If you recently got an email from no-reply@google.com telling you to “verify your account activity” or risk your Gmail being deactivated, don’t click anything. A convincing Gmail phishing scam is making the rounds and it’s catching people off guard because it looks very real.

The scam was first flagged by X (formerly Twitter) user Nick Johnson, who posted, “Recently I was targeted by an extremely sophisticated phishing attack, and I want to highlight it here. It exploits a vulnerability in Google’s infrastructure.”

Why This Gmail Scam Feels So Real?

The email is dressed up with official Google branding, a legit-looking logo and wording that sounds just like Google’s usual alerts. Johnson explained in a details X thread, “The first thing to note is that this is a valid, signed email — it really was sent from no-reply@google.com. It passes the DKIM signature check, and Gmail displays it without any warnings — it even puts it in the same conversation as other, legitimate security alerts.”

So yes, it looks totally legit. But it’s not.

The phishing message claims your Gmail account is under review because of suspicious activity. It urges you to click a “Review Activity” button to keep your account from being suspended in 24 hours. It’s all designed to create panic and get you to act fast, a common tactic in scams.

If you click the link, you’re taken to a fake website that looks exactly like the real Google login page. That’s where the trap is set. Once you type in your Gmail info, the scammers can steal –

  • Your email and password
  • Your recovery email and phone number
  • Even your two-factor authentication (2FA) codes

That gives them full control of your account. They can lock you out, steal your personal info, or use your email to target other people.

Johnson further said, “From there, presumably, they harvest your login credentials and use them to compromise your account; I haven’t gone further to check. So how did they do it – especially the valid email? This is due to two vulnerabilities in Google’s infra that they have declined to fix.”

Regarding reporting the issue to Google directly, Johnson wrote, “I’ve submitted a bug report to Google about this; unfortunately they closed it as ‘Working as Intended’ and explained that they don’t consider it a security bug. Obviously I disagree – but until they change their mind, be on the lookout for deceptive security alerts from Google.”

However, he also confirmed in a follow-up post that , “Google has reconsidered and will be fixing the oAuth bug!”

How To Spot the Red Flags Upon Receiving Such Emails?

Even though the sender shows up as “Google,” take a closer look. These scam emails often come from weird-looking addresses full of random characters. Also, watch out for:

  • Urgent language (“act within 24 hours!”)
  • Grammatical errors
  • Suspicious links that don’t go to Google’s real site

Meanwhile, Google also offers general tips for spotting phishing scams such as always checking the full email address, don’t click on links you don’t trust and never enter your password unless you’re 100% sure you’re on a secure, official site.

How to Stay Safe?

If you get one of these emails, here’s what to do:

  • Don’t click any links. Instead, open a new browser tab and go directly to your Gmail account to check activity or settings.

Nintendo has officially confirmed that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will go live on Thursday, April 24. While this is exciting news, it also comes with a catch that might not completely seem like a reason to rejoice.

Pre-orders were originally supposed to begin on April 9, but Nintendo pushed the date back. The reason was that the company wanted to evaluate the impact of new “reciprocal” tariffs introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this month.

Are Switch 2 Prices Staying the Same?

The good news is the price of the Switch 2 console hasn’t changed and it’ll still cost $449.99 (approx INR 42,687), just like Nintendo announced earlier.

Game prices are also holding steady –

  • The “Mario Kart World” bundle will be $499.99 (approx INR 42,687)
  • The digital version of “Mario Kart World” stays at $79.99 (approx INR 6,829)
  • “Donkey Kong Bananza” will be $69.99 (approx INR 5,975)

These are the same prices Nintendo shared on April 2, so no surprises there.

However, there is a not-so-good part to this update. It is being reported that the Switch 2 accessories are going up in price. It will be as follows –

  • The dock set will cost $10 more
  • The controller strap is $1 more
  • Most other add-ons will cost $5 more

Nintendo confirmed these increases are due to the tariffs, and they could impact future product pricing too. “Future price changes are possible for ‘any Nintendo product’,” the company said.

Why The Delay?

It appears Nintendo needed more time to figure out how the new tariffs would affect them financially. The original Switch consoles were made in China and Vietnam, and both countries are now facing tariffs of 145% and 10%, respectively.

“We apologise for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our consumers may be experiencing,” said Nintendo.

“We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5, 2025,” it added.

Meanwhile, Retailer Best Buy has confirmed it will also begin pre-orders on April 24.

Many Best Buy stores will hold midnight openings on launch day June 5, so fans can grab their console the moment it drops. This is the first time in six years Best Buy is doing a midnight launch, which shows just how big the hype is.

OnePlus has now confirmed the 13T will come with a 6,260mAh “glacier battery”, making it the first small-screen phone in the world with a battery over 6,000mAh.

According to Louis Jie, head of OnePlus China, “With a 6,260mAh glacier battery, the OnePlus 13T can ensure that everyone only needs to charge it once a day for daily use; you can play with friends for at least 7 hours without any problems; you can also travel light when you go out for a whole day, without having to bring a power bank or turn on the power saving mode.”

He also claimed the 13T outperforms all other small-screen phones in battery life and even beats larger phones like the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

WhatsApp is testing a handy new feature for automatic message translation in its latest Android beta version. This new tool aims to make chatting across languages smoother and more private. Here’s what we know so far.

WhatsApp’s New Message Translation Feature

According to a recent WABetaInfo report, the feature has been spotted in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.12.25. It adds a ‘Translate Messages’ toggle in chat settings and it allows automatic on-device translation of messages in individual WhatsApp Chats and Channels once enabled.

Since WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE), translations happen locally on your phone and not on WhatsApp’s servers keeping your conversations private.

To use the translation feature, WhatsApp will prompt users to select and download language packs directly on their phone. Supported languages for now include Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi and Russian. OnePlus seems to be working on a powerful new tablet, which is most likely called the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro. The tablet recently popped up on Geekbench, showing off some impressive performance numbers. However, what makes this interesting is that this is the second variant of the same device to appear in the benchmark listing. Here’s what we know.

A version of what most likely is the OnePlus Pad 2 Pro with the model number OPD2409 was tested on Geekbench 6.3.0 last month. It scored 2633 in the single-core test and 7779 in the multi-core test.

But now a newer version with model number OPD2413 have been spotted on the listing on April 18 and did even better performance-wise. It scored 3091 single-core and 9638 multi-core.

Both of these models come with 16GB of RAM, run on Android 15 and are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a flagship processor with 8 cores, clocked up to 4.32GHz. These are paired with an Adreno 830 GPU. These scores put the Pad 2 Pro in the same league as top-tier smartphones when it comes to raw power. It’s clearly built for heavy multitasking and long-term use.

Meanwhile, another device with model number OPD2408 has shown up in FCC certifications, hinting at a possible global version of the same device.
