It appears Meta’s smart glasses lineup is about to get a sporty upgrade. Recently, a new verified Instagram account called “Oakley | Meta” has just appeared, teasing a product launch on June 20. This signals the arrival of a long-rumoured partnership between Meta and Oakley. Here’s what we know so far.

Meta and Oakley Smart Glasses

As we mentioned above, talks of Meta and Oakley’s collaboration have been around since January. This is also when Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Meta was working on a new set of smart glasses under the Oakley brand, aimed at athletes and cyclists.

Now, recent teasers have given us something to look forward to on June 20. The teaser jointly shared by Meta, Oakley and the new Meta-Oakley page on Instagram and YouTube says, “The next evolution is coming on June 20.”

Unlike the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, which are designed for everyday use with a subtle camera built into the frame, the Oakley version is expected to feature a centre-mounted camera, more like an action cam, perfect for capturing fast-paced moments while on the move.

Smart Glasses Market

Meta’s Ray-Bans have turned out to be quite a hit. Earlier this year, the company revealed that it had already shipped over 2 million units with plans to ramp that number up to 10 million per year by 2026. The growing interest in AI assistants has certainly boosted their popularity.

Other tech giants are taking notice. Google recently announced new smart glasses partnerships with Warby Parker, Gentle Monster, and Kering Eyewear, all powered by Android XR.

Meanwhile, Apple is stepping up its game too. According to a recent Bloomberg report, the company is speeding up development of its own AI-powered smart glasses, now aiming for a launch by late 2026.

Apple is expected to start mass-producing prototypes later this year. The project is being handled by the Vision Products Group, the same team behind the Vision Pro headset.

Apple’s Smart Glasses – What to Expect?

Meanwhile, Apple’s first-gen smart glasses are expected to focus on AI-driven features. This would include features such as –

  • Scene recognition
  • Siri-powered voice controls
  • Phone calls and music playback
  • Turn-by-turn navigation
  • Real-time translation

The glasses are likely to include cameras, microphones, and speakers, drawing comparisons to Meta’s Ray-Bans. One Bloomberg source described Apple’s version as “similar to the Meta product but better made.”

Coming back to the Meta-Oakley collaboration, we are guessing more updates will start to float around closer to the announcement date.

WhatsApp is bringing some major changes to its Updates tab, which includes subscriptions, promotions and ads in both Status and Channels. But let’s not misunderstand, because contrary to how it sounds, WhatsApp is promising to keep ads away from your personal chats. This means there will be no change in how you use WhatsApp to connect with friends and loved ones.

Meta, which owns WhatsApp, says this tab has been reshaped over the last couple of years to help users discover fresh content and it’s now used by 1.5 billion people every day.

Announcing the changes in a Newsroom post, Meta wrote, “We’ve been talking for years about how to build a business on WhatsApp in a way that doesn’t interrupt personal chats, and we believe the Updates tab is the right place to introduce that. [….] Now the Updates tab is going to be able to help Channel admins, organizations and businesses build and grow.

What’s New in the Updates Tab

01_WhatsApp-Updates-Tab

Paid Channel Subscriptions – You can now subscribe to your favourite Channels by paying a monthly fee. In return, you’ll get exclusive updates and content directly from those Channels.

Promoted Channels – WhatsApp is making it easier to discover new Channels. You’ll see recommendations in the Channel directory, and admins will have better tools to boost their reach and visibility.

Ads in Status – WhatsApp will start showing ads inside the Status section. You’ll also be able to message businesses directly about the promoted products or services. These ads will not appear in your private chats.

It’s important to note that all these changes are limited to the Updates tab. Your personal chats, group messages, and calls will remain completely unchanged.

Focus on Privacy

WhatsApp says that these new features have been designed with privacy at the core. Here’s how they’re keeping things secure –

  • All private messages, calls, and group chats are end-to-end encrypted, so even WhatsApp can’t see or hear them.
  • Ads are shown based on limited info like your location (city/country), language, Channels you follow, and how you interact with ads.
  • If you’ve linked your WhatsApp to Meta’s Accounts Centre, some ad preferences and data from other Meta apps may be used.
  • Your phone number is never shared or sold, and private chats don’t affect the ads you see.

WhatsApp says it has been planning a business model that doesn’t interfere with personal messaging, and sees the Updates tab as the right place for these kinds of tools.

When Will You Get It?

These features will start rolling out globally on both Android and iOS over the next couple of months.

FAQs

Q1. What new monetisation features is WhatsApp introducing in the Updates tab?

Answer. WhatsApp is adding paid Channel subscriptions, promoted Channels, and ads in the Status section, all while keeping personal chats ad-free.

Q2. Will these changes affect personal chats or privacy on WhatsApp?

Answer. No. Personal chats, group messages, and calls remain end-to-end encrypted and will not show any ads or be affected by these updates.

Q3. When will the new WhatsApp features in the Updates tab roll out to users?

Answer. These features will begin rolling out globally over the next few months on both Android and iOS platforms.

Booking Tatkal train tickets online will get a major update starting July 1, 2025. As part of a push to stop fraud and ensure fair access for genuine travellers, the Ministry of Railways has made Aadhaar verification mandatory for Tatkal bookings on the IRCTC website.

Only users who have linked their Aadhaar number to their IRCTC account will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets online. This move aims to prevent misuse by unauthorised agents and bots and promote secure, verified bookings for last-minute passengers.

“With effect from 01.07.2025, tickets under tatkal scheme can be booked through the website of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)/its app only by Aadhaar authenticated users. Subsequently, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication shall also be made compulsory for the tatkal booking from 15.07.2025,” says the circular issued by the Railway Ministry on June 10.

Here’s everything you need to know.

New Tatkal Booking Rules from July 1

Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the details of new rules for the Tatkal ticket booking on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle @AshwiniVaishnaw. Posting the set of rules, the minister wrote, “Tatkal ticketing made more accessible for genuine users.”

  1. Aadhaar Verification Becomes a Must

From July 1, you won’t be able to book Tatkal tickets unless your IRCTC account is Aadhaar-verified. That means your Aadhaar number must be linked and authenticated through an OTP.

  1. Extra OTP Authentication from July 15

Starting July 15, even if your account is already verified, you’ll need to complete an OTP-based Aadhaar check every time you make a Tatkal booking. This ensures the person booking is the actual account holder, helping stop misuse.

  1. IRCTC Agents Face New Restrictions

To give regular users a fair shot, IRCTC agents won’t be allowed to book Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window –

  • AC Classes (1A, 2A, 3A): Agents blocked from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM
  • Non-AC Classes (SL, 2S): Agents blocked from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM

IRCTC and CRIS will update their systems to make sure these blocks are enforced automatically.

Why Tatkal Booking Rules Are Changing?

According to railway officials, the new rules will help:

  • Stop bulk bookings and abuse by bots and touts
  • Make last-minute tickets more accessible to real passengers
  • Improve transparency and online verification
  • Support the national “Digital India” mission by making e-governance more efficient

How to Link Aadhaar to Your IRCTC Account?

To be eligible for Tatkal booking after July 1, follow these simple steps –

What You Need –

  • An IRCTC account
  • Your 12-digit Aadhaar number or Virtual ID
  • A mobile number linked to your Aadhaar to receive OTP

Steps to Link Aadhaar:

  • Log in to your account at www.irctc.co.in
  • Go to ‘My Account’ > ‘Authenticate User’
  • Enter your Aadhaar Number or Virtual ID
  • Click ‘Verify Details’
  • Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number
  • Accept the consent and complete the authentication

You’ll see a success message once it’s done

How to Add Aadhaar-Verified Passengers to the Master List?

To save time during booking, IRCTC lets you pre-save Aadhaar-verified passengers. Here’s the step-by-step process –

  • Log in to your IRCTC account
  • Go to My Profile > Master List
  • Enter the passenger’s details exactly as on the Aadhaar card
  • Choose ‘Aadhaar Card’ as ID proof and enter the Aadhaar number
  • Click ‘Submit’. Status will initially show as “Pending”
  • Check status using ‘Check pending Aadhaar verification’
  • Once verified, the details will auto-fill during bookings

Tip – Keep your Master List updated to avoid delays during high-traffic Tatkal hours.

According to the official teasers released in China, one of the key highlights of Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro is going to be the inclusion of the Xring O1 chip. It is the same custom chip found in the recently launched Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra.

Xiaomi has also confirmed that the Pad 7S Pro will feature a 12.5-inch LCD display and pack a large 12,160mAh battery with support for 120W fast charging. It will run on HyperOS 2.0, based on Android 15 and promises a more PC-like user experience.

The tablet will also support the Xiaomi Pen stylus and has a slim, sleek body measuring just 5.8mm thick. While Xiaomi hasn’t shared all the specs yet, it’s expected that the Pad 7S Pro will compete with the Apple iPad Air series.

Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro – Design

Official images show off a premium all-metal unibody design with four-sided narrow bezels and rounded corners. It also comes with a new floating keyboard accessory, which appears similar to the one that launched with the Pad 7 Ultra.

The keyboard features a high-precision metal hinge for added stability and includes a large built-in trackpad, giving users a more laptop-like experience.

Another interesting addition is rear car mounting support, which wasn’t available on the Pad 7 Ultra. This makes the Pad 7S Pro more practical for in-car use, especially when paired with the Xring O1 platform.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is also expected to launch the Redmi K80 Ultra and a new Redmi K Pad, a compact gaming-focused tablet, around the same time. The Pad 7S Pro might debut alongside these products at the upcoming launch event.

We recently reported that Vivo is all set with a July launch date for the Vivo X200 FE. However, it appears the smartphone might arrive sooner than expected. Here’s all we know.

Vivo X200 FE – Launch Date and Live Images

While earlier reports pointed to a July launch, a new leak from tipster Paras Guglani @passionategeekz on X (formerly Twitter) now claims the global debut is happening on June 30. To support the claim, Guglani shared what looks like the phone’s retail box.

From the design and colour choices, it looks almost identical to the Vivo S30 Pro Mini sold in China. So, chances are that early reports claiming that the X200 FE is just a rebranded version of that phone are actually true. We can, however, expect a few minor tweaks for global markets.

Vivo X200 FE – Expected Specifications

If the internal hardware stays the same as the S30 Pro Mini, here’s what to expect-

  • A 120Hz AMOLED display with 10-bit colour and up to 5,000 nits peak brightness
  • A 50MP front camera in a centred punch-hole
  • Rear triple camera setup – 50MP main sensor, 8MP ultrawide, 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 70mm focal length
  • Both the main and telephoto cameras are expected to come with OIS (optical image stabilisation)

One of the standout features is the 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, which also powers the S30 Pro Mini. It supports 90W wired charging and works with USB PD fast-charging protocols.

Other expected features include stereo speakers, an under-display fingerprint scanner and an IP68/IP69 rating for water and dust resistance.

In India, the Vivo X200 FE is rumoured to be priced at ₹54,999, but it could go down to ₹49,999 with launch offers. Vivo hasn’t officially confirmed the phone or its launch date yet.
