Don’t we all feel thrilled when our favourite apps add the most basic feature after years? Well, it is that time again. Reports say Google Photos is getting the “Flip” or “Mirror” feature for photos and videos, finally!

Google Photos is probably one of the biggest gallery apps on Android. While its popularity can’t be questioned, it has been notoriously lacking features that are very common in third-party photo and video editing apps for ages.

One such surprisingly absent feature from Google Photos is the ability to flip or mirror photos and videos horizontally.

Since now Google has been focused on adding AI-powered tools, it appears the tech company finally decided to add these simplest features.

The Flip and Mirror feature for photos and videos has been available in many apps for a long time including Samsung Gallery.

A Reddit thread on the Google Pixel subreddit highlighted the new feature in a post. Later, the features were also spotted by a Telegram user (via Mishaal Rahman).

As per reports, the new “Flip” or “Mirror” option will be available under the “Crop” section of the app. This section currently only includes options to rotate, resize, scale, and crop content.

Now, with the flip feature, users would be able to easily mirror their photos and videos. It will also allow them to save a copy of the original photo or video as the edit is non-destructive.

The feature, however, might not be useful for everyone. The tool only allows for horizontal mirroring. So, users will have to rotate the photo or video manually to be able to flip it vertically.

Moreover, the feature may not be available for all users immediately. Reports believe it is currently available to only a handful of users and most may not get it even after updating the app to the latest version.

The rollout seems to be a server-side update. This means it could take some time to reach all devices.

In case you are not getting the feature in your Google App now, we suggest you wait as it’s likely coming soon.

FAQs

Although will not be immediately available to all users, the new flip and mirror features are rumoured to be in the “Crop” section of the app.

No, the rollout is gradual via a server-side update, so it may take some time to appear for all users.

How to use the feature Google Photos Flip ?

What is the Google Ask Photos Feature ?

Google initially announced the Ask Photos feature for Google Photos at its annual I/O 2024 developer conference in May.
Google has started rolling out the feature to users in the US. The Ask Photos feature is available on both Android and iOS.

What does Google say about Google Ask Photos Feature ?

“Today, early access to Ask Photos is rolling out to select U.S. users as part of Google Labs. This experimental experience is a step beyond our improved search experience. Using the latest Gemini models, Ask Photos can understand the context of your photo gallery — like the most important people in your life, hobbies or favorite foods — and pull out relevant details to help you find specific memories and uncover information about your life,” said the company in a blog post.

Does Google Photos editing suite need more non-AI features ?

Google Photos doesn’t provide the option to batch edit pictures or create custom presets to quickly apply across multiple images.
There is no lasso tool for making targeted edits to specific areas of an image.
Google has announced Ask Photos in Google Photos to select Labs users for an improved search experience.

The AI tools by google are amazing though .

Samsung’s Galaxy A56 In Development, Expected Launch In Early 2025

0

Highlight

  • Samsung is developing the Galaxy A56.
  • Reports suggest network tests are currently underway.
  • The Galaxy A56 is expected to be unveiled in March 2025
  • More details to follow in the coming months.

Samsung is gearing up for its next Galaxy A series release after the success of Galaxy A35 and A55. A recent report confirms that Galaxy A56 is currently in development. And as of now, it appears that Samsung is conducting network tests for the Galaxy A56.

Smartprix in one of its recent reports confirmed that the Galaxy A56 5G is being tested and is slated for release early next year. The report also confirms that the device has been listed as “Galaxy S56 5G” and will feature a 5G chipset.

This aligns with a few previous reports that hinted that Galaxy A56 will come equipped with the Exynos 1580 processor.

The model number of the Galaxy A56 is confirmed as SM-A566B/DS. This closely follows the same numbering pattern as of its predecessor Galaxy A55, which was listed with model number – SM-A556B/DS.

It also indicates that Samsung is progressing with its usual rounds of testing for its new devices.

Upcoming Galaxy A56 – Expected Features (Rumoured)

image

The Galaxy A56 is expected to be powered by the Exynos 1580 processor. This can be confirmed since it has already been benchmarked and reportedly performs on par with the Snapdragon 888.

The Exynos 1580 has an internal codename “santa.” It is paired with the Xclipse 540 GPU, which is an upgrade from the Exynos 1480 and Xclipse 530 found in the Galaxy A55.

Earlier this year, an X (previously Twitter) user tipped that the Exynos 1580 will most likely feature 4 Cortex-A720 cores and 4 Cortex-A520 cores. Both configurations promise an improved performance.

Samsung is also likely to extend software update support for the Galaxy A56.

Currently, we have limited details about the upcoming device. However, the recent reports of possible network tests suggest the official launch isn’t too far off.

The Galaxy A56 is expected to be unveiled in March 2025. More information on the launch and the device itself is expected to follow in the coming months.

It appears Samsung is sticking to the tried and tested formulas when it comes to the design of the upcoming Galaxy S25 Series. The latest leaked renders of Galaxy S25 Plus hint at a design too similar to its predecessors.

In a report, Android Headlines has revealed renders of the upcoming Galaxy S25 Plus. The renders show that the Galaxy S25 Plus looks nearly identical to the Galaxy S24 Plus.

It doesn’t end there. It is now being said that the entire upcoming S25 lineup will likely look similar to the Galaxy S24 series.

Galaxy S25 Plus Details (Rumoured)

As per the leaks, the Galaxy S25 Plus will measure 158.4 x 75.7 x 7.3mm. If true, this will make it thinner than the S24 Plus.

However, the display is expected to remain the same size.

Another report from GalaxyClub further confirms that there would not be any upgrade in the battery sizes of the upcoming Galaxy S25 series.

While the Galaxy S25 will come with a 4,000mAh battery, the S25 Plus will reportedly feature a 4,900mAh battery.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra, on the other hand, will most likely have a 5,000mAh battery, which is similar to the S24 series.

With no battery upgrade, Samsung will fall behind competitors such as the OnePlus 12, vivo X100 Pro, ASUS ROG Phone 8, and HONOR Magic 6 Pro. All these devices offer batteries larger than 5,400mAh. And then their the OnePlus 13, which is rumoured to get a massive 6,000mAh battery.

What’s interesting to note is how Samsung has been making the phones thinner while still maintaining the battery sizes.

The Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are expected to launch in January 2025.

Among other things, speculations are also rife that all three models will likely be powered by Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. Some contradictory reports suggest Samsung might stick with a mix of Snapdragon and Exynos processors.

The processors could be different in different regions for the S25 and S25 Plus.

Sony to Work With AMD Again for PS6 Chip After Talks With Intel Fails

0

Highlights

  • After talks with Intel failed, Sony signed a contract with AMD for the PS6 chips.
  • This continues the Sony-AMD partnership after the PS5 and PS5 Pro.
  • Sony reportedly prioritising backward compatibility for the next PlayStation as well.

While the gaming community is still debating the high price tag of the recently launched PS5 Pro, the rumour mill has moved on to the PlayStation 6 (PS6). Multiple rumours have started about a possible Sony-Intel collab breakdown leading to Sony-AMD finally signing papers.

According to a recent report by Reuters, Intel was in talks with Sony to get into designing the chips for the PS6. The tech giant eventually lost the contract to AMD.

Reports suggest that both Intel and AMD reached the final stage of signing contracts with Sony.

AMD, however, secured the deal. AMD has earlier produced custom chips for the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

The report also highlights how this contract would have been a significant step for Intel, as the company has been looking forward to expanding its contract manufacturing business.

The contract “would have amounted to billions of dollars of revenue and fabricating thousands of silicon wafers a month,” two sources revealed while speaking to Reuters.

According to the report, several factors played a part in Sony finally moving ahead with AMD once again. Other than disagreements over profit-sharing with Intel, Sony prioritising backward compatibility is another reason.

It is being said that Intel and Sony engineering raised concerns that a new Intel chipset might complicate things with backward compatibility for PlayStation. It would also reportedly increase the cost and engineering work to ensure older games run on the new hardware.

Backward compatibility is something Sony has kept their focus on for a while now. It allows gamers to easily play older PlayStation titles on newer consoles.

The PS5 supports most PS4 games. It also offers a library of classic PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. This is done via the PlayStation Plus subscription service.

Intel has denied this characterisation.

An Intel spokesperson stated, “We strongly disagree with this characterisation but are not going to comment about any current or potential customer conversations.

“We have a very healthy customer pipeline across our product and foundry businesses, and we are squarely focused on innovating to meet their needs,” the Intel spokesperson further revealed.

As of now, there are no official details about PS6 or any other development at Sony. However, it seems the brand is prioritising backward compatibility again for the next-generation console.

FAQs

Why did Sony choose AMD over Intel for the PS6 chips?

Sony chose AMD over Intel due to concerns about backward compatibility and disagreements over profit-sharing with Intel.

Did Intel comment on losing the PS6 chip contract to AMD?

Answer. Intel disagreed with the characterization of the situation but did not comment on specific customer conversations, emphasizing their focus on innovation. An Intel spokesperson stated, “We strongly disagree with this characterisation but are not going to comment about any current or potential customer conversations.

Why backward compatibility is important for Sony’s PlayStation?

Answer. Backward compatibility is crucial for Sony, allowing gamers to play older PlayStation titles on newer consoles, which influenced their decision to partner with AMD again.
