Currently, the future of compact OnePlus smartphones outside China appears to be uncertain. Multiple reports have indicated that OnePlus may have dropped plans to launch the OnePlus 15s expected to arrive in India. But a new leak suggests that the company has not given up on the form factor altogether. Instead, it may already be working on the next-generation model, OnePlus 16T, for the Chinese market.

OnePlus 16T Development Reportedly Underway

According to information shared by tipster Digital Chat Station, OnePlus is currently developing a new compact smartphone focused on delivering flagship-level performance. Although the tipster did not specifically reveal the device’s name, speculation points to it being the upcoming OnePlus 16T.

The handset is reportedly being tested with Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset. The processor is expected to be built on an advanced 2nm manufacturing process, which could bring improvements in both performance and power efficiency.

The leak further claims that the device may feature a compact 6.3-inch flat display. While exact display specifications remain under wraps, the panel is said to support a very high refresh rate and will be suitable for smooth gaming, scrolling and everyday use.

At the moment, most of the hardware details are reportedly still being finalised.

Possible Launch Timeline

Based on the current timeline, the OnePlus 16T could potentially launch during the first quarter of 2027.

This prediction is largely based on the launch schedule of the OnePlus 15T, which was introduced in China in March this year. If OnePlus follows a similar release cycle, the rumoured OnePlus 16T could arrive around the same period next year.

While there is no confirmation regarding global availability, it remains possible that OnePlus could eventually introduce a OnePlus 16s in international markets.
