The Red Magic 9 Pro series, comprising the Red Magic 9 Pro and Red Magic 9 Pro+, was launched yesterday in China, marking the latest addition to the gaming smartphone sector.
As the market for GPU-intensive handsets is growing, so are the innovations from the likes of Nubia, Asus, and more.

The Red Magic 9 Pro is priced at CNY 4,399 for the 8GB+256GB variant, with the 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB models priced at CNY 4,799 and CNY 5,199, respectively.
The Red Magic 9 Pro+ starts at CNY 5,499 for the 16GB+256GB version, going up to CNY 6,999 for the top-tier 24GB+1TB model.
No word currently on when the devices will make their way to the Indian market.
The Red Magic 9 Pro and the Pro+ models, boast a 6.8-inch full-HD+ BOE Q9+ display. This screen offers a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, ensuring crisp and fluid visuals essential for gaming.
These smartphones operate on Red Magic OS 9.0, built on Android 14, providing a contemporary and streamlined user interface.
Powering these devices is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, augmented by the Red Core R2 gaming chip specifically designed to boost gaming performance.
The Red Magic 9 Pro is equipped with up to 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the Pro+ version increases storage capacity to 1TB.
A significant feature of these phones is their advanced thermal management system.
They incorporate a substantial vapour chamber and a new alloy fan with a waterfall air duct.
This innovative combination, together with the company’s unique CUBE engine, is reported to reduce the device’s temperature by as much as 25 degrees Celsius.
In terms of photography, both models are equipped with a 50MP primary camera featuring a Samsung GN5 sensor and OIS, alongside a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera with a Samsung JN1 sensor.
They also include a 16MP under-display camera, suitable for selfies and video calls.
The connectivity features are comprehensive, offering 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port.
The Red Magic 9 Pro comes with a 6,500mAh battery supporting 80W fast charging, while the Pro+ variant includes a 5,500mAh battery that supports a mind-boggling 165W fast charging.
Additionally, both models are equipped with an under-display fingerprint scanner, enhancing their security features.
