iPhone Smashes Past $1.95 Trillion in Total Lifetime Sales

iPhone Smashes Past $1.95 Trillion in Total Lifetime Sales

Highlights

  • iPhone generates over $1.95 trillion in total sales since 2007.
  • iPhone accounts for 50.64% of Apple’s revenue in the latest quarter.
  • Annual iPhone sales exceeded $101.9 billion by 2014.
  • Incredible customer loyalty drives sustained iPhone dominance.

Apple’s iPhone has crossed a very big new threshold: it has generated over $1.95 trillion in total sales across its life so far.

This is some record that underscores success and popularity right from its launch in 2007.

Though iPhone shipments and revenue in the recent quarter declined a bit compared to the last year’s quarter, long-term sales figures reflect the sustained dominance of the iPhone in the smartphone market over the last 16 years.

iPhone Sales Just Keep Growing

iPhone generates over $1.95 trillion in total sales since 2007

When the iPhone first came out in 2007, few could have predicted just how permanent its impact would be.

But the numbers don’t lie—in only 5 years by 2012, iPhone sales revenue had already reached $78.7 billion.

And it didn’t stop there.

By 2014, iPhone revenues were over $101.9 billion per year.

The pandemic years 2019-2020 took a bit of a speed bump, but the iPhone exploded back to life in 2022 and 2023, where sales were more than $405 billion in just those two years.

In the first half of 2024, iPhone has made Apple $115.6 billion, and its revenues have, in its lifetime, reached the landmark of $1.95 trillion.

iPhones Now Over Half of Apple’s Business

Annual iPhone sales exceeded $101.9 billion by 2014

The sales might of the iPhone is even more obvious when you consider the percentage of Apple’s total revenue that it makes up.

Back in 2009, iPhones were responsible for about 25% of the company’s revenues.

Fast forward to 2024, and that number has doubled – with iPhones now representing a whopping 50.64% of Apple’s revenue in the latest quarter.

Customer Loyalty Drives iPhone Dominance

The Apple iPhone has reached a staggering $1.95 trillion in lifetime sales
The Apple iPhone has reached a staggering $1.95 trillion in lifetime sales

A key reason for the iPhone’s sustained popularity over nearly two decades is incredible customer loyalty.

Studies show half of current iPhone users in the US are \”very unlikely\” to ever switch to another brand.

Compare that to Samsung where 44% feel that loyal, or just 25% for Google’s Pixel phones.

Apple has cultivated an incredibly sticky and devoted user base that keeps coming back to iPhone generation after generation.

Tecno Phantom V2 Flip Leak Shows Upgraded Cover Display and Faster Charging

0

Highlights

  • New rectangular cover display design for better usability
  • Upgraded 4,490mAh battery with 70W fast charging
  • Powered by Dimensity 8050 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage
  • Expected launch towards the end of 2023

Tecno is working on a new version of its foldable flip phone, called the Phantom V2 Flip.

The upcoming model has just appeared at the FCC regulatory body, revealing some key details.

The biggest change seems to be the cover display design.

While the original Phantom V Flip had a circular outer screen, the V2 Flip will feature a more practical rectangular cover display instead.

Phantom V2 Flip (FCC) • Phantom V Flip
Phantom V2 Flip (FCC): Phantom V Flip

A rectangular cover screen makes much more sense on a flip phone.

It allows you to properly view and use different apps, widgets and information at a glance when the phone is folded.

The circular screen on the previous model was quite limited in functionality.

Bigger Battery, Faster Charging

Another improvement spotted in the FCC documents is an upgrade to the battery capacity and charging speeds.

The Phantom V2 Flip will pack a total rated battery capacity of 4,490mAh, split across two cells.

This is a step up from the 4,000mAh battery on the original model.

The V2 Flip will also support faster 70W wired charging, compared to just 45W on its predecessor.

So the new Tecno foldable flip phone should last longer on a single charge and can recharge its bigger battery much quicker as well.

Dimensity 8050 Chip, 8GB RAM

Powered by Dimensity 8050 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage
It is powered by Dimensity 8050 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage

Previous leaks suggest the Phantom V2 Flip will be powered by a Dimensity 8050 chipset from MediaTek.

This should provide ample performance for most users.

The FCC listing also confirms the base model will come with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

This is a decent configuration for a mid-range foldable device.

When Is It Launching?

There’s no official word from Tecno yet on exactly when the Phantom V2 Flip will be unveiled and released.

But with the phone now passing through FCC certification, an announcement could be made in the coming weeks or months.

The first Phantom V Flip launched in late 2022, so we could see this second-gen model arrive around the same time towards the end of 2023.

Apple Confirms 5-Year Software Update Commitment for iPhone 15 Amidst Competition from Google and Samsung

Apple Confirms 5-Year Software Update Commitment for iPhone 15 Amidst Competition from Google and Samsung

Highlights

  • Apple confirms at least 5 years of updates for iPhone 15 models.
  • Google and Samsung offer 7 years of software support for flagship phones.
  • iPhones typically receive around 6 years of updates in practice.
  • Extended update commitments reduce environmental waste.

Apple is usually quite secretive about how many years of updates their iPhone models will get.

But the company revealed this time due to a UK law.

And interestingly, they promise fewer years than Google and Samsung.

At Least 5 Years for New iPhones

Apple Confirms 5-Year Software Update Commitment for iPhone 15 Amidst Competition from Google and Samsung

Now, Apple has confirmed that, as per an official filing, the company is going to deliver at least 5 years of software updates for the new iPhone 15 models that have been launched this year, in 2023.

This is specifically for important security updates that patch vulnerabilities and keep the phones secure.

So the iPhone 15 range is guaranteed to get updates until at least September 2028, as it has been launched in September 2023.

Connectable Devices Statement of Compliance
Connectable Devices Statement of Compliance

Apple might stop support after 5 years.

That’s actually below what a new batch of major Android brands offers.

Both Google and Samsung promise 7 years of software support for their flagship phones.

That’s not just security patches, but full operating system upgrades for 7 years.

Two years more than Apple’s guaranteed minimum.

But iPhones Could Get Updates Longer

Apple's market share in China dropped due to a 19% sales decline in Q1
Apple confirms at least 5 years of updates for iPhone 15 models

That 5-year figure is just the minimum Apple has to provide under UK regulations, however.

In practice, iPhones normally only see software support cut off after a span of 5-6 years.

For example, with the recent release of iOS 17, the still-eligible iPhone XS of 2018 is 5 years old.

ios 17 compatible with List of devices
iOS 17 no longer supports iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X

But the iPhone X from 2017 was cut off.

So in practice, iPhone users often get around 6 years of full updates before being dropped from support.

Not as long as Google and Samsung’s 7 year pledge, but better than Apple’s quoted 5 year minimum.

Android Could Catch Up

iphone-15-084541573-16x9_4
iPhones typically receive around 6 years of updates in practice

Sure, but that seven-year commitment from Google and Samsung isn’t actually so original.

Android makers historically have terribly underperformed when compared to Apple for OS updates.

But with better update commitment from the top brands, someday Android could even start matching or exceeding the actual life of iOS software support.

Longer Lives Are Better

The Ceramic Shield Protection Factor
Extended update commitments reduce environmental waste

At the end of the day, though, 5- to 7-year software support is good news for smartphone users.

It ensures the devices can remain in use without becoming obsolete for years and years before security and functionality become a problem.

Both Apple and Google should be applauded for pursuing this, as it cuts down on environmental waste from frequent device replacement.

Timely software updates are key to giving phones a long, productive lifespan.

Nothing Phone (3) Delayed to 2025 as AI Ambitions Take Centre Stage in New Teaser Video

Highlights

  • Nothing Phone (3) postponed until 2025 to prioritize AI integration.
  • AI-powered home screen launcher dynamically tailors content throughout the day.
  • Upcoming AI voice companion aims to integrate seamlessly with all device functions.
  • ChatGPT integration already available across several Nothing products

Yeah, the hype around AI is inescapable these days, and tech companies are rushing to integrate the buzzworthy technology into their products.

Nothing, the consumer tech brand from Carl Pei, is no exception.

In a video posted today, Pei discussed the company’s AI ambitions while also revealing that the highly anticipated Nothing Phone (3) won’t arrive until 2025.

This isn’t Nothing’s first rodeo with AI though after having announced ChatGPT integration across several of its products as part of the latest Nothing update.

But what is Pei talking about the future?

Nothing’s AI Vision: A “Post-App World”?

The video showcased two main AI concepts Nothing is exploring as it envisions a “post-app world.”

The first is a home screen launcher powered by AI that dynamically populates itself with content tailored to you throughout the day.

The demo included a hodgepodge of quick access points: QR codes for flights, reminders, tweets, weather updates, app shortcuts, and even advertisements.

Riveting stuff.

But the real zinger was Nothing’s idea of an AI voice companion that integrates itself into literally every part of your device experience.

The demo saw the AI grill Pei about his favourite personality characteristics and accents so that it could shape itself into his dream digital companion.

Because who doesn’t want an omnipresent AI sifting through their phone, earbuds, and maybe even their dreams?

In the midst of these revelations about AI, the bombshell was Pei confirming that the Nothing Phone (3) won’t hit the scene until 2025.

The long delay is to give Nothing proper time to deeply integrate AI capabilities in a way that is “useful and brings a smile to people’s faces.”

While the company’s AI ambitions seem high, waiting for a new flagship phone for two years will be like a bitter pill for Nothing fans.

Pei said that the product will have to \”get it right\” by perfectly integrating hardware and AI, and it seems it is going to be a priority over a quick launch.

AI Everywhere: Gimmick or Game-Changer?

With AI hype reaching its peak, all major tech giants are trying to somehow implement the technology, sometimes in an odd way, which is more like a gimmick than something authentic.

The Nothing vision of a pervasive AI assistant invading every nook of your smartphone experience is pretty likely to polarize opinions.

AI, of course, can drastically improve some aspects of our digital lives, but the entire premise of being radically disrupted in how we interact with our devices in favour of a chatty AI buddy seems quite a stretch.

Nothing CEO and Co-Founder Carl Pei Shares Vision for AI and Previews User Interface Design Explorations

In a video posted on his social channels today, Nothing Co-founder and CEO Carl Pei shared his vision for consumer AI while showcasing some initial user interface design explorations.

He also spoke about Nothing Phone (3) coming next year, which will mark a milestone in Nothing’s consumer AI journey with new software and hardware features.

You can watch the full video here, which discusses:

  • Nothing’s belief that the smartphone is the undeniable form factor leading the consumer AI technology revolution.
  • The need to redefine the user interface to enable a highly personalized and dynamic user experience as AI is integrated at a system level across smartphones.
  • The importance of personalization—an AI companion must be relatable and evoke emotion for people to feel comfortable interacting with it frequently.
  • A preview of Nothing’s current initial explorations.
  • Phone (3), launching next year, marking a milestone in Nothing’s consumer AI journey, featuring both software and hardware advancements.

iQOO 13 Leak Suggests Powerful Specs, No ‘Pro’ Variant for Upcoming Flagship

iQOO 13 Leak Suggests Powerful Specs, No 'Pro' Variant for Upcoming Flagship

Highlights

  • iQOO 13 to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for peak performance.
  • Stunning 2K OLED display with ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.
  • Up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage for seamless multitasking and ample data space.
  • 6000mAh battery with 120W fast charging, no ‘Pro’ variant this time.

iQOO is gearing up to launch its latest flagship smartphone series, the iQOO 13 in the coming months.

The sub-brand under Vivo has been associated with strong specs at competitive pricing.

With the upcoming lineup, the brand intends to keep its position in the segment of affordable flagship smartphones.

However, according to a recent leak, it might be changing its strategy completely, as it seems the brand is going to scrap the ‘Pro’ variant altogether.

Up until now, there have been a total of two models released under each numbered flagship series, namely a standard model and an ‘enhanced’ version of the same in the form of a ‘Pro’ model, which comes with the best hardware available.

This time, around instead of separate standard and Pro variants, it looks like there is going to be only one iQOO 13 device.

While detailed specifications of the iQOO 13 were scarce at launch, a prominent leakster has now revealed some key information about the hardware features of this device.

There is speculation that the iQOO 13 will be running on Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset to ensure peak performance and efficiency.

As for the display, the leaked specs point to a stunning flat 2K OLED panel with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.

It leads to a very secure and seamless form of phone unlocking.

This falls in line with a recent focus on iQOO, which tries to bring an amazing multimedia experience to its users via high-resolution displays.

This smartphone is also expected to feature up to a huge 16GB of RAM and 1TB of onboard storage, so users can easily multitask and store a huge amount of data on their devices.

Not to worry, the battery is huge too, standing at 6,000mAh with 120W wired fast charging.

No ‘Pro’ This Time, But Still a Powerhouse

6000mAh battery with 120W fast charging, no 'Pro' variant this time
Its supports 6000mAh battery with 120W fast charging, no ‘Pro’ variant this time

Usually, the ‘Pro’ model in the iQOO lineup represents a small or minor bump up in specs compared to the standard variant.

However, this time, the brand appears to have decided to keep its efforts consolidated into just one top-level one.

Dropping the ‘Pro’ variant is also in line with what iQOO has been doing for the past couple of years.

The Pro models have been kept within the Chinese market, while the other standards have been sent to global markets like India.

Now, with the iQOO 13, it does seem that the brand is going to want a device that is up to snuff with the best of them, yet at the same time being priced modestly against other flagship competitors.

If the leaked specs are anything to go by, the iQOO 13 just might.
