Instagram Rolls Out New Blend Feature – A Personalised Reels Feed for You and Your Friends

0

Highlights

  • Instagram Blend allows users to create personalised Reels feeds with friends or group chats.
  • It aims to reconnect users with Instagram’s social roots, encouraging shared exploration of content and easier discussions through DMs.
  • It is an invite-only feature and is currently rolling out in select countries.

It looks like Instagram is on a roll of finding creative ways to boost the engagement of reels. Meta’s popular social media app is rolling out a fun new feature called Blend, which lets you and your friends create a personalised Reels feed to enjoy together. Here’s all we know.

What Is Instagram’s New Blend Feature?

Instagram Blend is all about sharing content with the people you talk to most. It’s invite-only and you can create one with just a single friend or a whole group chat. Once you’re in, you’ll get a custom Reels feed that updates daily with videos picked based on everyone’s interests.

The idea is to explore what your friends are into and discover new content together, all while keeping the conversation going in the DMs. When someone reacts to a Reel in the Blend, Instagram will let the rest of the group know, making it easier to chat about it in your messages.

As Instagram puts it, this feature is meant to bring the platform “closer to its roots of sharing moments with friends,” something that’s been a bit lost over time with the rise of influencers and ads.

The feature was discovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi for first time last year. Paluzzi even posted his finding on X (formerly Twitter).

This feature isn’t available on TikTok, so it’s a unique move by Instagram to boost Reels discovery and keep people watching content together. However, if the name sounds familiar, that’s because Spotify already has a feature called Blend. It works similarly, combining the music tastes of two or more users into a shared playlist that refreshes daily.

Instagram’s Blend takes that same shared experience concept and applies it to short-form video, giving Reels a more social and personal touch.

How to Start Using Instagram’s Blend Feature?

Here’s how you can start using the Blend feature on your Instagram account.

image

Caption – Instagram’s new Blend feature. (Image credit – Instagram)

  • Open a one-on-one or group DM chat.
  • Tap the new Blend icon at the top.
  • Hit “Invite” to ask your chat buddies to join.
  • Once at least one person accepts, your Blend is good to go!

You can revisit it anytime by going back to the same DM chat and tapping the Blend icon again. The feature is currently rolling out in select countries.

FAQs

Q1. What is Instagram’s Blend feature?

Answer. Instagram Blend is an invite-only feature that allows users to create personalised Reels feeds with friends or group chats, updated daily based on shared interests.

Q2. How does Blend bring users closer to Instagram’s social roots?

Answer. Blend encourages shared exploration of content, making it easier for users to discover new videos together and discuss them in direct messages.

Q3. How can users activate the Blend feature on Instagram?

Answer. Users can open a DM chat, tap the Blend icon, send invites to friends or group members, and start their personalised Reels feed once someone accepts the invitation.

Apple Is Assembling iPhone 16e in Brazil to Cut Back on China Production: Report

0

Highlights

  • Apple has begun assembling the iPhone 16e in Brazil from the start to diversify production away from China.
  • Local production helps Apple mitigate US-China tariff impacts with Brazilian-made iPhones priced lower due to likely tariff exemptions.
  • Apple collaborates with Foxconn to expand manufacturing in Brazil and leverage lower tariffs (10%) on imports to the US.

It is no news that Apple has been focusing on diversifying its production bases for a while now. And now new report reveals that Apple is already building the iPhone 16e in Brazil as part of its efforts to move some of its production out of China. The shift comes amid the ongoing US-China trade tensions with high import tariffs making things trickier for companies like Apple. Here’s what we know.

iPhone 16e Production Begins in Brazil

According to an international publication named MacMagazine, Apple has been assembling the iPhone 16e in Brazil since the very beginning. While Apple has produced iPhones in Brazil before, it usually took a few months after the launch of a new model to start local assembly but they didn’t wait this time.

Customers in Brazil who bought the iPhone 16e noticed a label on the box that reads, “Assembled in Brazil – Brazilian Industry.”

Caption – iPhone 16e Made in Brazil box and confirmation certificate. (Image credit – MacMagazine)

Apple also confirms this on its official Brazilian store, where the purchase URL for the iPhone 16e includes a model number ending in “BR/A”, the code for products made in Brazil. Imported models carry the “BE/A” label instead.

Anatel, Brazil’s telecom regulator, also confirms that the iPhone 16e is being assembled in Brazil, as well as in China and India.

Pricing and Tariffs

In Brazil, the iPhone 16e is priced at around $890. But thanks to local production and likely tariff exemptions, it’s already selling for as low as $670 at some retailers. For comparison, the same model starts at $600 in the US.

Apple’s decision to ramp up production in Brazil is closely tied to growing tariff concerns. The company is reportedly working with Foxconn to expand its manufacturing facilities in Brazil, hoping to avoid steep US import taxes on devices made in China.

Even though the US government recently made some exceptions to Trump-era tariffs, a new White House document suggests that Chinese products could still face tariffs as high as 245%. China has responded with its own tariff increases on American goods.

Meanwhile, goods imported from Brazil are only hit with a 10% tariff, which is much less than what products from China might face. That’s why Apple sees Brazil as a smart alternative for iPhone production. Reports also say Apple flew in multiple shipments of iPhones and other gear from India and China before the new tariffs kicked in.

FAQs

Q1. Why is Apple assembling the iPhone 16e in Brazil?

Answer. Apple is assembling the iPhone 16e in Brazil to reduce reliance on China for production, driven by US-China trade tensions and high import tariffs.

Q2. What benefits does local production in Brazil offer Apple?

Answer. Local production in Brazil allows Apple to avoid steep tariffs, enabling lower pricing for Brazilian-made iPhones and minimizing costs for exports to the US.

Q3. Is the iPhone 16e being assembled exclusively in Brazil?

Answer. No, the iPhone 16e is also being assembled in China and India, as confirmed by Brazil’s telecom regulator, Anatel.

  • WhatsApp now allows users to create and organise custom sticker packs within the app.
  • Stickers can be stored in separate folders, making them easier to find and use.
  • New tools include group chat indicators showing online members, the ability to scan/send documents directly and setting WhatsApp as the default messaging and calling app on iPhones.

WhatsApp Making Sticker Creation Simpler

image

Until now, you could make and save custom stickers on WhatsApp, but it wasn’t exactly easy to find and send them, especially if you had a lot stored. That’s changing with the latest update.

You can now create sticker packs and organise your stickers into different folders. Even better, you can share an entire sticker pack with someone in one go, instead of sending stickers one by one.

A WhatsApp spokesperson told 9to5Mac, “Whether it’s a pack of stickers of your dog, or hilarious selfies of your closest friends, now you can make your chats more fun and personal, with sticker packs that are unique to you. Earlier this year we announced sticker pack sharing, so now you can create and share your very own sticker packs with your friends and family in-chat.”

WhatsApp Rolling Out More Handy Features

WhatsApp has also rolled out some other new tools recently. There’s now an indicator that shows how many people are online in a group chat. You can also scan and send documents directly and even set WhatsApp as the default calling and messaging app on your iPhone.

First reported by WhatsApp Beta source WABetaInfo, the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS enables support for the option to choose default apps. When users select the new app as their default, it is used for related actions. If you select a phone number, the iPhone will automatically use WhatsApp to call it instead of using the iOS Phone app.

FAQs

Q1. What new feature has WhatsApp introduced for stickers?

Answer. WhatsApp now allows users to create and manage custom sticker packs directly within the app, organize them into folders, and share entire sticker packs in one go.

Q2. Can I personalise my chats with unique stickers?

Answer. Yes, WhatsApp enables users to create personalized sticker packs, such as those featuring pets or funny selfies, to make chats more fun and personal.

Q3. What other new tools has WhatsApp rolled out recently?

Answer. WhatsApp has introduced features like group chat indicators showing online members, the ability to scan and send documents directly, and the option to set it as the default messaging and calling app on iPhones.

  • The device supports 120FPS BGMI gaming, boasts slimmer bezels, a textured finish and maintains customisable elements like the screw mount.

CMF, the sub-brand of Nothing, is all set to launch its first Pro model named CMF Phone 2 Pro on April 28. And thanks to a new teaser on Flipkart, we now know it’ll be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro chipset.

CMF Phone 2 Pro – MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro (Confirmed)

Compared to the CMF Phone 1, which uses the standard Dimensity 7300, the 7300 Pro offers a small bump in performance. Flipkart claims a 10% CPU boost and a 5% GPU improvement. It’s not a huge leap, so some might feel the “Pro” label is a bit generous. Still, these upgrades should make everyday performance smoother.

image

But here’s something that might excite gamers. Nothing says the CMF Phone 2 Pro can run BGMI at 120FPS. That’s a big win for anyone into mobile gaming.

The phone has also appeared on Geekbench 6.4.0, scoring just over 1000 in single-core and around 3000 in multi-core tests. It also comes with a 6th-gen MediaTek NPU, capable of 4.8 TOPS (trillion operations per second), although it’s still unclear how this compares to the NPU in the regular 7300.

CMF Phone 2 Pro – Design Details

image

Caption – CMF Phone 2 Pro display hints. (Image credit – Nothing)

The Phone 2 Pro keeps the flat sides and seems to have slimmer front bezels than the previous model. The bottom bezel hasn’t been shown yet, but Nothing teased a bit of the display earlier this week.

image

The company is also talking up the phone’s look, calling it “Ultra-slim, Ultra-light, Ultra-sleek.”

image

Another teaser revealed a textured, tactile finish, showing a close-up of a sleek corner with a visible screw, a nod to CMF’s customisable design style as seen on the Phone 1.

As per earlier leaks, the customisable back cover and screw mount used for attaching a lanyard or other accessories are expected to stay. The screen size is said to be around 6.3 inches, which is slightly smaller than the 6.67-inch panel on the original Nothing Phone (1).

Apple introduced Apple Intelligence with iOS 18, and it’s been available to users since the release of iOS 18.1 last October. While most apps automatically support Apple Intelligence features, developers can choose to disable them and it looks like Meta has done exactly that.

No Apple Intelligence in Meta’s iOS Apps

According to a report from Brazilian blog Sorcererhat Tech, Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools that help users write, edit and proofread text aren’t available in Meta apps on iOS. This includes Facebook, WhatsApp and Threads.

iPhone and iPad users usually can tap on a text field to bring up Writing Tools, but that option is missing in Meta’s iOS apps.

Meta has also blocked the ability to use Genmoji, Apple’s AI-generated custom emojis. On top of that, keyboard stickers and Memoji can no longer be added to Instagram Stories, even though they were previously supported.

Meta hasn’t explained why it’s blocking these Apple Intelligence features, but the likely reason is to push users toward its own AI platform Meta AI. Meta AI is available across most of its apps and offers similar features, like writing help and image generation.

A report from The Wall Street Journal last year mentioned that Apple and Meta were in talks about bringing Meta’s AI model Llama to Apple Intelligence. 9to5Mac, in its report, revealed, “This integration would likely be similar to the deal Apple has struck with ChatGPT, which is currently the only third-party partner for Apple Intelligence. While Apple’s own on-device and cloud models power most Apple Intelligence functionality, the company is willing to help user requests about ‘world knowledge’ be transferred to a third party AI model.”

However, Apple since then has reportedly backed out of the deal due to concerns about Meta’s privacy policies. The two companies have also clashed before over App Store rules.

So for now, iOS users won’t be able to use Apple Intelligence in some of the most popular apps out there including Meta’s biggest platforms.

Rockstar Games has been at work for years on what’s easily one of the most anticipated games ever – Grand Theft Auto 6. Its first trailer dropped at the end of 2023 and smashed multiple world records. But so far, Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the exact launch date for the game.

The wait for the game has turned into a popular meme online while we are all waiting. But not to give everyone any hope, a new leak might have given us a clue about when GTA 6 could finally arrive. Here’s what we know.

So, when is GTA 6 launching?

The only official word we’ve had is that GTA 6 is set to release sometime in Autumn 2025. But that’s a pretty wide window. Thanks to a fresh leak, we might now be able to narrow it down a bit.

Here’s what happened – Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive is also working on another game called Mafia: The Old Country. Its launch date was recently leaked on Steam, a popular online gaming platform. According to the leak, Mafia: The Old Country is expected to release on August 8, 2025.

Now, this is where things get interesting. Big-budget games (AAA titles) usually try not to launch too close to each other to avoid competing for attention and sales. In September 2025, both Borderlands 4 and NBA 2K26 are set to drop. So, with August and September already looking packed, October or November starts to look like the most likely launch window for GTA 6.

That timing would make sense as it fits the official Autumn 2025 window, gives GTA 6 plenty of space to dominate the holiday season, and also makes it eligible for The Game Awards, which typically happen in December.

Of course, nothing’s confirmed yet and all of this is still speculation for now. But if the leak is anything to go by, we might be playing GTA 6 sooner than expected.
