However, the fact check wing of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has now posted on X (previously known as Twitter) that there is no such scheme being run by the government.

“A text message with a website link is circulating on social media which claims that @EduMinOfIndia is offering 500,000 free laptops to all students…#PIBFactCheck…The circulated link is #Fake…The government is not running any such scheme,” the message reads.

According to multiple media reports, this is the full message circulated by the name of the Indian government, “The government of India has been launched this Prime Minister Free Laptop Scheme which is specially for all the India State, all the eligible students can apply for the PM Free Laptop Scheme though official website www.pmflsgovt.in.

The Indian government has announced that all the students of class XI, XII, B.A-1st, B.A-2nd, B.A-3rd, B.A-4th, B.A-5th, and B.A-6th Semester that can be registered under Prime Minister Free Laptop Scheme.
