That Apple is planning to release an updated iPhone SE early next is old news for anyone who stays even remotely in sync with what goes on in the tech community. The latest update suggests that the iPhone SE launch will be alongside a refreshed iPad Air and new Apple accessories.

The report comes from Bloomberg’s trusted Apple reporter Mark Gurman, who is known for breaking key Apple news from time to time.

As per Gurman, the upcoming iPhone SE will feature a major redesign. It will reportedly move away from the old forehead and chin bezels to adopt an all-screen look with Face ID unlock. If true, which most likely it will be, this will bring the SE in line with modern iPhone designs.

The new model will be based on the iPhone 14’s industrial design.

However, instead of the Dynamic Island cutout seen in recent iPhones, the SE will retain the older notch for housing the camera and Face ID sensors.

iPhone SE Key Specs (Rumoured)

The upcoming iPhone SE will be powered by Apple’s A18 chip and support the latest Apple Intelligence features.

This update will also mark the end of the iOS home button across Apple’s entire product lineup. It is expected to get an OLED display for the first time.

The report also suggests that it will still feature just one rear camera, unlike its higher-end counterparts.

The current iPhone SE starts at $429. As of now, it’s unclear if the 2025 model will maintain this price. However, we can expect a slight increase in price due to its upgraded design.

Upcoming iPad Air – Key Details (Rumoured)

The iPad Air is also due for an early 2025 refresh.

The report suggests the external design will remain the same and Apple will most likely focus on internal improvements.

Gurman didn’t specify which chip will power the new iPad Air. However, it is expected to come in 11-inch and 13-inch models. It was previously reported that both models have been codenamed J607 and J637, respectively.

Lastly, Apple is also planning to upgrade its keyboard accessories. We will most likely get an upgraded iPad Pro Magic Keyboard with a function row and a larger/more functional trackpad.

Meanwhile, an October event is expected to unveil new M4-powered Macs. The same event might also introduce updates to the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini.

Rumour: iPhone 17 Pro May Combine Action and Volume Buttons

0

Highlights

  • Rumours suggest Apple might merge the Action button and Volume Keys into a single button.
  • Apple is expected to experiment with customizable button placement
  • Could introduce these changes in the upcoming iPhone 17 series.
image

iPhone 16 series was launched with the new Camera Control Button as one of the main highlights. It gives quick access to the camera and camera settings. The button basically turns your iPhone into a handheld camera.

The Camera Control button follows the Action button, which debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro models last year. After the introduction of the Camera and Action button, all iPhone 16 models come equipped with both the Camera Control and Action buttons.

Many experts have already pointed out that the entire button system of iPhones will evolve eventually. It has been also speculated that how iPhone buttons look and work may also change in future. Now, recent rumours in the tech community are hinting that things will change as soon as the next iPhone.

The recent rumours suggest Apple is in the process of replacing the Action button and Volume Keys with a single button.

This might sound unusual at first to some of our readers. However, it aligns with previous reports about Apple experimenting with new button designs.

The recent rumour comes from a trusted leaker Majin Bu on X (previously Twitter), known for rightfully breaking many updates in the past. He had accurately predicted the display sizes for the Apple Watch Series 10 just before its release.

We know from previous reports that Apple is already working on the iPhone 17 series, which will include a slim iPhone 17 Air model.

If the recent rumours hold any air of truth, this new button design could be part of their plans as well.

It was also hinted that the unified button would function like the Camera Control button. It might include a sapphire crystal for touch detection and a force sensor to differentiate between taps or swipes. Users could mute the phone, adjust the volume, or trigger other actions, all with a single button.

Earlier reports suggested Apple considered merging the Volume and Action buttons during the iPhone 16’s development, under internal projects codenamed “Project Atlas” and “Project Bongo.”

While that plan clearly didn’t see the light of day, there is a slight chance that the Cupertino giant could even resurface that plan with the iPhone 17 Pro.

There’s even speculation that users might be able to customize button placement. The Camera Control and the rumoured Action-Volume button could be interchangeable. If true, this would help left-handed users and they would be able to position the buttons more conveniently.

The current rumours suggest some significant iPhone 17 Pro button design is on the cards. It will be interesting to see how things end up eventually. We can expect more leaks in the coming months.

FAQs

Q1. What new button features are introduced in the iPhone 16 series?

Answer. The iPhone 16 series features a new Camera Control button for quick access to camera functions, in addition to the existing Action button from the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Q2. What rumours are circulating about the button design in future iPhone models?

Answer. Rumours suggest that future iPhones might feature a single multifunction button replacing the Action button and Volume Keys, with possible customizable placement to aid left-handed users.

Gadgets counting your footsteps isn’t something new. We have had devices and apps that can do that for a long time now. However, it appears one of the popular social media platforms may soon be able to help you track your movement. Yes, one of your favourite social media apps, Snapchat is reportedly getting a movement tracker feature. Here’s what we know.

According to a recent TechCrunch report, Snapchat is rolling out a new feature called “Footsteps” for all iOS device users this week. The instant messaging app has confirmed the update to TechCrunch.

But if you think this is a brand-new feature, you are mistaken.

Footsteps was previously available only to Snapchat+ subscribers. This feature uses Snap Map to allow users to track how much of the world they’ve explored.

The feature pulls data from your saved Snaps in Memories when used for the first. It allows your past trips to count. However, after the first time, the app uses location data to track movements.

This feature only works when the Ghost Mode is off. Ghost Mode is a setting that lets you hide your location from friends.

This feature strengthens Snapchat’s Snap Map product. It also sets Snapchat apart from its many competitor social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. Other social media apps currently don’t offer a similar function. This might change soon as Instagram is reportedly developing a “Friends Map” feature.

With Footsteps, Snap Map will show you how many countries you’ve visited and how much area you’ve travelled. For example, the app might will reportedly display something like you’ve explored 30.4% of your city or 5% of Paris.

What’s interesting to note is how these updates are entirely based on where the user has taken and saved the Snaps. This means the accuracy depends on how regularly the app is used and the content is saved on the app.

As per the TechCrunch report, the Footsteps data will remain private and visible only to the users.

Users would also be able to turn the footsteps feature off. To do this, you can go to the Profile, tap on  Settings, and scroll down to the “Account Actions” section under “Map.” You can then toggle off the option to save new Footsteps or also clear your existing Footsteps history in the process.

As per reports, Snapchat approaching the new Footsteps feature as a fun way to track travels and also share your adventures with friends using a custom sticker.

The feature is similar to Google Maps’ “Timeline.” However, it focuses more on Snap Memories instead of full location history.

Snapchat plans to roll out the feature to Android users soon.

FAQs

Q1. What is the new “Footsteps” feature on Snapchat?

Answer. The “Footsteps” feature on Snapchat tracks users’ movements and shows how much of the world they’ve explored using Snap Map.

Q2. How does the Footsteps feature ensure user privacy?

Answer. Footsteps data remains private and is only visible to the user. Users can also turn off the feature by going to their Profile, tapping on Settings, scrolling down to “Account Actions” under “Map,” and toggling off the option to save new Footsteps or clearing their existing Footsteps history.

Q3. What are the benefits of the Footsteps feature on Snapchat?

Answer. The Footsteps feature allows users to track their travels, see how many countries they’ve visited, and share their adventures with friends using custom stickers. It enhances the Snap Map experience and sets Snapchat apart from other social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

Google Pixel 9a Leak Reveals Bigger Dimensions and New Purple ‘Iris’ Colour Option

0

Highlights

  • The Pixel 9a will reportedly measure 154 x 73 x 8.6 mm.
  • It will be slightly taller, wider, and thinner than the Pixel 8a.
  • Pixel 9a is expected to be released in new colours – “Peony” (pink) and “Iris” (bluish-purple).

Rumour mill seems to be buzzing with brewing Google Pixel 9a updates off late. While the recent leaked renders have already given a glimpse and hinted at a major design change, we now have more concrete details about dimensions and possible colour variants.

According to a recent report published on Android Headlines, the Pixel 9a will see a slight size adjustment compared to its predecessor the Pixel 8a. Just to remind, we already know that Pixel 9a is moving away from the iconic camera bar.

As per the recent update, the upcoming Pixel smartphone will be a bit taller, wider, and thinner. The leaked dimensions suggest we are getting a smartphone measuring 154 x 73 x 8.6 mm. Compared to this, Pixel 8a was 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9 mm.

It is important to note that slight changes in dimensions most likely won’t impact screen size much. However, online speculators believe it could have an effect on battery capacity. This is mainly because the thinner body might reduce space for a bigger-size battery. However, another theory suggests the increased height and width could help always provide more space for the battery if the brand wants it.

The Android Headline report also reveals the four colour options that we might get for the Pixel 9a.

Apart from the standard “Obsidian” (black) and “Porcelain” (white) colour options, Google is reportedly introducing two new shades. These are a pink colour option similar to the Pixel 9 named “Peony” and a bluish-purple hue named “Iris”.

This is particularly notable since Google hasn’t released a purple phone since the Pixel 3a in 2019. Pixel 3a featured a light “Purple-ish” colour.

As of now more details about the upcoming Pixel phone are awaited.

The Pixel 9a is expected to launch in 2025 along with the five new smartphones from Google planned for release.

FAQs

Q1. How does the Pixel 9a compare in size to the Pixel 8a?

Answer. The Pixel 9a will be slightly taller, wider, and thinner than the Pixel 8a, with dimensions of 154 x 73 x 8.6 mm compared to the Pixel 8a’s 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9 mm.

Q2. What new colour options are expected for the Pixel 9a?

Answer. The Pixel 9a is expected to come in four colour options: “Obsidian” (black), “Porcelain” (white), “Peony” (pink), and “Iris” (bluish-purple).

It is interesting to note that the older Redmi smartphones such as the Redmi Note 12 Turbo and Note 12T Pro still perform better than the new Note 14 Pro+ on the AnTuTu benchmark.

This is mainly due to the more powerful processors used in older devices. Note 12 Turbo and Note 12T Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 and Dimensity 8200 respectively.

Certain reports have suggested that the rumoured Redmi Turbo 4 can prove to be a serious contender for the top spot. It is speculated to feature the next-generation Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor.

The claim that Turbo 4 could climb the rankings has been made on the assumption that it remains affordably priced to fit the flagship killer category.

Many artists around the world have spoken about the Deepfake threat and possible misuse of AI technology. The recent to have spoken out in this matter is Bollywood Actress Ananya Panday.

Pandey, whose upcoming Netflix film CTRL delves into the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI), recently spoke about the dangers associated with a more closely interconnected world and AI.

The actress believes that government regulations are crucial to prevent misuse of this powerful technology.

There has been growing conversation around Deepfake in light of recent deepfake scandals involving other Bollywood celebrities including Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Rashmika Mandanna.

Panday emphasized the risk public figures face from such harmful content.

Panday stressed the need for government action to protect individuals from the negative impacts of deepfake technology. “It’s very scary. As public figures, our faces and voices are out there. I don’t know how much we can safeguard. I think it will have to come from regulations by the government, that’s probably the only solution,” she said during a media interaction.

In the upcoming film CTRL, Panday’s character uses an AI app to erase her cheating boyfriend from her life, a fictional scenario that mirrors real-world concerns about AI’s potential for manipulation.

Produced by Saffron and Andolan Films, CTRL is set to stream on Netflix starting October 4. The cyber-thriller is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

Deepfake technology uses AI to convincingly swap one person’s likeness with another. It could lead to serious ethical and privacy issues. The technology is often used to create misleading or objectionable videos using the faces of famous people from around the world. Many celebrities have spoken out against it in the past as well.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the newly elected Union Government in India will soon introduce a Digital India Bill to check Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated deepfake videos and explore better ways to use the technology.

“We need certainly a lot of consultation and debate and discussion around it. But we certainly have a roadmap of what is legislation, what is our policy goals and what are the policy principles for safety and trust,” Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology had said at the Financial Express’s DigiFraud & Safety Summit 2023.

However, it is the recent video of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra case that made the rounded edges theory clearer.

Google’s upcoming Pixel 9a is set to make some drastic changes in the design of the phone if recently leaked renders are of any indication. In order to change the original design concept, it seems Google has removed the iconic “camera bar” completely.

From the leaked images shared by Android Headlines and @OnLeaks, it can be seen that the camera bar or “visor” across the back has been a defining feature of all Pixel smartphones. The camera bar since Google’s customer Tensor chips makes the pixel smartphone instantly recognisable.

So, Google’s decision to move away from the camera bar design in the Pixel 9a is definitely surprising.

Recently, leaked renders that mostly look like CAD-based images surfaced online revealing the new design choice Google has made. The renders showed a glimpse of a new, sleeker design for the Pixel 9a.

Instead of the old camera bar that many users didn’t like because it stuck out too much for their liking, the cameras are now flush with the back of the phone. It looks similar to older LG devices before they exited the smartphone market.

Leaked renders also reveal that the flash is positioned on the right side of the camera lenses.

This is not the first time we have learned about the change in the design of Pixel 9a. This design change was previously hinted at in a prototype that surfaced earlier this year in August.

While these renders give us a good look at the new design, no additional details, such as dimensions have been revealed as of now.

Like other recent A-series smartphones, the Pixel 9a is expected to be powered by the same Tensor G4 as Google’s more premium phones. It’s also expected that the Pixel 9a might have a bigger battery as compared to its predecessor the Pixel 8a’s 4,492mAh cell.

It was reported some time back that Pixel 9a will be Google’s last handset with a Samsung-made chip.

The Pixel 9a is expected to launch in mid-2025. To give a precise timeline, some reports speculate that it could be unveiled in May 2025 during Google’s I/O conference. In any case, it will most likely be part of Google’s release of five new Pixel devices next year.
