Google is now rolling out its new Veo 2 video generation model to the Gemini app. This AI model can create short videos just from text prompts, and is available on both the web and mobile versions of Gemini.

As of now, it’s not available to users on the free plan and only Gemini Advanced (paid) users can get the update.

Veo 2 is the upgraded version of Google’s earlier Veo AI, and was first introduced in December 2024. It also powers YouTube’s Dream Screen feature and is available through Vertex AI, Google’s cloud-based AI platform.

With Veo 2, Gemini Advanced users can generate 8-second-long videos just by typing a prompt in natural language. The videos are created in 720p resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and they can be downloaded in MP4 format. You can also find Veo 2 in the model picker menu inside Gemini.

Google says this feature is being rolled out globally in all languages supported by Gemini, but it might take a few weeks for everyone to get access. There’s also a monthly cap on how many videos you can generate and Google will notify you if you’re getting close to that limit.

Sharing is made easy too. You can tap the share button in the Gemini app to upload videos directly to platforms like TikTok and YouTube.

When Veo 2 was launched, Google said the model had better realism and detail compared to the first version. It also understands cinematic language, so you can mention things like camera angles, lenses or effects, and it will try to reflect those in the video.

Google also mentioned that Veo 2 is trained to hallucinate less, which means it’s less likely to generate odd visuals like extra fingers or distorted body parts. This makes the videos feel more natural and accurate overall.

Google also shared some demo videos with prompts used to generate them.

Prompt“A wide, slow-panning shot of an enormous glacial cavern, bathed in eerie twilight. Pale cyan light filters from above, illuminating frozen candy figures within the ice walls. Two figures in white exosuits, their helmet lights casting beams, trudge through the center. Capture the cavern’s scale and stillness.”

Prompt – “An animated shot of a tiny mouse with oversized glasses, reading a book by the light of a glowing mushroom in a cozy forest den.”

Prompt – “Aerial shot of a grassy cliff onto a sandy beach where waves crash against the shore, a prominent sea stack rises from the ocean near the beach, bathed in the warm, golden light of either sunrise or sunset, capturing the serene beauty of the Pacific coastline.”

Prompt – “Time-lapse of a voxel-style ice cream melting under a clear blue sky. The pink, grey, and white scoops slowly lose their shape, dripping down the yellow, blocky cone held by a large, voxel hand with a blue sleeve. Focus on the melting process, highlighting the changing texture and form of the voxel elements as the ice cream deforms and drips, creating a colorful, pixelated melt against the vibrant blue backdrop.”

Google Search to Redirect All Country Domains to Google.com Globally

0

Highlights

  • Google will redirect all country-specific domains (e.g., google.co.in, google.fr) to google.com globally.
  • Search results will remain tailored to the user’s location, ensuring local content complies with laws and preferences.
  • The update is rolling out worldwide over the next few months.

image

Google is making a big change to how people access its Search service across the world. Until now, users in different countries were taken to their local versions of Google like google.co.uk in the UK, google.fr in France, or google.co.in in India. These country-specific domains have been around for years to offer more localised search results. But that’s about to change. Here’s what we know.

Google Search Switching To Google․com

Google has announced in a blog post that it will start phasing out these country-coded domains and instead redirect everyone to google.com, no matter where they are. The idea is to simplify the experience while still showing results that are relevant to your current location.

This update might sound new, but it’s actually been in motion for a while. Since 2017, Google has already been using your real-time location to show local results even if you were using Google.com instead of a local domain. So now, the company is just aligning the website address with that same logic. One domain for everyone.

Does This Change How Google Works?

It’s important to note that this won’t change how Search works. You’ll still see results based on where you are. So if you’re in Japan, you’ll continue to see Japanese results, and if you’re in Brazil, your results will reflect that location. The only thing that might change is if you had custom settings like language or region preferences you might need to reconfigure those.

Google also made it clear that this update won’t impact how it handles content based on local laws or legal requirements. Even though the URL will be the same for everyone, the content will still be tailored to your location.

The company says the move will help create a simpler and unified user experience. With mobile and AI tools playing a bigger role in Search, Google believes the actual domain name isn’t as important anymore because your location data already does most of the work when it comes to showing you the right content.

Rollout Timeline

The shift is being rolled out gradually, so users around the world will start seeing this change over the next few months. Once it’s fully in place, if you type a local Google domain like google.ca or google.com.au, you’ll be automatically redirected to google.com.

FAQs

Q1. Why is Google redirecting all country-specific domains to Google.com?

Answer. Google aims to simplify the search experience globally while retaining location-based results tailored to users’ current locations.

Q2. Will the redirect to Google.com affect local search results or content compliance?

Answer. No, search results will remain localised based on real-time location and comply with regional laws, even with the unified domain.

Q3. When will the changes to Google Search domains be implemented?

Answer. The update is being gradually rolled out globally over the next few months, automatically redirecting users from local domains to Google.com.

It has already been widely reported that Apple might finally jump into the foldable phone game next year with the launch of its first foldable iPhone. It is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 lineup and rumours have hinted on a few details as of now.

The device is rumoured to feature a 5.5-inch outer display and a larger 7.8-inch inner display with a near 4:3 aspect ratio. And it appears one of Apple’s main goals is to reduce or eliminate the screen crease that’s often seen in other foldables.

iPhone Fold Rumoured Price

Now, according to a new leak from tipster Instant Digital on Weibo, Apple’s foldable iPhone could be priced between $2100 and $2300. That’s a bit higher than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6, which currently starts at $1899.99. Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold is even cheaper, starting at $1799.

This new price range lines up with what well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted. Kuo said, “Based on the iPhone’s profit margin, the iPhone foldable screen is estimated to start at between US$2,100 and US$2,300, not much more expensive than Samsung’s.”

Even though it’s on the pricier side, the foldable iPhone could play a big role in helping Apple bounce back from recent drops in sales. Analysts believe the 2026 version could be a turning point for the company.

Samsung Might Be Key to Apple’s Foldable Plans

One of the main reasons Apple hasn’t released a foldable phone yet is due to concerns about the noticeable crease that appears on most foldable screens. Earlier this year, reports suggested that Samsung had managed to meet Apple’s high standards for display quality.

Now, a new report from BusinessKorea confirms this, saying that while Samsung has nailed it, Apple’s other display suppliers including LG and BOE haven’t hit the mark yet. This means Samsung currently has the exclusive display contract for the foldable iPhone.

The report reads, Apple has decided to equip its first foldable iPhone, set for release in the latter half of next year, exclusively with OLED panels from Samsung Display. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the industry as Samsung Display will be the sole supplier, excluding LG Display and Chinese BOE panels.”

“The move underscores Samsung’s technological edge in minimizing screen creases, a critical factor in foldable phone design […] For Apple, which prioritizes quality over price when selecting component suppliers, Samsung was the only viable choice,” noted an industry insider,” added the report.

This aligns with an earlier ETNews report that suggested that Samsung has managed to produce display samples meeting Apple’s requirements. It confirmed, “The solution was said to have been achieved through close cooperation between Samsung and Apple hinge supplier Amphenol. The company currently makes MacBook hinges.”

iPhone Fold Might Feature Under-Screen Camera Tech

There is also some buzz around the possibility of an under-screen camera in the iPhone Fold. While it’s technically possible to place the front camera under the display, current implementations have quality issues. Most expect Apple to embed Face ID under the display first, something a recent patent hints they’re working on. The patent was spotted by Patently Apple and it describes a much simpler and reliable way of achieving the goal, which would be to remove some subpixels.

“A subset of all display subpixels in the pixel removal region may be removed by iteratively eliminating the nearest neighboring subpixels of the same color,” the document reads.

In any case, Leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS) initially claimed the foldable iPhone might have “under-screen camera technology” for the inner screen with a punch-hole camera on the outer one. DCS wrote, “Here is a heavyweight exclusive information, Apple folding screen. Inner screen [has] under-screen camera technology.”

However, it’s still unclear whether this means an actual under-display camera or embedded Face ID. In a follow-up post, DCS added, Apple’s folding screen is an internal screen test under-screen camera, which is likely not to have 3D face components. The next two generations of iPhones are still in the form of digging holes.”

So, this might just be an early test and not something that’ll make it into the final product. Ming-Chi Kuo had earlier said Apple might go with Touch ID instead of Face ID for the foldable model, since there might not be enough space to pack in the full Face ID tech.

DCS also shared what they claim are the exact screen sizes and resolutions:

  • Inner screen: 7.76 inches, 2713×1920 resolution, with under-screen camera tech
  • Outer screen: 5.49 inches, 2088×1422 resolution, punch-hole design

These numbers match previous reports from Kuo, who said the device would feature a 5.5-inch outer and 7.8-inch inner display.

OpenAI Might Be Building Its Own AI-Powered Social Network

0

Highlights

  • OpenAI is reportedly working on an AI-powered social network, possibly integrated with ChatGPT.
  • If launched, this could be the first social network built with AI at its core and will put OpenAI in competition with platforms like Meta’s and Elon Musk’s X.
  • The social network could provide OpenAI with valuable real-time data to train its AI models.

ChatGPT recently overtook TikTok and Instagram to become the most downloaded app in the world. That timing definitely stands out because it looks like we may soon have another social media network in the playing field.

If the recept reports are of any indication, OpenAI could soon become more than just the company behind ChatGPT. According to a new report from The Verge report, the company is working on its own social network. Here’s what we know so far.

As reported by Kylie Robison and Alex Heath at The Verge, OpenAI is working on its own X-like social network, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. While the project is still in early stages, we’re told there’s an internal prototype focused on ChatGPT’s image generation that has a social feed. CEO Sam Altman has been privately asking outsiders for feedback about the project, our sources say. It’s unclear if OpenAI’s plan is to release the social network as a separate app or integrate it into ChatGPT, which became the most downloaded app globally last month.”

Right now, there aren’t many details available. But one of the ideas behind the new social app is that AI could “help people share better content,” similar to how Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot works on X.

What makes this especially interesting is that no one has really built a social network from the ground up with AI as its core feature. So, if OpenAI pulls it off, it could be something completely new.

Of course, this is just one of many projects OpenAI is working on, so there’s no guarantee it’ll ever launch. But with the current state of social media and not many big new players emerging lately, this could be a big shake-up if it moves forward.

If OpenAI does go ahead with this social network, it would put the company in direct competition with Elon Musk’s X and Meta’s platforms like Facebook and Instagram. It would also give OpenAI something incredibly valuable real-time data to help train its AI models. That’s something both Meta and X already have access to, and it’s a huge advantage when building smarter AI tools.

FAQs

Q1. What is OpenAI reportedly working on?

Answer. OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI-powered social network, possibly integrated with ChatGPT, with a focus on image generation and social feeds.

Q2. How could the OpenAI social network impact the market?

Answer. If launched, it could be the first social network built around AI, positioning OpenAI as a competitor to platforms like Meta’s Facebook and Instagram, and Elon Musk’s X.

Q3. Why is real-time data from a social network valuable to OpenAI?

Answer. Real-time data from a social network could help OpenAI train its AI models more effectively, offering advantages similar to those currently enjoyed by Meta and X.
