Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Gaming Features

The RedMagic 12 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. It is paired with RedMagic’s in-house RedCore R5 gaming chip and G1 display chip, which are designed to handle gaming-related tasks and display performance.

On the software front, the smartphone runs RedMagic OS 12 based on Android 17. It comes with built-in Google Gemini support, PC game emulation and Steam access through the X-Gravity gaming centre.

The phone also features the AquaCore Cooling System 3.0 to manage heat during extended gaming sessions. The updated dual-loop liquid cooling system now comes with RGB lighting and a new micro-pump that delivers up to 130kPa of pressure. RedMagic claims this is an 85% improvement over the previous pump, while power consumption can be as low as 20mW.

The cooling setup also includes a built-in fan capable of reaching speeds of up to 25,500 RPM, a vapour chamber with 15% more coverage and Liquid Metal 4.0. Other gaming-focused features include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, an X-axis linear motor and shoulder triggers with a 520Hz response rate. This is lower than the 700Hz response rate offered by the Chinese version.

RedMagic 12 Pro Packs an 8,400mAh Battery

One of the major highlights of the RedMagic 12 Pro is its 8,400mAh battery. This is a 12% increase over the 7,500mAh battery found in the RedMagic 11 Pro. However, the global version comes with 80W wired charging support compared to 120W charging on the Chinese RedMagic 12 Pro+.

The phone also supports wireless charging and bypass charging, which allows users to power the device directly without continuously charging the battery during gaming sessions.

Despite packing a larger battery, the RedMagic 12 Pro is slightly thinner than its predecessor. It measures 8.5mm, compared to the 8.9mm thickness of the RedMagic 11 Pro.

RedMagic 12 Pro Gets a 185Hz OLED Display With Under-Display Camera

The RedMagic 12 Pro features a 6.85-inch 1.5K OLED display supplied by BOE. The panel supports a 185Hz refresh rate making it one of the key upgrades for gamers looking for smoother visuals.

The display also offers up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness and a touch sampling rate of up to 5,000Hz. It has extremely thin 0.96mm bezels and an uninterrupted full-screen design without a visible camera cutout.

RedMagic claims that the phone combines a high refresh rate with an under-display selfie camera, allowing users to enjoy a full-screen gaming experience without a punch-hole camera interrupting the display.

For selfies and video calls, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel ninth-generation under-display front camera developed in collaboration with BOE. It also comes with a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor integrated into the display. On the rear, the RedMagic 12 Pro houses a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

RedMagic 12 Pro: Should You Consider It?

The RedMagic 12 Pro looks like a great upgrade for mobile gamers with its 185Hz full-screen OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and better AquaCore Cooling System 3.0. The larger 8,400mAh battery is another notable upgrade for users who spend long hours gaming on their smartphones.

However, the global version makes a few compromises compared to the Chinese model. The most notable is the reduction in wired charging speed from 120W to 80W and also the shoulder trigger response rate has also dropped from 700Hz to 520Hz.

Anyhow, if you are looking for gaming performance, cooling and battery life, the new phone is definitely worth considering with all the updated specs.
