AI is the buzzword of 2023 without a shadow of a doubt and Large Language Models have now been unequivocally considered as the future of communications.
India, as a co-founder of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), is playing a pivotal role in the advancement of AI technology on a global scale.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a recent blog post on LinkedIn, extended an invitation to the summit and explained how AI is changing the world.
His post was detailed and quite pragmatic about India’s efforts in the oncoming AI race.
“India, as one of the youngest nations with a vibrant start-up ecosystem and a talented workforce, is poised to be an active contributor to the evolution of Al as the world leaps into a not-so-distant future,” the PM wrote.
He emphasized the country’s commitment to harnessing AI for public welfare, focusing on the importance of ensuring that nations in the Global South are not left behind in reaping the benefits of AI.
The PM also highlighted the rapid progress India has made in technological adoption, attributing this leap to the widespread penetration of mobile phones and internet connectivity, coupled with scalable digital inclusion models.
As per him India is one of the youngest nations with a vibrant startup ecosystem and a talented workforce.
This makes it well-positioned to contribute significantly to the evolution of AI.
However, the Prime Minister also stressed the need for a regulatory framework that ensures the safe and trusted use of AGI, aiming to bring nations together for its widespread and sustainable implementation.
He also pointed out that we are living in a time of fast-paced innovation, with AI expanding its applications at an exponential rate.
At the GPAI Summit, India’s role is not just as a host but also as an active contributor and leader in the AI domain.
The summit will feature an AI Expo, showcasing the strengths of 150 startups, reflecting the country’s robust startup ecosystem.
Since its inception in June 2020, India has been an active participant in GPAI, engaging in various initiatives to foster the development, deployment, and adoption of open, safe, secure, and accountable AI.
Through initiatives like the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), India is set to offer scalable, secure, affordable, sustainable, and globally replicable AI solutions.
The PM’s vision for India in AI is clear: to not only keep pace with global advancements but to be at the forefront, ensuring that technology serves as a tool for empowerment and inclusive growth.
Modi emphasized the transformative potential of AI and India’s commitment to leveraging it for global welfare, especially for the Global South.
Modi views India as a key player in AI innovation, backed by its young population, technological advancements, and vibrant startup culture.
The summit, under Modi’s leadership, aims to showcase India’s AI capabilities and encourage global collaboration for responsible AI development.
Modi advocates for a comprehensive global regulatory framework to ensure safe, ethical, and trusted use of AI technologies.
GPAI is a multi-stakeholder initiative launched in June 2020 to bridge the gap between theory and practice in AI. It supports cutting-edge research and applied activities on AI-related priorities
GPAI was launched with 15 member countries. It has expanded to include 28 member countries and the European Union.
The Research Symposium aims to advance responsible AI in public-sector applications by providing a platform for collaboration and presenting actionable research on responsible AI to a global audience.
