* Microsoft’s Phone Link app lets Android users access basic phone features on a Windows PC.
* This company is now adding support for iOS devices as well.
* Phone Link for iOS has started rolling out to all Windows 11 and iPhone users.

Microsoft’s Phone Link that first launched as ‘Your Phone’ allows Android users to use their phones on Windows desktops. Through Phone Link, Android users can check notifications, receive calls, and even use smartphone apps on the laptop or computer without checking their phone. Microsoft is now adding support for iOS on Phone Link.

Microsoft has started rolling out Phone Link for iOS for all Windows 11 users globally. Since it has just been released, users should start seeing the feature on their PCs in the coming weeks, and by mid-May it should be available to all. Similar to Phone Link for Android, iPhone users will now be able to access their device’s features on a Windows PC.

Phone Link for iOS Features

iOS Features

This feature essentially allows iPhone users to answer calls, reply to messages, and access contacts all from their PC and without having to check their phone. And yes, you will be able to use iMessage too but in a limited way.

How to use Phone Link for iOS

iOS Features

Firstly, you’ll need an iPhone running iOS 14 or higher, a Windows 11 PC, Bluetooth connectivity and the latest version of the Phone Link app. You can check if the feature is available on your Windows PC by typing ‘Phone Link’ in the search box that’s available in the taskbar.

Once it’s available, a pop-up screen explaining what Phone Link is will appear. Here, you’ll have to choose whether you want to connect an Android or iOS phone to your Windows PC.

So your iPhone has to be always connected to the Windows PC via Bluetooth to use Phone Link features. Also, Phone Link supports only iOS and not iPadOS. iMessage support on Phone Link also comes with limitations as you cannot share photos or videos, and access group chats on Phone Link.

The limitations are due to iOS, and there’s no word on whether it will be relaxed in the future. But for now you can enjoy the basic features on Phone Link for iOS.

Faqs on iOS Features

1) Getting started for Insiders who receive the preview of setting iPhone on windows ?

Ans) If you are an Insider who receives the preview of Phone Link for iOS, you will see the option to pick your iPhone on the Phone Link homepage (in addition to choosing an Android device). If you see the iPhone button greyed out with a coming soon message, that means you are not yet in the preview.

After choosing iPhone, the guided installation will kick off to pair your iPhone. You will be directed to follow a set of steps that will guide you to pair your iPhone and PC over Bluetooth. This will initiate after you scan a QR code shown on your screen, and then move on to the confirmation steps that helps us confirm the phone and PC are in range.

During this step, you will be asked to confirm the code in Phone Link matches the code shown on your iPhone. Once you complete pairing, you’ll be asked to grant a set of permissions that allow us to get all your favorite content sync’d over to Phone Link.

This is the final step. Phone Link will direct you to give permissions on your iPhone in your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings. This is an important step in getting notifications and contacts to show correctly in Phone Link from your iPhone.

Once the guided installation completes and your iPhone is paired to your PC and the right permissions given, Phone Link will deliver basic iOS support for calls, messages, and contacts. This means you will be notified directly through your Windows notifications. Phone Link does not support replying to group messages or sending media in messages.

As you try out this experience with your iPhone, if you run into any issues make sure you submit feedback via Feedback Hub under Apps > Phone Link. To see a list of known issues and to troubleshoot issues with the Phone Link Team – click here to visit this Microsoft Tech Community forum post.

2) How can you Install iCloud and iTunes for Windows?

Ans) iCloud for Windows is Apple’s olive branch to Windows users, bringing over photos, videos, email, files, bookmarks and more to your Windows machine. It’s not the most comprehensive or feature-filled application out there, but at least it’s an official Apple product that’s semi-regularly maintained.

It’s particularly handy if you’re beginning to rely a lot on iCloud for your apps, photos, videos, and files. You can get a lot of the stuff on your iPhone synced over to your Windows machine, so the files themselves are physically saved to disk and available to edit, view, share, or whatever else you want to do with them.

In the case of photos and videos handled by iCloud, you can sync the files on your Windows computer up to the iCloud Photo Library (so they’re available on your iPhone) and sync the files from your iPhone to a folder on your Windows device too. New iCloud Drive and iCloud photos entries appear in File Explorer.

This is the easiest solution if you’re heavily invested in Apple’s apps on your iPhone and want everything mirrored over to Windows—all the key stuff like emails, photos, and so on. Because you’re relying on Apple’s software, you can be reasonably sure that everything under the hood is going to work smoothly.

If you want to manage a big music library (playlists and all) from your Windows computer, or you want to watch the films you’ve bought on your iPhone on your PC, or you want a local backup of the data on your iPhone, install iTunes for Windows. If you use Spotify and Netflix for all your music and video, you can probably manage with just iCloud for Windows instead.

3) How to Sign into iCloud in Windows 10?

Ans) iCloud for Windows takes care of a lot of the tricky issues of integrating Apple’s services into Windows programs, but if you want to take a more piecemeal approach—just email, or just calendars—then approach the problem from the Windows side instead.

Open up Mail in Windows 10 for example, click Accounts, then click Add account: You’ll notice iCloud is one of the options listed. Sign in with your Apple credentials, and Mail will let you send and receive messages as if you were using Mail on macOS. All of the background technical work is done for you, you just need your username and password.

The same trick works in the People and Calendar apps that come as part of Windows 10. If you click the cog icon in the lower left-hand corner of either app, then have a look at your accounts, iCloud is available as one of the accounts to add. If you’ve already installed iCloud for Windows, this might have already been done for you.

You can manage this more broadly by going to the Accounts page in the Windows Settings pane. Under the Email & accounts tap you should see iCloud listed, or you can add it from here too. To get rid of an account, click on it, then choose Manage and Delete account.

This is really a more manual version of the same jobs that iCloud for Windows will do automatically on your behalf. If you want to take more control over the Apple accounts that you see in Windows, and don’t want to install any extra software on your Windows machine, go through the Windows apps instead.

Fake AirPods, Apple Watch shipments from China worth over Rs 2.3 crore seized by US officials at Washington Airport

HIGHLIGHTS

* Counterfeit Apple products worth $290,000 (over Rs 2.36 crore) were confiscated at a US Airport.
* The shipments comprised 1,000 Apple AirPods Pro and 50 Apple Watches.
* Apple counterfeits were seized on March 29th

A large number of counterfeit Apple products valued at approximately $290,000 (R2,36,92,855) were confiscated at Washington Dulles International Airport in the US. On March 15th, at Dulles, officers examined four shipments sent from China to an address in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Fake Apple products

As per the US Customs and Border Protection release, the shipments comprised 1,000 Apple AirPods Pro and 50 Apple Watches, NBC Washington reported.

The officers detained the products for investigation, suspecting them to be counterfeit. The Machinery Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEE) trade experts have examined pictures of the products and concluded that they are fake.

Authorities seized counterfeit Apple products On March 29th. However, no charges have been made in relation to the incident, the report said.

Apple iOS 16 feature to detect Fake AirPods

Fake Apple products

The issue of counterfeit products has been a longstanding battle for Apple, with AirPods and AirPods Pro being particularly affected. According to a report in 2021, Apple has suffered a loss of approximately $3.2 billion (Rs 261,883,539,200) due to counterfeit AirPods. Because of this, Apple added a feature to iOS 16 that tells users if they connect a fake pair of AirPods.

Apple introduced a new verification check in the iOS 16 update to identify fake AirPods. Users will receive an alert from iOS indicating that their headphones are not authentic when they pair fake AirPods. Users are not prevented from pairing or using fake AirPods with this feature. The notification notifies the user that they are utilising fake AirPods.

To confirm the authenticity of a pair of AirPods, you can also utilise its serial number. To locate the serial number for AirPods or AirPods Pro 2, check the underside of the charging case lid. The left earcup of the AirPods Max displays the serial number. To view it, you will need to take off the magnetic ear cushion.

Fake Apple products

To check the coverage of your device, visit checkcoverage.apple.com after obtaining the serial number. The AirPods’ warranty and additional coverage details will be presented on this webpage. Proper results will be visible if your AirPods are authentic. An error message will be displayed by the website if the items are not genuine.

Counterfeit AirPods have become a significant problem over the past several years, leading to Apple adding a built-in feature to iOS 16 that warns users if they connect a counterfeit pair of AirPods.

In an attempt to crack down on the problem, officials at Washington Dulles International Airport recently seized 1,000 pairs of counterfeit AirPods, alongside a collection of counterfeit Apple Watches as well..

Fake Apple products

In total, officers seized $290,000 worth of fake Apple products, according to a report from NBC Washington. The products were in Apple’s “signature simple, white packaging” and were headed from China to an address in Virginia. In total, the shipment included 1,000 fake pairs of AirPods Pro and 50 fake Apple Watch Ultra devices: Officers inspected four shipments sent from China to an address in Fairfax County, Virginia, at Dulles on March 15.

The shipments contained 1,000 Apple AirPods Pro and 50 Apple Watches, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection release.

Trade experts at the Machinery Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEE) viewed photos of the products and determined they were counterfeit. They appraised the product’s retail price at about $290,000.

Fake Apple products

Apple has battled counterfeit products for years, but it’s been a major problem for AirPods and AirPods Pro especially. In fact, a report in 2021 estimated that fake AirPods had cost Apple around $3.2 billion.

To counter this, Apple added a new system in iOS 16 last year that warns users when they attempt to pair counterfeit AirPods with their iPhone or iPad.

Still, some manufacturers of fake AirPods have already found ways to circumvent that iOS 16 warning.

In the past, Apple has said that it works with “law enforcement, customs, merchants, social media companies, and e-commerce sites” around the world to remove counterfeit product listings.

“Counterfeit products deliver an inferior experience, and they can often be dangerous,” the company said in a previous statement.

Faqs

1) 1,000 fake AirPods and 50 fake Apple Watch Ultra devices were confiscated at Washington Airport coming from China.Details ?

Ans) Mostly, these fake Apple products are manufactured in China and shipped to the United States. Manufacturers make these products at a fraction of the price and scamming users to pay the full price. United States officials and Apple are consistently working to track down counterfeit products and prevent the costs. NBC Washington reports that officers confiscated fake AirPods and Apple Watch Ultra devices from a DC-area airport worth $290,000, to be exact.

The report highlights that the fake AirPods and Apple Watch models were packed in Apple’s signature-style white packaging. It is very hard to distinguish between fake and original as the prior are manufactured to deceive the end user. The fake products were shipped from China to Virginia. As mentioned earlier, 1,000 fake AirPods and 50 Apple Watch Ultra devices were taken hold of. The incident took place on March 15.

Apple has long been working to counter the issue as it costs Apple a lot of money. For instance, in the year 2021, fake AirPods cost Apple more than $3 billion. To tackle the dilemma, Apple has implemented several solutions that users should follow. In iOS 16, Apple used a mechanism to let users know if fake AirPods have been connected to the iPhone. However, the manufacturers have found a way to bypass the notification. Since investigations are still underway, it is unclear at this stage who is responsible for the act.

Apple and U.S. officials work together to remove fake product listings. Usually, these types of products are sold online, where the end-user has no idea whether the product is straight from Apple. Since users are paying the full price, it reduces sales numbers for Apple. The company could potentially devise a solution for fake AirPods and Apple Watch Ultra models in iOS 17. While exact details are scarce at the moment, we will let you know as soon as Apple shares an update. It was previously reported that burglars cut a hole through the bathroom deal to steal over $500,000 worth of Apple products from the Apple Store.

2) Where are the fake apple products confiscated?

Ans) A large number of counterfeit Apple products valued at approximately $290,000 (Rs 2,36,92,855) were confiscated at Washington Dulles International Airport in the US. On March 15th, at Dulles, officers examined four shipments sent from China to an address in Fairfax County, Virginia.

* As far as the actual results are concerned, the QOO Neo 8 Pro has managed to pull off an impressive score of 1368597 on the AnTuTu benchmarking platform.

* To further add to the speculation that this is indeed the iQOO Neo 8 Pro, we noticed that 1QOO has started teasing the arrival of a new smartphone, which would be powered by the Dimensity 9200+ chip. The device, ideally, would belong to the Neo 8 series, given that the brand’s number series (QOO 12 lineup) is still far away from a release.

While the launch date of the iQ00 Neo 8 series has not been revealed yet, we can expect both devices to launch in China in May 2023. To learn more about the iQ0O Neo 8 series of smartphones, you can head to our previous coverage for the same.

Notably, the Redmi Note 12R Pro will offer up to 12GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, and an OLED panel. While the brand has not explicitly mentioned whether the device will support 5G or not, the promotional poster gives it away.

Redmi has confirmed the launch of a new Note series smartphone. The company has already launched multiple phones in the lineup. As part of the mid-cycle refresh, the company has confirmed the launch of the Note 12R Pro 5G in China.

Redmi Note 12R Pro

The upcoming Note series smartphone seems like a mid-range smartphone offering. Redmi already has four Pro phones in its current Note series. There is the standard Note 12 Pro 5G, Note 12 Pro 4G, Note 12 Pro Speed Edition, aka the POCO X5 Pro, and the Note 12 Pro+ 5G.

The upcoming Redmi Note 12R Pro 5G will sit somewhere between the former three devices mentioned above.

Let’s take a look.

New Redmi Note 12 series Phone

Redmi Note 12R Pro

* As seen in the promotional poster above, this is what the Redmi Note 12R Pro will look like.

* Let’s take a look at the text written on the promotional poster first up. The brand has confirmed that the Redmi Note 12R Pro will feature an OLED panel, which we assume might feature a 120Hz refresh rate, considering the fact that several other Redmi Note 12-series smartphones have had 120Hz refresh in the past.

* Moving on, the promotional poster confirms that the Redmi Note 12R Pro will arrive in a 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage variant. We can, however, expect the device to launch in other memory options as well.

* Coming to the device images now, the poster confirms that the Redmi Note 12R Pro will arrive in Gold, White, and Black colour options. The power button and the volume up and down buttons will be on the right side of the device. The power button, in all likelihood, will double as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner as well.

* The camera module clearly has the term 5G engraved on it, so it is confirmed that the Redmi Note 12R Pro will be a 5G handset. The module also reveals that the Redmi Note 12R Pro will feature a 48MP primary rear camera. We can expect the secondary camera to be an 8MP ultra-wide angle unit, but this is not confirmed for now.

* The device, given the series terminology, is expected to be priced around CNY 1,500 (roughly Rs 18,000) in China.

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G

HIGHLIGHTS

* The Realme 11 series of smartphones will launch on May 10th in China.
* The brand has showcased the design of the Realme 11 Pro+ 5G officially.
* The Realme 11 Pro+ 5G will feature a curved display and a 200MP OIS main camera, enclosed in a circular module.

The Realme 11 series of smartphones will make its debut in China on May 10th, 2023. The series is said to include the vanilla Realme 11, Realme 11 Pro, and Realme 11 Pro+ 5G devices.

Ahead of the launch, the brand has started teasing the design of the Realme 11 Pro+ 5G smartphone.

Realme, earlier today, shared a bunch of promotional posters and a promotional video for the upcoming Realme 11 Pro+ 5G, which gives us a working clue as to what the device will look like.

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G

The Realme 11 series is set to debut on May 10 in China. The company has confirmed the launch but did not reveal the number of devices it will unveil at the May 10 event in China. We can expect multiple phones to be unveiled under the Realme 11 series.

There will be the top-of-the-line Realme 11 Pro+ 5G, sitting above the 11 Pro and 11 5G. Realme has now dropped a new teaser, which confirms the key details about the top-end number series phone.

The Realme 11 Pro+ 5G design has been officially revealed. The company also confirmed some key details about the phone’s camera unit on the back.

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G

Based on the teased details, it is safe to say that the 11 Pro Plus 5G will get some key camera upgrades, at least on paper.

Let’s take a look at the Realme 11 Pro Plus 5G design, specifications and other details teased ahead of the launch.

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G design officially showcased ahead of launch

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G

* As seen in the promotional posters above, this is what the Realme 11 Pro+ 5G will look like.

* The device will feature a ring-shaped camera module, which will make room for three cameras and an LED flash. The camera ring also confirms that the Realme 11 Pro+ 5G will feature a 200MP primary camera with support for OIS.

* The rear of the device will flaunt a leather-like finish, with some apparent stitching lines flanking the camera module and going all the way to the bottom.

* On the right side of the device, we can see the volume up and down buttons and the power button. At the top, there will be a microphone and what appears to be an IR Blaster (not officially confirmed yet). Since we could not notice any antenna linings around the frame, it is safe to assume that the Realme 11 Pro+ 5G will not sport a metal chassis.

* The front of the device will make room for a curved panel, which we assume could be an AMOLED display.

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G Sspecifications (Expected)

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G

* Display: The Realme 11 Pro+ 5G is said to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, in-display fingerprint scanner, and curved edges.

* Cameras: The device will feature a 200MP main camera, which could be accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera and a macro camera. At the front, the device could feature a 16MP selfie shooter.

* Battery: The Realme 11 Pro+ 5G is likely to sport a 5,000mAh battery with support for
100W fast charging over a USB Type-C charging port.

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G to Sport 200MP Main Camera

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G

Realme has confirmed some key specifications and revealed the design of the 11 Pro+ 5G ahead of its launch on May 10 in China. The device is expected to launch in India later this year. According to the new teaser, the 11 Pro Plus 5G has a massive circular camera module on the back. The dual-tone camera module has shades of gold and black.

There is also an LED flash at the top of the module. At the bottom of the camera module is the text that confirms the 200MP primary camera. Details about the two other camera sensors are unknown. It is speculated that the device will feature an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro sensor.

Realme has partnered with Matteo Menotto, a former GUCCI printing designer, for the 11 Pro Plus 5G. The device has a curved rear and frame. It has a beige faux leather back panel, which is called “Sunrise City”.

Realme 11 Pro+ 5G

The rear panel has a vertical stripe running through the centre with gold and silver stitching. The frame, too, is gold in colour. We can see the power and volume buttons on the right edge of the phone. The SIM tray, USB Type-C port and speaker grille are at the bottom edge.

A teaser video also confirms that the phone has a curved display on the front. There is a hole-punch cutout at the top centre for the front camera. Realme did not reveal the display size or any features. However, considering the launch is less than a couple of weeks away, we can expect more teasers to drop soon.

The rumour mill, meanwhile, has been working hard to churn out some key details about the upcoming Realme smartphone. The device is tipped to feature an upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 7000 series SoC with a peak clock speed of 2.6GHz. There will be up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB/ 512GB of storage.

The 11 Pro Plus was spotted on 3C alongside the 11 Pro on 3C. The 11 Pro Plus will feature 100W charging, whereas the 11 Pro will get 67W fast charging support. Both devices are likely to sport a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with curved edges, according to some leaked TENAA images.

There will be support for up to 120Hz refresh rate on the 11 Pro+ 5G. It will also feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Apple to drop support for these iPad models with launch of iPadOS 17, check full list of popular iPhone and iPad models

iPadOS 17

HIGHLIGHTS

* The first 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models might not be able to use the upcoming iPadOS 17.
* The first-generation iPad Pro models are equipped with the A9x chip and the fifth-generation iPad with the A9 chipset.
* These models might get security patches but not very frequently.
* Apple will host WWDC event from June 5 to June 9.
* Apple will likely unveil its latest iOS 17 software, and some other products at the event.
* Apple is also expected to launch iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 for its iPhone and iPad models.

Apple is gearing up for its annual developer conference, WWDC 2023 June 10th. Rumour has it that they’ll be unveiling their much-anticipated AR/VR headset, the Apple Reality Pro. But that’s not all – Apple is expected to introduce realityOS software for the headset and the next-generation iPhone software version. The company is also set to reveal iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 for its iPhone and iPad models.

A report by iPhoneSoft suggests that three iPad models may lose support with the upcoming iPadOS 17. This is in line with previous rumours predicting the iPhone models expected to lose support with iOS 17. The report outlines the iPad models that will no longer support iPadOS 17 and claims that users should keep in mind that iPad models launched after 2017 are expected to be compatible with the new software.

 iPadOS 17

However, older models may not support the latest features and capabilities. It’s important to note that while a device may be listed as compatible with a new software update, it may not necessarily support all features offered by that software.

The report also suggests that all iPhone models capable of running iOS 16 will support iOS 17, although a previous report stated that three iPhone models will lose support with the new software update.

iPad models which will not support iPadOS 17

 iPadOS 17

As for the iPad model which will not support iPasOS 17, it is speculated that three iPad models – the iPad 5th gen, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro 1st gen, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 1st gen – will no longer support iOS 17 once the new software is released.

The list of iPad models likely to be compatible with iOS 17 includes the iPad Air 3rd gen and later, the iPad 6th gen and later, the iPad mini 5th gen and later, and any iPad Pro model released in 2017 or later.

As for the awaited launches coming at WWDC 2023, all the eyes are on the upcoming lineup for Macbook and AR or Vr headsets. A report by 9To5Mac suggests that Apple is planning to launch two models of the next-generation MacBook Air – a 13-inch and a 15-inch variant – powered by Apple’s new M3 chip. The same chip will also reportedly be used in the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

 iPadOS 17

While it was previously reported that the company planned to announce a 15-inch MacBook Air in April with an M2 series chip, the source now claims that Apple will use its latest M3 chip for its new laptops. If Apple does plan to unveil these 2023 MacBooks with the new chip, there is a chance that the launch will take place at Apple’s WWDC event.

Additionally, Apple has long been rumoured to launch its Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) headsets but has yet to announce them. It is speculated that Apple could finally unveil its AR and VR devices at this event, as suggested by the official teaser image showing headset lenses.

However, there is no confirmation of this and users are advised to take the details with a pinch of salt. There is a possibility that Apple could skip the launch of its headset for this event.

 iPadOS 17

Like iPhones, Apple has an operating system designed by Apple specifically for their iPad devices. The OS is optimised for the larger screen and also works well with the powerful hardware of the iPad. However, some of the older iPad might soon lose iPadOS support this year.

According to a report from iPhoneSoft, owners of the first 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will not be able to use the upcoming iPadOS 17. This isn’t new considering that most brands drop software support for older-generation models.

The iPads that are likely to be compatible with iPadOS 17 include

 iPadOS 17

* iPad Air 3rd gen and later
* iPad 6th gen and later
* iPad mini 5th gen and later
* iPad Pro model which was released in 2017 and post that.

The first-generation iPad Pro models are equipped with the A9x chip and the fifth-generation iPad with the A9 chipset. These will remain on iPadOS 16 operating system, according to the report. Apple might be planning on aligning iPadOS with iOS, which also dropped support for the A9 chip when it released iOS 16.

 iPadOS 17

Not just Apple, every tech brand, including Samsung, Google, and others drop support to older generation models keeping in mind the hardware that might not support/handle new features. Apple usually drops support for models when it is about to introduce new features, and leaves them with the previous generation release.

However, these models usually receive updates for security but not at frequent intervals. If reports are to be believed, iOS 17 is said to focus on stability rather than features but it can’t be said for certain. Apple might spring a surprise and introduce a host of new features at the WWDC 2023 conference.

 iPadOS 17

Here are the three iPads that are rumored to be cut off by iPadOS 17:

* iPad 5th gen
* 9.7-inch iPad Pro 1st gen
* 12.9-inch iPad Pro 1st gen

And here are the iPads that are said to keep support with iPadOS 17:

* iPad Air 3rd gen and later
* iPad 6th gen and later
* iPad mini 5th gen and later
* iPad Pro 2017 and later

Another thing to keep in mind, even though iPads from 2017 and on should be compatible with iPadOS 17, older devices generally don’t support all the latest features and capabilities that come with the newest software.

Meanwhile, for iPhone, there are conflicting reports. The first rumor we saw said three iPhones will lose support with iOS 17 while a second rumor said all iPhones that can run iOS 16 will be able to run iOS 17.
