Netflix is expanding its HDR options by adding support for HDR10+ alongside the existing HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats. This means viewers with compatible devices can enjoy even better picture quality, especially for Netflix’s often dark original content.

Announced in a detailed blog post, Netflix wrote, “HDR streaming has increased by more than 300%, while the number of HDR-configured devices watching Netflix has more than doubled. Since launching HDR with season one of Marco Polo, Netflix now has over 11,000 hours of HDR titles for members to immerse themselves in.”

What HDR10+ Brings to Netflix?

HDR10+ enhances visuals on a per-frame basis, adjusting brightness and contrast dynamically for a more lifelike experience. To enable this, Netflix is pairing HDR10+ with the AV1 codec, a compression technology designed to stream 4K video efficiently without consuming too much data.

Netflix initially introduced AV1 to help users save data while watching on mobile, but the same technology now ensures smooth streaming for large HDR files as well.

Who Can Watch in HDR10+?

Netflix has started rolling out HDR10+ support on select titles with plans to eventually expand it to all HDR content. To watch in HDR10+, you’ll need the following –

  • A Netflix Premium subscription
  • Show/Film must be available in HDR10+ format
  • A device that supports both HDR10+ and AV1 (most modern smartphones and tablets qualify)
  • For TV or streaming devices, ensure that the HDR toggle is enabled in Netflix application settings

Why Does HDR Matter?

After 4K resolution, high dynamic range (HDR) has become the next big thing in modern streaming. It improves contrast and makes bright and dark areas of an image more distinct. Many TV shows today are designed with HDR in mind, meaning that without it, some scenes may look too dark or washed out.

Netflix first introduced HDR in 2016 with Marco Polo and has since made Dolby Vision and HDR10 the standard.

If your TV already supports Dolby Vision, you may not notice much of a difference, but if it only supports HDR10+, this update will enhance your viewing experience.

FAQS

Amazon India Drops Referral Fees On 1.2 Crore Products In Under Rs 300 Price Category

0

  • Amazon India will eliminate referral fees on over 12 million products under ₹300 to support sellers.
  • It will impact products spanning 135+ categories starting April 7.

  • Amazon India supports over 1.6 million sellers, mainly small businesses in tier II-IV cities.

Amazon India is making a big move to support small businesses by eliminating referral fees on over 12 million products priced below ₹300 starting April 7. This is the company’s biggest fee reduction so far, aimed at helping sellers expand their selection and offer lower prices.

What’s Changing for Amazon Sellers?

The fee waiver will apply across 135+ product categories, including apparel, footwear, jewellery, groceries, home décor, beauty, toys, and kitchen essentials. Currently, sellers pay referral fees ranging from 2% to 16%, but this cost will now be removed for low-value products.

Amazon India is also making shipping more affordable for sellers using external fulfilment channels like Easy Ship and Seller Flex:

  • National shipping rates will drop from ₹77 to ₹65.
  • Weight handling fees for products under 1 kg will be reduced by up to ₹17.
  • Sellers shipping multiple units in one order could save up to 90% on the second unit’s selling fees.

Amit Nanda, Director of Selling Partner Services at Amazon India, explained that these changes are designed to reduce costs for sellers and help them compete better, especially for everyday low-priced products.

“As part of the continuing action to help sellers reduce their cost of doing business, we are now making a really large change in terms of the drop in selling fees on Amazon. [..] In the past also, we have made fee drops to help sellers. But they were more focused, and not as wide.” Nanda told ET. He also highlighted that referral and shipping fees account for nearly 90-95% of what sellers pay on the platform.

This move follows a fee reduction in August 2024, when Amazon lowered selling fees by 3% to 12% across 59 product sub-categories before the festive season.

Regulatory Challenges And Market Expansion

The fee cuts come at a time when Amazon India is under increasing regulatory scrutiny. In August 2024, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) found that both Amazon and Flipkart had violated antitrust laws by favouring select sellers. The case, which began in 2020, is now being heard by the Karnataka High Court.

Meanwhile, Amazon India continues to grow, hosting over 1.6 million sellers, 90% of whom are small and medium businesses. Over 50% of these sellers are based in tier II, III and IV cities.

In September 2024, Samir Kumar took over as Amazon India’s country manager replacing Manish Tiwary. The company also entered the quick-commerce space in December 2024, launching a 15-minute delivery service in Bengaluru.

FAQs

Q1. What change is Amazon India implementing for products under ₹300?

Answer. Amazon India is removing referral fees on over 12 million products priced below ₹300 across 135+ categories starting April 7.

Q2. How is Amazon reducing shipping costs for sellers?

Answer. Amazon is dropping National shipping rates from ₹77 to ₹65, weight handling fees for products under 1 kg are being reduced by up to ₹17, and multi-unit shipping costs will decrease significantly.

Q3. What is the goal of these fee reductions by Amazon India?

Answer. The latest Amazon changes aim to support small businesses, lower sellers’ costs, and help them offer more competitive prices for low-value products.

Reports suggest that China will get the Z10 Turbo first with an eventual rollout to other markets. Some leaks even hint at a larger 7,600mAh battery for the Chinese variant, though brands often tweak battery capacities for different regions. So, it’s best to take these numbers with some scepticism.

The iQOO Z10 Turbo is rumoured to feature a 6.78-inch flat OLED LTPS display with 1.5K resolution. For cameras, it may sport a 16MP front camera, while the back will house a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary camera.

Under the hood, the phone is expected to be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 chipset, making it a strong mid-range contender. Charging should also be fast, with leaks pointing to 90W fast charging support.

Other expected features include a short-focus in-display fingerprint sensor and a plastic middle frame. While iQOO hasn’t officially confirmed the Z10 Turbo, the increasing number of leaks suggests it could be launching soon.

The device was also spotted on Geekbench hinting at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Elite processor, Android 15, 12GB RAM and an Adreno 825 GPU, positioning it as a performance-focused mid-range phone.

Interestingly, the Z10 Turbo Pro is expected to feature a 7,000mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the standard Z10’s 7,600mAh capacity, but its 120W charging speed is a major upgrade, bringing it closer to iQOO’s flagship 13 series.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the Z10 Turbo Pro will also come with a 6.78-inch 1.5K display with LTPS backlighting, a plastic mid-frame and an optical fingerprint sensor, design choices that help keep costs down. It follows the Z9 Turbo, which packed a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip and a 6,000mAh battery.

While the standard iQOO Z10 5G launches in India on April 11, 2025, there’s still no official confirmation on whether iQOO will bring the Z10 Turbo Pro to global markets. However, with all these leaks surfacing, it might not be long before we hear more.

Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. While rumours about a foldable iPhone have been circulating for years, Gurman confirms that Apple is actively working on it. Unlike a clamshell-style foldable, this device will have a book-style fold, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold.

Apple’s foldable iPhone will borrow key technologies from the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which is set to be one of Apple’s thinnest products ever, measuring just 5.5mm thick.

The iPhone 17 Air will make some compromises, particularly with speakers and cameras, but will still deliver the full iPhone experience, including solid battery life.

Apple is using this ultra-thin design as a testbed to see how many components can fit in a slimmer form factor, an essential step toward making a foldable iPhone.

Apple’s Foldable iPhone – What We Know So Far?

  • Expected Price: Around $2,000
  • Release Year: 2026 (part of the iPhone 18 lineup)
  • Outer Display: 5.5 inches
  • Inner Display: 7.8 inches (similar to an iPad mini)
  • Availability: Limited at first as production ramps up

While details are still scarce, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that the foldable iPhone will feature a compact outer display and a larger inner screen, offering a tablet-like experience.

Revealing details in their blog, Kuo wrote, “The foldable iPhone will have a book-style design, featuring an approximately 7.8-inch crease-free inner display and an approximately 5.5-inch outer display.”

According to the same blog post, it was also disclosed that the “final specs will be locked in 2Q25, with the official project kickoff in 3Q25 and mass production slated for 4Q26.”

With Apple’s focus on ultra-thin designs and foldable tech, 2026 could be a major turning point for iPhones.

FAQs

Q1. When will Apple’s first foldable iPhone be released?

Answer. Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to launch in 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 lineup.

Q2. What are the expected specifications of the foldable iPhone?

Answer. The foldable iPhone is rumoured to feature a 5.5″ outer display, a 7.8″ inner display, and a book-style fold, with an estimated price of around $2,000.

Q3. What design inspiration does the foldable iPhone take from the iPhone 17 Air?

Answer. The foldable iPhone is inspired by the ultra-thin 5.5mm design of the iPhone 17 Air, which serves as a testbed for fitting components into a slimmer form factor.

Future Apple Watch Models Could Get Cameras As Part of AI Push, Apple Watch SE’s Plastic Design In Jeopardy, Says Gurman

0

Highlights

  • Apple is exploring camera-equipped Apple Watch models to align with its AI-driven Visual Intelligence strategy for release by 2027.
  • Plans for a plastic Apple Watch SE face hurdles due to design aesthetics and cost, making its future uncertain.
  • The upcoming Ultra model is expected to include satellite texting and 5G connectivity with advancements in AI integration.

Apple is exploring ways to make the Apple Watch a more AI-driven wearable and one of the key changes could be the addition of cameras. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on multiple versions of future Apple Watch models that will include cameras to help the device “see the outside world.”

This move aligns with Apple’s broader AI strategy, particularly its Visual Intelligence technology, which the company also plans to bring to AirPods. Right now, Visual Intelligence heavily relies on ChatGPT and Google, but Apple wants to change that.

Gurman writes, “Apple’s ultimate plan for Visual Intelligence goes far beyond the iPhone. The company wants to put the feature at the core of future devices, including the camera-equipped AirPods that I’ve been writing about for several months. Along the way, Apple also wants to shift Visual Intelligence toward its own AI models, rather than those from OpenAI and Google.”

Apple is reportedly developing camera-equipped versions of both the standard Apple Watch and the Ultra model. The standard Apple Watch will have the camera built directly into the display, similar to the iPhone. However, it’s unclear whether this would use under-display technology or require a visible cutout.

Meanwhile, the camera in the Apple Watch Ultra would be placed on the side of the watch, next to the digital crown and side button. This placement would make it easier for Ultra users to point their wrists at objects to scan.

According to Gurman, these camera-equipped Apple Watch models won’t launch before 2027, alongside the rumoured AirPods with cameras. Apple’s AI teams are still working on the underlying technology, and a recent executive shake-up could impact development timelines.

Apple Watch SE’s Plastic Design in Jeopardy

Meanwhile, Apple’s rumoured plan to switch the next-generation Apple Watch SE to a plastic design is facing serious challenges.

Last year, Bloomberg reported that Apple was considering using rigid plastic for the Watch SE to lower costs. However, Gurman now says this plan is “in serious jeopardy” because the design team doesn’t like how it looks and the company hasn’t been able to make it cheaper than the current aluminium casing.

Gurman explains, “And the redesigned, plastic Apple Watch SE I’ve written about is also in serious jeopardy. The design team doesn’t like the look, and the operations team is finding it difficult to make the casing materially cheaper than the current aluminium chassis.”

It remains to be seen whether Apple will overcome these issues. However, the Apple Watch SE is nearly three years old, so a refresh is likely in the next six months.

Moreover, Gurman reiterates that the next-generation Apple Watch Ultra will gain satellite texting support and 5G connectivity.
