Amazon India’s Head of Consumer Electronics and Former CEO of its largest seller Cloudtail, Ranjit Babu has stepped down in a major leadership churn. Babu’s resignation follows a string of senior-level departures including that of former India head Manish Tiwary.

Babu has been a key figure at Amazon India for over a decade and has held key roles in top-performing categories. His stint at Cloudtail played a vital role in shaping Amazon’s success in India.

In December 2022, Babu took on additional responsibilities after senior executive Noor Patel moved to Amazon US. By July 2023, he was promoted to head the consumer electronics division and was overseeing high-revenue categories like smartphones.

“He has resigned and is moving on,” a source was quoted in the Economic Times report.

Amazon declined to comment on his departure.

Babu’s resignation comes amid a broader restructuring effort. A company veteran Samir Kumar has stepped into the role of India head after Tiwary’s exit. Other senior executives including Gaurav Arora and Suresh John have also left the organisation recently.

Tiwary’s departure came when analysts suggested Amazon India has been losing market share in key categories to competitor Flipkart. In response, Amazon is working to mark its position in core e-commerce and enter the fast-growing quick-commerce sector as well.

The company is expected to launch its quick commerce platform codenamed Tez by January.

Despite leadership changes, Amazon Seller Services the Indian marketplace arm reported a 14% increase in operating revenue to ₹25,406 crore for the last financial year. Net losses were reduced by 28% to ₹3,469 crore.

However, the revenue growth of 3% in FY23 lags behind the 32% and 49% seen during FY22 and FY21, respectively.

The bulk of Amazon’s revenue in India comes from third-party seller services subscriptions like Amazon Prime and advertising. The company also earns royalties from licensing digital content. In FY24, Amazon Seller Services received a ₹830 crore fund infusion from its parent company, followed by an additional ₹1,660 crore in FY25.

Meanwhile, Amazon India’s logistics, payments and wholesale divisions posted moderate revenue growth of 7-11% in FY24 along with slight reductions in losses.

With senior leadership shifts and intensified competition, Amazon India’s future strategies including its upcoming quick commerce launch will be crucial in maintaining its position in the market.

Bomb threats sent to nearly 40 schools across Delhi caused panic and led to evacuations. Prestigious schools like DPS RK Puram, DPS Vasant Kunj, GD Goenka Paschim Vihar, The British School and several DAV schools were targeted via emails received late Sunday night.

Delhi Police confirmed, “Two schools in Delhi received bomb threats via e-mail—one in RK Puram and another one in Paschim Vihar. School administrations have sent children back to their homes. Fire and police informed.”

The threatening email reportedly read, “I planted multiple bombs inside (school) buildings. The bombs are small and hidden very well. While they won’t cause significant damage to the buildings, they will injure many people when detonated. If I do not receive $30,000, I will detonate the bombs,” according to ANI.

The first alert came from GD Goenka Paschim Vihar at 6:15 am, followed by DPS RK Puram at 7 am. The emails sent at 11:38 pm on Sunday claimed that bombs were planted on school premises.

The Delhi Police, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) and fire department teams quickly responded, conducting thorough searches at all affected schools. While no suspicious items have been found so far, students and staff were evacuated as a precaution. Schools remain temporarily closed as investigations continue. Cybercrime teams are working to trace the source of the emails.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi expressed her concerns on social media, criticizing the central government. She wrote, “After the daily incidents of ransom, murders, firing in Delhi, now threats of bombing of schools are being received. The law and order situation in Delhi has never been so bad before. The BJP-ruled central government has failed in its only task of providing security to the people of Delhi.”

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal also criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying, “The people of Delhi have never seen such a bad state of law and order in Delhi before. Amit Shah ji should come and answer the people of Delhi.”

This isn’t the first time Delhi has faced such incidents. In May, over 100 schools received bomb threats that turned out to be hoaxes. Similar threats were later made to Delhi airport, hospitals, and malls. In August, more than 100 hospitals and shopping centres were targeted, with all threats proving false.

The recent threats have disrupted school operations and heightened concerns about safety, but authorities remain vigilant to ensure public security.

Answer. Nearly 40 schools in Delhi, including DPS RK Puram, DPS Vasant Kunj, GD Goenka Paschim Vihar, The British School and several other DAV schools were targeted by bomb threats sent via email.

Apple To Team Up With Sony to Boost VR Gaming on Apple Vision Pro

  • Apple is working with Sony to make the Vision Pro headset more gaming compatible.
  • It is also planning on getting support for VR game controllers and PlayStation VR2 hand controllers.
  • Currently, the Vision Pro supports traditional gaming controllers.

Apple is serious about the future of Apple Vision Pro despite low sales numbers and the many industry naysayers. Recent reports suggest the company is working with Sony to make the Vision Pro headset more gaming compatible.

According to Bloomberg’s Apple reporter Mark Gurman, Apple plans to support standard VR game controllers on the Vision Pro to make it more appealing for gamers.

In his recent Power On newsletter, Gurman notes that gaming is not currently the Vision Pro’s strong suit. However, the company is doing everything possible to change that for future versions.

Gurman writes, “Apple is now working on a major effort to support third-party hand controllers in the device’s visionOS software and has teamed up with Sony Group Corp. to make it happen.”

While there’s no specific timeline, a future update to visionOS is expected to add this support.

Moreover, Apple is reportedly also looking at the Sony collaboration as a means to bring PlayStation VR2 controllers to the Vision Pro.

image
Apple will reportedly launch support for the PlayStation VR2’s hand controllers on the Vision Pro. (Image credit – Sony)

Gurman shared, “Apple approached Sony earlier this year, and the duo agreed to work together on launching support for the PlayStation VR2’s hand controllers on the Vision Pro. Inside Sony, the work has been a monthslong undertaking, I’m told. And Apple has discussed the plan with third-party developers, asking them if they’d integrate support into their games.”

However, the collaboration has faced delays.

Apple and Sony initially aimed to announce this feature last month but it was postponed. Gurman suggests the feature is still on track unless plans are abruptly shelved.

Apple also explored a different kind of input device, prototyping a “wand” similar to an Apple Pencil for precise controls.

Currently, the Vision Pro supports traditional gaming controllers from Xbox and PlayStation for Apple Arcade games.

However, it doesn’t support standard VR controllers, limiting its ability to handle most VR games.

Sales of the Vision Pro have been underwhelming so far with “fewer than half a million units” sold. Many users are reportedly using the headset less frequently than Apple anticipated. So, adding better VR gaming support could help improve adoption and sales.

As we mentioned in the beginning, Apple remains committed to the Vision Pro despite many challenges.

 FAQs

Q1. What is Apple doing to make the Vision Pro headset more gaming compatible?

Answer. Apple is working with Sony to support standard VR game controllers on the Vision Pro and plans to bring PlayStation VR2 hand controllers to the headset.

Q2. Has the collaboration between Apple and Sony faced any challenges?

Answer. Yes, the collaboration has faced delays, but Apple remains committed to adding better VR gaming support to boost the adoption and sales of the Vision Pro.

Q3. What is the current support for gaming controllers on the Vision Pro?

Answer. Currently, the Vision Pro supports traditional gaming controllers from Xbox and PlayStation for Apple Arcade games but doesn’t support standard VR controllers.

Apple is set to debut its in-house cellular modem in select Apple devices by 2025. After spending over five years developing the tech, many tech experts look at this advancement as a major milestone. However, early reports suggest the first-generation modem codenamed Sinope won’t be able to match the performance of Qualcomm’s chips currently used in iPhones just as yet.

Bloomberg’s Apple reporter Mark Gurman, in one of his recent reports, highlights that Apple modem is “not as advanced” as Qualcomm’s latest offerings.

Apple’s 2025 In-House Modem

Gurman writes, “Sinope [modem’s codename] isn’t as advanced as the latest modems from San Diego-based Qualcomm, meaning the first Apple modem is a downgrade from the component currently in the iPhone 16 Pro.”

“Unlike today’s high-end Qualcomm parts, the Sinope modem won’t support mmWave, a type of 5G technology used by Verizon Wireless and other carriers, primarily in major cities, that can theoretically handle download speeds of as much as 10 gigabits per second. Instead, the Apple component will rely on the Sub-6 standard, a more prevalent technology used by the current iPhone SE,” he further adds.

The first Apple 5G modem will reportedly debut in two iPhone models iPhone SE 4 in spring 2025 and the iPhone 17 Air in fall 2025.

Moreover, we may also get to see some low-end iPads feature the modem later in the year. The iPhone SE 4 will have a new design with an edge-to-edge screen and support for Apple Intelligence apart from the new modem.

Gurman, in his report, also shares some details of the first Apple model expected to be used in the 2025 Apple devices. He writes, “The first Apple modem will also only support four-carrier aggregation, a technology that combines bands from several wireless providers simultaneously to increase network capacity and speeds. Modems from Qualcomm can support six or more carriers at the same time. In lab tests, the first Apple modem caps out at download speeds of about 4 gigabits per second, less than the top speeds offered by non-mmWave Qualcomm modems.”

Apple In-House Modem – Future Upgrades in 2026 and 2027

However, Gurman also specifies that Apple has bigger plans for its modem technology.

  • 2026 Modem – Expected to be part of the iPhone 18 lineup and high-end iPads, it will feature significant advancements, including mmWave support, download speeds of up to 6Gbps and advanced carrier aggregation capabilities.
  • 2027 Modem – Apple aims to surpass Qualcomm with a third-generation modem featuring built-in satellite support and enhanced overall performance.

While the first-generation modem might not rival Qualcomm’s chips, it appears Apple has long-term plans in place. The Cupertino giant is riding on hopes that it delivers a modem that not only matches but potentially outperforms competitors by 2027.
