MediaTek has announced its new premium mid-range 5G chipset: Dimensity 8250.
This 5G-capable processor employs TSMC’s most advanced 4nm process node known for its power efficiency.
Another important addition is MediaTek’s dedicated AI processing unit that accelerates artificial intelligence computations on smartphones powered with the Dimensity 8250.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8250 is an octa-core, 5G chipset based on TSMC’s 4nm process.
It can handle a primary camera up to 320MP and supports triple rear cameras with 4K 60fps HDR video recording.
The chipset comes with the Mali-G610 MC6 GPU and can drive WQHD+ displays at 120Hz or Full HD+ at 180Hz.
A single Cortex-A78 core runs at 3.1 GHz, three other Cortex-A78s at lower frequencies, and four more Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
The Dimensity 8250 is supplied with 4MB of L3 cache, supporting LPDDR5 RAM up to 6400Mbps speeds and UFS 3.1 storage.
For AI acceleration, the chipset comes with MediaTek’s APU 580 processor.
Other connectivity features include an integrated 5G modem with support for Sub-6GHz SA/NSA/3CC networks and a maximum download speed of 4.7Gbps.
Other features of the chipset include Wi-Fi 6E 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.3, and support for all major navigation systems, including GPS, NavIC, and BeiDou, among others.
The new OPPO Reno 12 will reportedly be the first smartphone to feature the new MediaTek Dimensity 8250 SoC.
It first goes on sale in China, with launches in Europe and other global markets to follow soon.
Being a refreshed version of the Dimensity 8200, devices with the new 8250 chip should land in the around Rs 30,000 price segment.
More phone brands will probably include this capable mid-range 5G processor from MediaTek in their lineups for 2024.
The Dimensity 8250 is a 5G-capable octa-core processor built using TSMC’s 4nm technology, featuring high-resolution camera support, powerful GPU capabilities for gaming, and advanced AI processing with MediaTek’s APU 580.
The OPPO Reno 12 is expected to be the first device to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8250 chipset, with a launch initially planned in China before expanding to global markets.
As an upgrade to the Dimensity 8200, the 8250 chipset enhances AI performance, supports higher resolution displays, and provides faster connectivity options, making it a significant step up in the mid-range segment.
The chipset can power WQHD+ displays at 120Hz refresh rates or Full HD+ at 180Hz, providing versatility for high-end screen experiences in mid-range devices.
