Highlights

  • Google’s Tensor G5 and G6 process upgrades leaked.
  • Google Tensor G5 for Pixel 10 will be built on TSMC’s advanced N3E node.
  • The Tensor G6 will be manufactured on TSMC’s N3P node.

It was previously reported that Google is switching to TSMC for its upcoming chips with confirmed reports that the Tensor G5 chip for Google Pixel 10 will be manufactured by the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturer.

However, there wasn’t much update on which exact process would be used. Now we are getting reports about only on the Tensor G5 but also on the Tensor G6.

In an exclusive report, Android Authority has revealed important details from Google’s gChips division leak about the upcoming Tensor chips.

Android Authority confirmed of obtaining documents of the process nodes that will power Google’s future processors.

Google Tensor G5 To Be Built on TSMC’s Advanced N3E Node

According to the Android Authority report, the Tensor G5 is codenamed “Laguna” and is expected to be the chip in Google’s Pixel 10 series next year. It will be manufactured on TSMC’s 3 nm-class N3E node.

This is the same advanced process that was also used for Apple’s A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro and the M4 chips.

This brings a significant leap compared to the previous Tensor G4 that uses Samsung’s 4 nm-class 4LPE node.

By switching to the N3E node, the Tensor G5 is set to bring massive upgrades in both efficiency and performance.

It is a promising development for Google’s hardware since this is considered the best process node currently available.

The Tensor G5 will also present upgrades to the CPU cluster.

It will have the same single Arm Cortex-X4 primary core and will shift the core clusters around with five Cortex-A725 cores in the mid cluster and two Cortex-A520 cores in the little cluster.

The Tensor G5 comes with a GPU from Imagination Technologies (or IMG) — the DXT-48-1536 running at 1.1 GHz.

The GPU will come with ray tracing support that will be new to Google chips and will provide support for GPU Virtualisation, which will allow accelerated graphics in a virtual machine. Google has been reportedly developing virtualization-based features for some time now.

As per the Android Authority report, the Tensor G5 will have a slightly faster TPU than the Tensor G4.

The Trillions of Operations Per Second (TOPS) value is almost 40% larger, while Google’s internal benchmarks suggest the new TPU is only 14% faster.

The advanced TPU will come with small embedded RISC-V cores and support for on-device training.

Tensor G6 On the N3P Node, Set for 2026

The story doesn’t end there as Android Authority was also able to report on the Tensor G6 chip scheduled for 2026.

G6 Chip is codenamed “Malibu” and will be manufactured on TSMC’s next-generation N3P node.

The N3P node is still part of the 3 nm class and introduces some important enhancements to the table. It is rumoured to be used for Apple’s future A19 chip.

According to the leaked documents obtained by Android Authority, the N3P process node offers the following improvements:

  • Frequency (@iso-lkg): A 5% increase allows for higher performance without causing additional leakage (which affects efficiency).
  • Power (@iso-freq): A 7% reduction in power consumption when maintaining the same frequency.
  • Area: A 4% reduction in the overall size of the chip contributes to a smaller final design.

Android Authority wasn’t able to publish the original leaked documents but managed to recreate the leaked information in this graph –

The technical details may seem complex to layman’s eyes. So, the core takeaway from all the above details is that the Tensor G6 will offer significant gains in performance and efficiency.

It is quite evident that Google is finally stepping up its game with Tensor chips and wants to offer the best technology to its customers. Shifting to cutting-edge nodes, Google is definitely taking steps.

All in all, we can assume that both the upcoming Tensor G5 and G6 chips will offer significant advancements for Google’s processor lineup.

One viral post these days is enough to question everything that a company stands for. Many online service providers often find themselves amid strange customer complaints. One such service provider is Zomato.

The company is not new to online outrage and has regularly faced consumer backlash online.

The recent incident happened when a man from Gurugram sparked an online debate after accusing Zomato of selling “fake paneer” to restaurants through its B2B platform, Zomato Hyperpure.

In a post on X (previously Twitter), user Sumit Behal claimed that Zomato is supplying restaurants with “fake paneer” made from vegetable oils. According to Behal, these restaurants then serve the paneer to customers without providing any disclaimer about its true nature.

“India loves paneer dishes and restaurants sell fake paneer made with vegetable oils without any disclaimer.

They make you believe that you are eating healthy food by eating a variety of paneer dishes over junk food.

This is being sold on the website of Zomato for restaurants,” Behal wrote in his post.

Behal also posted screenshots on the product page. The product in question was labelled Analogue Paneer on the website.

It has raised concerns due to its description by the manufacturer as “fit for tikka and gravy paneer dishes.”

This description has led some to question its authenticity.

In a follow-up post, Behal also clarified that his claims were based on a YouTube video shared by the All About Nutrition channel that highlighted the issue first.

Behal’s post quickly gained attention online with people sharing their opinions in the comments section.

While some supported his concerns, others called for more clarity and evidence regarding the product in question.

As of now, Zomato has not responded to the accusations made by Behal.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) recently published a published 48-page detailed order to green-lit the big merger between Reliance Industries and Walt Disney’s media assets.

However, not without a few conditions. As part of the $8.5 billion deal, Reliance and Disney will have to sell off seven TV channels including Hungama and Super Hungama to meet competition rules.

Reliance and Disney have also agreed not to bundle TV ad slots for IPL, ICC and BCCI cricket matches until the end of their current contracts to get the merger approved.

This means that advertising slots for these popular cricket events will be sold separately ensuring fair competition.

“The parties will not bundle OTT ad slot sales for all three cricketing rights available with the parties, i.e. IPL, ICC and BCCI for the balance tenure of the existing rights,” said the 48-page order.

The companies also promised not to raise ad prices for ICC and IPL events “to an unreasonable level” while they hold the rights.

A key part of the deal is the sale of seven TV channels Hungama and Super Hungama.

Reliance-Disney Merger Gets IB Minitry’s Approval

Earlier in September 2024, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) gave its approval for the transfer of non-news TV channels from Viacom18 Media to Star India.

Reliance shared the news in a filing to the stock exchange, saying, “It is hereby informed that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Government of India, vide its order dated September 27, 2024, has granted its approval for the transfer of Licenses relating to Non News & Current Affairs TV channels held by Viacom18 Media in favour of Star India subject to conditions laid by Competition Commission of India.”

According to CCI, this merger will create India’s biggest media company valued at over ₹70,000 crore.

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance will control 60% of the new entity, 16% directly and 47% through its Viacom18 business. On the other hand, Disney will own 37%. The combined company will run more than 120 TV channels and two major streaming services giving Reliance a huge presence in India’s media scene.

For the July-September quarter, Reliance Industries reported a profit of ₹19,101 crore. This was a 3.6% drop compared to last year. But on a quarter-on-quarter basis, the company’s profit actually increased by 9.5%.

In the first quarter of FY25, they made a profit of ₹17,448 crore.

FAQs

Q1. What conditions did the CCI place on the Reliance-Disney merger?

Google Pixel “a” series is one of the most popular Google phones in the market with fans always looking forward to its release. While the next-in-line Google Pixel 9a release is slowly approaching, we now have been hearing some new exciting details about the upcoming smartphone.

As per certain reports, Google’s upcoming Pixel 9a is expected to make some particular changes in the camera setup.

The phone will reportedly feature a 48MP main camera, which is a shift from the 64MP sensor we have seen previously used in models such as the Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a.

While we are learning that the previously used 64MP sensor experts believe a Sony IMX787 will be replaced, it is unclear what the new sensor will be.

A recent 9to5Google report suggests that there is possible the 48MP camera could use a cropped version of the same sensor. Google used a similar strategy in the Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold previously.

If this turned out to be true, the camera performance might not see a significant drop.

Upcoming Google Pixel 9a – What To Expect?

Other rumoured specs for the Pixel 9a include a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a dual-camera setup on the back.

The phone will likely be powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chip offering similar performance to the flagship Pixel 9 series.

However, the Pixel 9a may still use the older Exynos Modem 5300 with no satellite SOS capabilities. This is probably being done to keep the price more affordable.

As per rumours and leaks, the upcoming Pixel 9a is also expected to have a 13MP front-facing camera.

The device is expected to run on Android 15 delivering AI-driven photography tools like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur.

The phone will most likely also feature the “Add Me” AI tool that debuted with the Pixel 9 series this year.

This AI-powered tool allows users to be added to group photos even after handing off the phone to someone else to take the picture.

As for the battery life, rumours suggest the expected battery capacity could be close to 4500mAh.

Google will most likely offer the Pixel 9a in four stylish colour options including Porcelain, Obsidian, Peony and Iris.

The Pixel 9a is anticipated to launch in March 2025. We can expect more details to surface closer to the release date.

If you have been holding on to the hope of Samsung’s cheaper foldable to hit the market, we suggest you prepare yourself for some disappointment.

It appears Samsung has no plans for popularising the foldable smartphone segment and so, plans for a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold are off the table.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series continues to be one of the best foldable phones out there in the smartphone market.

There were previous reports that the Korean brand is planning on developing a more affordable version of the phone.

However, according to the recent reports surfacing in the Korean media, the company has once again confirmed it has no intention of offering a more affordable version of the device.

In an interview with Korean publication SisaJournal, Samsung confirmed that despite launching a region-limited Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, there are no plans to create a lower-priced version of the Galaxy Z Fold.

A company spokesperson stated, “Rather than thinking of [Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition] as a premium product, it’s a product released to expand your options. You can choose according to your taste. As of now, we have no plans to release a separate product with a lower price.

The different Galaxy Z Fold model’s price has been between $1,799 to $1,899 for a few years since its launch.

The high price is one of the main reasons Samsung foldable devices have remained unreachable to a wide customer base.

Samsung recently released the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition with an even higher price tag than the Fold 6, costing around USD 300 more.

This move highlights Samsung’s focus on keeping foldable devices exclusively for premium customers.

Samsung Tri-Fold Device in the Pipeline

While Samsung has officially confirmed that there are no plans for Galaxy Z Fold FE, certain rumours indicate that Samsung might be developing its first-ever tri-fold phone.

Huawei has already entered the tri-fold market this year and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Samsung comes with its own version.

Although there is no official word regarding this tri-fold device as of now, we can assume it will make headlines whenever a hint drops.

These developments suggest Samsung is exploring new foldable ideas even though a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold isn’t on the cards.

Meta Tests Instant Facial Recognition to Recover Instagram or Facebook Accounts, Bans Private Jet Tracking Accounts

Highlights

  • Meta is testing instant facial recognition for recovering locked Instagram and Facebook accounts.

  • Facial recognition will also be used to detect and block fraudulent ads with celebrity faces.
  • Meta is shutting down Instagram and Threads accounts that track private jets.

Often many users find themselves getting locked out of their Instagram or Facebook accounts.

It can happen for various reasons such as forgetting login details, losing access to a two-factor authentication device or even a hacker changing the password.

In such cases, users will have to prove their identity and verify the locked account belongs to them.

Regaining access to the locked account can be slow and frustrating at times since identity verification is still a manual process. Many users have complained that Meta takes too long to respond.

Now it appears Meta is finally addressing this issue and regaining access to your locked-out Instagram or Facebook account will be getting easier in the future.

Instant Facial Recognition to Recover Instagram or Facebook Accounts

As per a recent post on its newsroom, Meta announced that it is testing a feature to allow users to unlock their accounts using facial recognition.

Here’s what we know.

In the current system, users are sometimes asked to submit a video selfie to verify their identity. However, the review work is manual, which takes time.

Meta is now testing an instant recovery feature, which will be powered by facial recognition technology. With this feature, users would take a short video moving their head just like registering for Face ID.

If the system confirms the match, access to the locked account will be given instantly.

However, Meta’s demo shows that users can choose between automatic recognition or a manual review. This means if some users prefer not to use facial recognition, they will have the option to opt out.

Meta also assures users that the video data is deleted immediately after the verification process is completed.

“As soon as someone uploads a video selfie, it will be encrypted and stored securely. It will never be visible on their profile, to friends or to other people on Facebook or Instagram. We immediately delete any facial data generated after this comparison regardless of whether there’s a match or not.” Meta mentions in a post.

Facial Recognition to Detect Celeb-Bait Ads and Impersonation

Photos of public figures and celebrities including content creators are often used to bait people into engaging with ads.

This also leads to scam websites where users are tricked into sharing their personal information or even scam for money.

Meta is planning to utilise the same facial technology technology to detect fraudulent ads with celebrity faces. “If our systems suspect that an ad may be a scam that contains the image of a public figure at risk for celeb bait, we will try to use facial recognition technology to compare faces in the ad to the public figure’s Facebook and Instagram profile pictures. If we confirm a match and determine the ad is a scam, we’ll block it,” Meta revealed in a post.

Meta Bans Private Jet Tracking Accounts

In a separate move, Meta finally takes action on private jet tracking accounts flooding its platforms.

Celebrity tracking on social media is a menace. Many accounts on Instagram and Threads keep track of celebrity movements including where they are flying to and coming from, which can be both intruding and security risk.

Meta has finally addressed this and is reportedly shutting down Instagram and Threads accounts that are dedicated to tracking private jets.

In a recent TechCrunch report, Meta said, “Given the risk of physical harm to individuals, and in keeping with the independent Oversight Board’s recommendation, we’ve disabled these accounts for violating our privacy policy.”

Some of the accounts deleted used to regularly share flight details of Taylor Swift, Bill Gates and the head of Meta himself, Mark Zuckerberg.

A college student named Jack Sweeney who operates a flight tracking account confirmed the Meta action on his personal handle. Sweeney has previously faced pushback from other platforms as well.

image
Jack Sweeney’s Threads post confirmed the account suspension.

Sweeney’s X (previously Twitter) handle @ElonJet account tracking Musk’s flights was suspended in Late 2022. He also reportedly was slapped with a cease-and-desist letter by Taylor Swift’s lawyers saying, “While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client.”

Flight tracking was made a little harder after the Biden administration allowed private aircraft owners to keep flight registration data anonymous.

However, Sweeney claims that his research along with the many tips he receives makes celeb flight tracking still possible.

What Sweeney Has to Say

Sweeney criticised Meta in a letter for not providing any warnings and explanation before suspending those accounts.

What makes this more troubling is that I’ve received no communication from Meta—no warnings, no explanation.

Reporters have reached out to Meta for clarification, but so far, there’s been silence.

No matter the intent, this situation reflects poorly on Meta. Across platforms like X and Threads, I’ve had a total of 38 accounts suspended.

The behavior is consistent: these platforms operate without transparency, and it feels like they make arbitrary decisions.

X, for example, continues using the same tactics as the old Twitter; the only difference now is who’s in charge.

Ironically, Elon Musk, who once criticized Twitter for its lack of free speech, is now using the very same techniques—shadow-banning jet-tracking accounts and blocking links to public information that tracks his jet.

It’s just a different form of suppression, rather than outright bans.
