iOS 19 May Drop Support for Three iPhone Models, Gurman Reveals Redesign Details

0

Highlights

  • iOS 19 may drop support for iPhone XR, XS and XS Max models while newer devices from iPhone 11 onward will remain eligible.
  • Mark Gurman describes iOS 19 as the most dramatic redesign since iOS 7.
  • It is expected to focus on consistent controls, glassy UI effects and unified cross-platform elements.

Apple is just a couple of months away from unveiling iOS 19 at WWDC25. However, we don’t have to wait for that long to know key details. A new rumour suggests that iOS 19 is expected top drop support for three iPhone models that were released in September 2018. Here’s our report.

iPhones That May Lose iOS 19 Support

The rumour comes from an account on X that has previously shared accurate details about Apple’s software updates. Even though the particular account is currently private and anonymous, if the report is true, iOS 19 will no longer support the following iPhone models –

  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max

Even if these iPhones don’t get iOS 19, they will still receive software updates from Apple.

If the leak is correct, iOS 19 will be available on these devices:

  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16e, 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)

Meanwhile, iPadOS 19 is rumoured to drop support for the iPad (7th generation), which launched in 2019 with an A10 Fusion chip.

This contradicts a previous iPhoneSoft leak from December, which claimed that all iPhones running iOS 18 would also support iOS 19. Both sources have a solid track record, but iPhoneSoft incorrectly reported in 2021 that iOS 15 would drop support for iPhone 6s and the original iPhone SE. Those devices were actually dropped with iOS 16 the following year.

Major iOS 19 Redesign Details Revealed by Gurman

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently spoke about iOS 19’s new design during a live Q&A, calling it the biggest redesign since iOS 7.

According to the official transcript, during the call Gurman was asked about what makes this redesign significant. The question was, “You’ve reported that iOS 19 will feature a major redesign. What makes it so significant?”

Gurman explained, “The big thing with this redesign is consistent controls, icons, buttons, user interface dynamics and mechanisms across both iOS and macOS. The interfaces between the iPad, the Mac and the iPhone, they have a lot of similarities, but they have a lot of differences.”

“Things like hamburger menus and menu buttons, and the menu bar, and buttons for closing applications, the way the dock looks and acts. There are a lot of differences across the operating systems. So it’s about adding consistency there. It’s about adding glassy effects across the user interface. It’s about rejiggering some applications for a new generation of users to better understand, to make it seem more unified between the individual and the devices. So it’s gonna be a pretty dramatic set of changes. It could take a little bit of getting used to, but I think in the end people are going to like it,” Gurman further added.

When asked whether all Apple apps will get this new design, he responded, “I can’t speak for every app, but I would imagine that [with] the core applications you’re going to see the user interface elements updated to be more akin to visionOS, to get this consistency across both platforms, to get this consistent, the glass effects throughout the user interface.”

Finally, he emphasised how dramatic these changes will be, saying, “I think it’s going to be the biggest redesign to iOS since iOS 7 over 10 years ago back in 2013. So, it’s going to be quite a bit different, right? That new glass effect I think is going to be quite interesting and I think it’s going to look good.”

With WWDC 2025 coming soon, we’ll find out soon if these leaks turn out to be true.

Highlights

  • The Pixel 10 Pro Fold renders show a design almost identical to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
  • Renders show the SIM card slot relocated to the top.
  • The renders feature two unusual cutouts on the open edge, likely for antenna placement, aligning symmetrically with the USB-C port on the bottom.
  • The Pixel 10 Pro Fold may be offered at a lower price point in 2025.

It seems that leading smartphone manufacturers aren’t too keen on introducing major changes in their 2025 lineup. Recently, Android Headlines shared Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold renders in association with OnLeaks to reveal a closer look at the design. According to the leaked renders, Google isn’t making any major design changes for its 2025 foldable.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Renders – Familiar Design with Small Tweaks

image

Caption – Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Renders. (Image credit – Android Headlines/OnLeaks)

The new renders show a device that looks nearly identical to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, one noticeable change is the relocation of the SIM card slot to the top. This matches what’s rumoured for the Pixel 10 and Pixel 9a as well.

image

Caption – Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Renders. (Image credit – Android Headlines/OnLeaks)

One strange detail in the renders is the appearance of two cutouts on the left (open) edge. They seem to mirror the power button/fingerprint sensor and volume rocker, possibly for antenna placement since there’s no cutout on the top edge.

The symmetry looks intentional, but these mirrored cutouts also appear opposite the USB-C port on the bottom.

Unlike previous Pixel 10 series leaks, these renders don’t come with dimensions, so it’s unclear if Google is trying to make the foldable thinner this year. Interestingly, OnLeaks hinted that this information existed but wasn’t included in the report.

There’s also a hint at a lower price. According to Android Headlines, “other sources” claim that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold “will be offered at a lower price point this year.” However, there are no further details on how much cheaper it will be.

FAQs

Q1. What design changes are seen in the Pixel 10 Pro Fold renders?

Answer. The renders show minimal design changes, with the SIM card slot relocated to the top and two unusual cutouts on the open edge, likely for antenna placement.

Q2. Is there any indication of pricing for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold?

Answer. According to the report, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold may be offered at a lower price point in 2025, although specific pricing details are not yet available.

Q3. Do the renders suggest changes to the foldable’s thickness?

Answer. The leaked renders do not include dimensions, leaving it unclear if Google is trying to make the Pixel 10 Pro Fold thinner this year.

Highlights

  • A leaked Apple Watch Series 10 prototype reveals a unique health sensor arrangement.
  • It includes smaller sensors and an unseen extra light ring on the back.
  • Apple reportedly tested blood pressure and blood glucose sensors during the Series 10 development.
  • The prototype is running an internal watchOS 11.1 build suggesting ongoing experimentation.

A leaked prototype of the Apple Watch Series 10 suggests Apple may have had some interesting plans for last year’s model. While the official release brought a refreshed design, it kept the same health sensors as the Series 9. However, this prototype hints at features that never made it to the final version.

Apple Watch Series 10 Prototype – Unseen Health Sensor Arrangement

Apple leaker and collector StellaFudge shared images of the prototype on X (formerly Twitter) recently and revealed a “very unique health sensor arrangement.” The design differs not only from the Series 10 but from any Apple Watch released so far.

EMBED POST –

According to the leaker, the prototype’s heart rate and blood oxygen sensors are much smaller than Apple’s current ones. More interestingly, the back of the watch features an “extra light ring” positioned between the ECG and heart rate sensors, something never seen on an Apple Watch before.

image

Rumours have long suggested that Apple is developing blood pressure and blood glucose sensors for the Apple Watch. It’s believed that these new sensors were tested during the Series 10’s development but were ultimately delayed in favour of the updated design.

The leaked prototype was likely used for the internal testing of these health features.

Apple Watch Series 10 Prototype – Apple’s Internal Testing

image

Caption – The prototype watch is running an unreleased build of watchOS11. (Image credit – @StellaFudge on X)

Although the prototype is fully functional, it runs an internal version of watchOS 11.1. Since it doesn’t have stock apps installed, which can only be downloaded through Apple’s internal network, it’s unclear whether any new health features were included in the software.

Moreover, the prototype’s software build dates back to October 2024, which could mean that Apple is still experimenting with these advanced health sensors. There is a chance we will be able finally see them in the next Apple Watch.

FAQs

Q1. What does the leaked Apple Watch Series 10 prototype reveal?

Answer. The prototype shows a unique health sensor arrangement, including smaller heart rate and blood oxygen sensors, as well as an unseen “extra light ring.”

Q2. What advanced health features were tested for the Series 10?

Answer. Apple reportedly tested blood pressure and blood glucose sensors during the development of Series 10 but delayed their inclusion to prioritize design updates.

Q3. What does the prototype’s software suggest about Apple’s plans?

Answer. Running an internal watchOS 11.1 build from October 2024, the prototype indicates Apple is still experimenting with advanced health sensors, possibly for future models.

It’s no news that Apple has been working to diversify its production and expand operations beyond China for a while now. Ramping up India production of iPhones is one way the Cupertino Giant is doing that. Now, a local report suggests Apple is set to more than double the number of iPhones made in India this year as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce its reliance on China. Here’s what we know.

Foxconn Ramping Up Production

Foxconn is a key Apple supplier and has been conducting trials to scale up production while maintaining Apple’s strict quality standards at its newest iPhone plant in India.

For years, Apple has been gradually expanding its manufacturing presence in India. Initially producing only the iPhone SE, the company now assembles its latest flagship models there. Reports suggest Apple aims to manufacture 25% of all iPhones in India by 2027.

The Indian government has supported this expansion with tax breaks on imported components under the ‘Made in India’ initiative. Meanwhile, China has been accused of trying to hinder these efforts.

Foxconn’s Ambitious Plans

According to The Economic Times, Foxconn is responding to Apple’s request to significantly increase iPhone production in India, even setting up a new plant in Bengaluru.

The report states, Foxconn aims to churn out 25-30 million iPhones at its India plants this year, more than double the number it made last year […] said people aware of the development.”

A source told ET, “Last year, the company assembled about 12 million iPhones in India. But with their Bengaluru facility also coming up quickly, they have set their ambitions a lot higher, in line with Apple’s push to deepen their presence in India.”

Foxconn reportedly began limited production trials a few months ago and is now focusing on maintaining quality while scaling up operations.

Analysts say these production numbers align with expectations, keeping Apple on track to manufacture 25% of its iPhones in India as early as next year.

World’s Slimmest Foldable Oppo Find N5 Fails Durability Bend Test

0

Highlights

  • The Oppo Find N5 failed JerryRigEverything’s bend test with its inner display damaged during stress.
  • The phone’s slim aluminum middle frame is not dustproof.
  • The hinge is strong for everyday use and the reduced screen crease marks a significant improvement over previous models.

image

Caption – Oppo Find N5 durability test. (Image credit – YouTube channel JerryRigEverything)

Oppo’s Find N5 has been introduced as the world’s slimmest book-style foldable phone. However, when popular YouTuber Zack Nelson of YouTube Channel JerryRigEverything recently put the device through his signature durability test, the results were not as promising.

Oppo Find N5 Scratches And Fails the Bend Test

JerryRigEverything’s test revealed the phone features an aluminum middle frame, a glass-protected outer display and a soft inner display. During the scratch test, the inner screen started scratching at level 2 on the Mohs hardness scale, while the outer display held up better, scratching at level 6, which is expected for a phone with these materials.

image

Caption – Dust test on Oppo Find N5. (Image credit – YouTube channel JerryRigEverything)

However, things went downhill in the bend test. YouTuber Nelson covered the hinge with dust, and some particles made their way inside. While the hinge is water-resistant, it is not dustproof, which led to issues when folding the phone.

image

Caption – Lines appeared on the display of Oppo Find N5 during the dust test. (Image credit – YouTube channel JerryRigEverything)

When the Find N5 was bent horizontally while folded, dust particles inside the hinge caused two lines of dead pixels to appear on the inner screen. This is a stark contrast to the OnePlus Open, which survived the same test without damage.

image

Caption – Oppo Find N5 failed the bend test. (Image credit – YouTube channel JerryRigEverything)

The biggest disappointment came when the phone was bent vertically with the hinge unfolded, the inner display was completely damaged.

A possible reason for this failure could be the phone’s slim design. A thicker middle frame made from the same material might have provided better structural strength, preventing the damage seen in the test.

While Oppo claims the hinge can withstand up to 50 kg of pressure without damage, those tests were conducted in a controlled environment with force applied in a specific way. Real-world usage conditions can vary significantly.

Oppo Find N5 – Impressive Hinge Strength and Crease Reduction

Despite the durability concerns, the hinge remains strong enough to withstand most everyday accidents. One positive takeaway is that the crease on the Find N5 is less visible than its predecessor, something Oppo has improved upon and deserves credit for.

Here’s the full video for you to check out –

FAQs

Q1. Did the Oppo Find N5 pass the durability test by JerryRigEverything?

Answer. No, the Oppo Find N5 failed the bend test, with its inner display completely damaged when bent vertically, despite its hinge being water resistant.

Q2. What contributed to the Oppo Find N5’s durability issues?

Answer. The phone’s slim aluminum middle frame and the hinge’s lack of dust protection caused problems during the test, leading to screen damage.

Q3. What improvements has Oppo made in the Find N5 despite its durability concerns?

Answer. Oppo improved the hinge strength for everyday use and reduced the screen crease visibility compared to its predecessor.
