Google and Samsung are getting into spatial computing with the just announced Android XR for mixed-reality headsets. The platform has been designed based on Google’s existing Android ecosystem to bring immersive experiences to headsets and smart glasses.

Android XR is a custom version of Android tailored for spatial computing. It’s built to support a wide range of devices, from mixed-reality headsets to smart glasses. Many existing Android apps will work seamlessly on the platform, ensuring a broad ecosystem from the start.

At the heart of Android XR is Google’s Gemini AI, enabling natural, multimodal interactions. Users can control devices with voice commands, hand gestures and contextual conversations, creating a more intuitive computing experience.

The first Android XR device codenamed Project Moohan is set to launch next year. The name Moohan means infinity in Korean and it reflects Samsung’s vision for limitless immersive experiences for the users.

Project Moohan is currently in the prototype stage. It will reportedly feature advanced displays with passthrough capabilities and Qualcomm-powered hardware. It will also leverage Samsung’s Galaxy AI alongside Gemini for smarter interactions.

Nothing Phone (2a) Plus is now part of the Android 15 beta program, following the rest of Nothing’s lineup. The program, which runs on Nothing OS 3.0, first launched with the Phone (2a), then expanded to the Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1. Now, owners of the Phone (2a) Plus can also experience the beta update.

Food delivery company Zomato has been ordered with a tax demand by the Joint Commissioner of CGST & Central Excise Thane Commissionerate Maharashtra.

The ₹803.4 crore order alleges non-payment of goods and services tax (GST) on delivery charges for the period between October 29, 2019 and March 31, 2022.

The total amount includes a GST liability of ₹401.7 crore, an equal amount as a penalty and additional interest.

The tax demand order, issued on November 12, 2024 and served to Zomato on December 12, 2024, focuses on GST compliance related to delivery charges.

DCS wrote (as translated from Chinese to English using Google Translate), “Judging from the supply chain materials, the iPhone 17 series has indeed been changed to this design. Apple is focused on being self-sufficient while reducing dependency on other companies for components. In a recent Bloomberg report, Mark Gurman revealed that the company is working on updated Apple TV and HomePod mini models to feature Apple’s new custom wireless chip. “Engineers are stuck working on iOS 18 projects when they’d usually already be on to the following OS,” he wrote on X.

Delhi Police has arrested five accused in the Delhi Metro Cable Theft case of December 5.

Delhi Metro services faced disruptions on the morning of December 5 due to the theft of signalling cables, an essential component for tracking train movements.

According to The Indian Express report, the gang responsible for the theft scouted isolated and dimly lit areas near Delhi Metro pillars for months.

Their aim was to steal copper cables prized for their high scrap value. Using ropes and hooks, the thieves climbed the pillars to reach the elevated Blue Line tracks and cut the cables.

Explaining the gang’s methods, Joint CP (Transport Range) Vijay Singh said,  “Using ropes and hooks, Islam, Nadeem, Siddhu, and Teli scaled the Metro pillars to reach the elevated tracks and cut the high-value copper cables, which carry no electricity. Shahrukh and Ramzan parked vehicles away from the scene to avoid suspicion.”

The investigation revealed that Rashid and Faisal transported the stolen cables to a godown in Mustafabad, where some were weighed and prepared for sale. The rest were moved to a rented godown in Brajpuri before being transported to another location for disposal.

The theft came to light around 5 am when the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) received an alert from the signalling department about a track circuit issue. Upon investigation, officials discovered that 140 meters of signalling cable were missing between the Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations.

Five individuals have been arrested: Rashid Malik (26), Shahrukh Malik (29), Ramzan (32), Junaid aka Bhura (32), and another gang member. Seven others, including Faisal, Masoom, Nadeem, Siddhu, Teli, Sarfaraj, and Islam, are still on the run.

DMRC’s Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal commended the Delhi Police for their swift response. “This is a positive step in avoiding disruption of Metro services for the public and we hope will be a deterrent for others in the future,” he stated.

The incident highlights the need for heightened security measures to prevent such disruptions in the future.
