these websites, doesn’t give any indication on when a launch date can be expected.
However, one can make reasonable deductions on the kind of features that might be on offer.
The NBTC certification website listed the SmartTag 2 with the model number EI-T5600, showcasing its ultra-wide-band (UWB) technology. This confirms an upgrade from the original SmartTag, aligning it with the capabilities of the enhanced version, the SmartTag+.
The FCC listing further reveals SmartTag 2’s support for a 3.0V power supply, FPCB antenna, and single channel. This adds to the understanding of its technological advances.
The SmartTag 2 will rely on Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. It’s a continuation from the previous versions, maintaining the essential features while also enhancing them with the latest Bluetooth technology.
The first SmartTag offered Bluetooth but lacked UWB technology, which was later included in the SmartTag+. It appears that the SmartTag 2 will integrate both features, maintaining continuity while also embracing innovation.
Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 may include a more robust speaker system, enhancing its ability to be located through sound. Simultaneously, it could feature an upgraded integration with the Samsung smart home ecosystem.
This integration would allow for more sophisticated functionalities, such as triggering pre-set scenes using a sequence of button presses.
Although the exact release date remains uncertain, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 is expected to debut alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in an upcoming Unpacked event in early 2024. However, we will tell you to take this potential launch date with a grain of salt.
The SmartTag 2 is Samsung’s upcoming object tracker that features UWB technology and Bluetooth 5.3, building upon the functionalities of the original SmartTag and SmartTag+
The certifications showcase details like UWB technology, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, 3.0V power supply, FPCB antenna, and single channel.
Unlike the original SmartTag, which only supported Bluetooth, the SmartTag 2 incorporates UWB technology, similar to the enhanced SmartTag+ version.
Though the exact date is unknown, it is anticipated to launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in early 2024.
