Is Sony planning a holiday season price cit for PS5? Well, all the circumstantial evidence points in that direction and the gamer in us is absolutely thrilled.

Here’s a quick recap of why we think the PS5 price might just get slashed soon.

A recent Sony promotional video accidentally leaked gave us a hint on the possible price drop for the PlayStation 5. The slip happened in a promotional video showing discounted prices for the PS5 Slim Digital Edition.

The video titled ‘Play Has No Limits’ showcased the PS5 Slim Digital Edition at $379 with the promotion valid until December 24.

Although Sony quickly removed the video from YouTube, the pricing details had already been captured and shared online.

Meanwhile, Dealabs editor Bilbil-kun has confirmed similar discounts and suggested Sony is gearing up for Black Friday promotions, particularly for European markets.

The leaked details suggest for the upcoming discounts in Europe:

  • PS5 Slim (Standard Edition): Was €550 (approx INR 48,924) → Now €475 (approx INR 42,252); Save €75 (approx INR 6,671)
  • PS5 Slim (Digital Edition): Was €450 (approx INR 39,139) → Now €375 (approx INR 33,357); (Save €75) (approx INR 6,671)
  • PlayStation VR2 Headset: Was €600 (approx INR 53,371) → Now €400 (approx INR 35,581); (Save €200) (approx INR 17,790)

Retailers might even offer additional discounts during the promotional period, which will make these the lowest prices for the PS5 ever.

The discounts are expected to kick off with Black Friday deals starting November 22 and will likely run through mid-December.

PS5 Pro iFixit Teardown Is Out Now

Meanwhile, the iFixit team recently released its PS5 Pro teardown video revealing some key insights about the console.

Check out the entire iFixit Video here –

On the surface, it doesn’t seem much has changed compared to the PS5 and PS5 Slim when it comes to repairability.

However, the one thing the teardown video highlights is how Sony has now made it easier to access the CMOS battery in PS5 Pro.

In the teardown video, it can be seen that iFixit discovers the CMOS battery right under the faceplates secured by a hatch with one screw.

This placement is quite different and simpler from what we have seen in two previous PS5 models.

iFixit also appreciated this position improvement and noted how it was complicated in previous models where “you’ve got to take apart almost the whole thing to change [the CMOS battery] out.”

If you are interested in exploring more about the PS5 Pro, you can check out the reviews that have already highlighted how solid this gaming console is.

However, the $700 (approx INR 59,090) price tag remains an issue.

Apple Might Discontinue The Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter

0

Highlights

  • Apple might discontinue the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter.
  • It is currently listed as “sold out” on Apple’s online store in most countries.

  • third-party MFi-certified options will most likely be available.

It appears Apple is a few steps away from discontinuing its lightning to the 3.5mm headphone jack adapter.

The update was shared in a recent MacRumors report by contributor Aaron Perris. The adapter was first introduced by Apple in 2016.

Apple launched this adapter alongside the iPhone 7, which was the first Apple iPhone to ditch the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack. For those who wanted to stick with wired headphones aside from the Lightning EarPods included in the box, the adapter was essential.

Most apple users won’t be buying it considering they need a Type-C to 3.5mm dongle.

Apple initially bundled it with the iPhone 7, 8 and X. But starting with the iPhone XS and XR, the adapter was no longer included and had to be purchased separately for $9 (INR 900).

With the newer iPhone models now using USB-C, Apple continues to sell a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter for the iPhone 15 and later.

However, the availability of the Lightning adapter will now become uncertain for users of older models like the iPhone 14 and earlier.

The Lightning to 3.5mm adapter is currently listed as “sold out” on Apple’s online store in the US and most other countries.

The Lightning to 3.5mm adapter is currently out of stock on Apple’s online store in the U.S , Lightning to 3.5mm dongle is out of stock in India too but third-party accessory makers will likely continue selling them

While this doesn’t confirm its discontinuation, the MacRumors report suggests it is a strong indication. MacRumors also points out a similar situation occurred with Apple’s USB SuperDrive when it was sold out a few months before being quietly discontinued.

However, the adapter is still available in select regions including India, France, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

It is only that if you’re in the US and want the official Apple version, your chances of finding the same are less.

Amazon is showing out of stock, but Best Buy still has some units available for slightly less than $9 (INR 900).

We suggest anyone thinking of getting an Apple’s original adapter might want to grab one before it’s too late. Meanwhile, the third-party MFi-certified options are likely to remain on the market.

FAQs

Q1. When was the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter introduced?

Answer. The adapter was first introduced by Apple in 2016.

Q2. Is Apple discontinuing the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter?

Answer. Currently, the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter is listed as “sold out” on Apple’s online store in the US and most other countries, which some reports reported as a strong indication of its discontinuation.

Q3. Which regions still have the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter available?

Answer. The adapter is still available in select regions, including France, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.

WhatsApp Tests New Shortcut for Camera and Gallery Access From Chat

  • The update is currently only available to beta testers.

WhatsApp is a popular app that many people use to share media. Meta has been working to make media-sharing smoother on WhatsApp with new features and design changes.

We last reported that WhatsApp has begun testing a dedicated gallery shortcut in the text field.

However, the change was at the expense of the existing camera option, which would make accessing the camera complicated. Now, a new beta release seems to address this issue.

According to the trusted WhatsApp Beta informer WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta v2.24.24.16 for Android is reintroducing the camera shortcut alongside the gallery shortcut within the text field.

WABetaInfo shared a screenshot which shows the shortcut change makes it easier to quickly access both the camera and the gallery. However, we cannot overlook the fact that it also makes the chat text field a lot crowded, especially with the attachment option still present.

image
WhatsApp text field layout design with only gallery shortcut (left) and text field layout with camera and gallery shortcuts (right). (Screenshot credit – WABetaInfo)

While some users may appreciate the convenience, others might find three shortcuts packed together difficult to handle with increased chances of accidental touches. It will be interesting to see how this change is received when and if rolled out to wider users.

As of now, this update is only available to beta testers and is expected to roll out gradually over the coming weeks.

It is important to note that these features might not make it to the final version of WhatsApp. The app has seen several changes in shortcut placements recently, which suggests Meta is still experimenting with the best layout.

Currently, the attachment menu already includes shortcuts for the gallery and camera along with options for polls, documents, and audio.

If WhatsApp keeps the new shortcuts in the text field, it might remove the camera and gallery options from the attachment menu. However, these are just possibilities and it may few weeks for the final design to appear.

FAQs

Q1. What new shortcuts is WhatsApp testing in the latest beta release?

Answer. WhatsApp is testing a new beta update that reintroduces the camera shortcut alongside the gallery shortcut in the text field for easier media access.

Q2. What is the drawback of the new shortcuts in WhatsApp’s text field?

Answer. The new shortcuts make the chat text field crowded, which might lead to accidental touches and mixed user feedback.

Q3. Who can currently access the new WhatsApp update?

Answer. The update is currently only available to beta testers and may not appear in the final version as Meta continues to experiment with the best layout for media-sharing features.

Apple Might Explore Releasing Its Own TV Set, Gurman Suggests

0

Highlights

  • Apple is reportedly considering launching an Apple-branded TV set.
  • It is not expected to be released anytime soon.
  • It will only come after the launch of their smart display lineup.
  • Apple’s plans for an Apple TV set will depend on the success of their smart display products.

Well, we know Apple is focusing on developing a robust and innovative range of products other than iPhones. As per recent updates, we might just get an Apple TV sometime in the future.

Bloomberg’s Apple reporter Mark Gurman, in his latest Power On newsletter, revealed that Apple is reportedly considering the idea of launching an Apple-branded TV set. However, it’s not something we’ll see anytime soon.

Gurman suggests this potential Apple TV set would only come after Apple releases its upcoming smart display lineup, which is still a work in progress.

Apple’s first smart display, which is often referred to as ‘HomePad,’ is expected to debut early next year as a more affordable option. A higher-end model with a larger screen and a robotic arm is also in the pipeline.

But there’s a catch.

Gurman believes Apple’s plans could shift if the initial smart display products don’t succeed. ” It may even revisit the idea of making an Apple-branded TV set, something it’s evaluating. But if the first device fails, Apple may have to rethink its smart home ambitions once again,” he writes. This makes the rumoured Apple TV set far from a sure thing.

Among other categories, the Cupertino Giant is also investing more resources into developing, privacy-focused home cameras, speakers and mobile robots.

Between around 2009 and 2011, it was repeatedly rumored that Apple would be releasing a TV, but it didn’t happen .

Some tech enthusiasts believe Apple might already have enough of a presence in the TV market with its Apple TV boxes.

Moreover, the company may prefer promoting its Apple Vision Pro as the ultimate home theatre solution, which could conflict with the idea of introducing a dedicated Apple-branded TV.

While an Apple TV set could carve out a niche in the high-end market, it seems more like a possibility than a certainty for now.

FAQs

Q1. When might Apple release its own TV set?

Answer. Gurman suggests this potential Apple TV set would only come after Apple releases its upcoming smart display lineup, which is still a work in progress.

Q2. What is Apple’s first smart display expected to be called?

Answer. Apple’s first smart display, which is often referred to as ‘HomePad,’ is expected to debut early next year as a more affordable option.

Q3. What could affect Apple’s plans to launch an Apple TV set?

Answer. Gurman believes Apple’s plans could shift if the initial smart display products don’t succeed, making the rumoured Apple TV set far from a sure thing.

Some reports previously predicted that the next-gen AirTags will have better range and a wireless chip. However, Apple focusing on privacy for AirTags is a new reveal.

The enhanced privacy feature in AirTag 2 will “include making it more difficult for someone to remove the speaker from the AirTag.”

It is a welcome step that Apple is paying more attention to privacy for AirTags users considering there have been incidents of stalking via AirTags. Apple could be working to address such privacy concerns with the new model.

Highlighting how enhanced privacy on AirTags would be a good thing, Gurman stated, “Since the device launched in 2021, some people have unfortunately used the product as a tool for stalking — and removing the speaker makes it less likely for someone to discover a hidden AirTag. Apple is contending with lawsuits over the device, and it’s in everyone’s interest to make the new model more tamper-proof.”

The first AirTag was launched in 2021 after rumours around it had a free run for more than 2 years. The rumours started back in 2019 when iOS 13 references were leaked and a product with the B389 codename was discovered online. Currently, AirTags are available for $19 for a pack of 1 and $79.98 for a pack of 4.

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has spoken on the need for social media platforms to fairly compensate traditional news organizations for the content shared and consumed on their platforms.

Speaking on National Press Day, Vaishnaw highlighted the significant challenges news outlets face in today’s evolving digital landscape.

He shared four challenges we face today, which included the following –

  • Fake news & disinformation
  • Fair compensation by platforms
  • Algorithmic bias
  • Impact of AI on Intellectual Property

Vaishnaw pointed out that the rise of social media has shifted news consumption away from the digital platforms of conventional news outlets, leading to revenue losses. Emphasising the extensive investment made by traditional media in creating quality content, the Minister said, “The investment done in creating a team of journalists, training them, having editorial processes, having methods to check the veracity of news, taking the responsibility for the content, all those investments are huge in terms of time and money.”

He noted that these efforts were being undermined by the dominant advantage social media platforms have over traditional media.

Vaishnaw also raised concerns about the spread of fake news and misinformation on social media and highlighted how it has led to incidents of violence, terrorism and interference in democratic processes globally.

He argued that platforms have “shied away from the responsibility for the content” because of the concept of safe harbouring.

“With our diverse society, we have to be extra careful. Therefore, when the circumstances are different, should not there be different metrics for the platforms?” he stated.

The minister flagged additional issues like algorithmic biases on social media platforms, which prioritize content that evokes strong reactions, and the impact of artificial intelligence on intellectual property rights.

Both, he said, are significant challenges faced by Indian internet users today.

Vaishnaw’s remarks underscore the growing need to create a fairer digital ecosystem where news organizations are adequately compensated and accountability for the content on social platforms is ensured.
