Apple is getting ready to open more retail stores in India. The company already has two stores, one in Mumbai and another in New Delhi, but now it’s expanding its presence across the country. The Google Play Store has seen a big drop in the number of apps available this year. According to a report from Appfigures, the total number of apps on the Play Store went from about 3.4 million at the start of 2024 to just 1.8 million by 2025, a sharp 47% decrease.

Meanwhile, Apple’s App Store actually grew slightly and now has around 1.64 million apps.

The massive cleanup is part of Google’s effort to make the Play Store safer for users. The company has been tightening its rules and cracking down on apps that break policies or pose security risks.

Google now uses a mix of human reviewers and AI tools to scan apps more thoroughly. It also introduced mandatory testing for all new developer accounts and expanded its developer verification process.

Google is getting ready to launch Android 16 in the next couple of months and a new report reveals it’s bringing one of the biggest design changes in years. Along with earlier hints about updated Lock Screen widgets, the latest word points to a full visual refresh that includes changes to the Status Bar, Quick Settings and more. Here’s a round-up of all we know.

Android 16 – What to Expect?

As reported by Android Authority, Android 16 will give Android phones a cleaner and more modern look. Starting with the Status Bar, the update will include a bolder font for the 5G icon, a new left-aligned clock that appears bigger than in Android 15, and battery and charging icons redesigned to resemble iOS.

Revamped Notifications & Quick Settings

One of the biggest updates is coming to the Notifications and Quick Settings panel. Android 16 will bring a combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggle, a more streamlined tile editor, and the ability to resize Quick Settings tiles. There will also be a one-click shortcut for quickly adding or removing tiles. Even the brightness slider is getting a fresh new design.

Samsung is reportedly going back to its original plan for this year’s foldables. A new report says the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500 chip, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will stick with a Snapdragon processor.

There’s been a lot of confusion around this decision. At first, Samsung was expected to use the Exynos 2500 in the Flip 7, marking the first time a foldable from the brand would move away from Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon chips. But after some performance and production issues with Exynos, reports suggested the company might revert to Snapdragon for both models.

Now, it looks like Samsung is sticking with the Exynos plan for the Flip 7 after all.

According to a report from Chosun Daily, Samsung’s decision comes down to two main factors, which are cost and chip yield. Qualcomm’s chip apparently raised costs by “more than 20%,” which would’ve been hard to absorb in the Flip 7’s pricing.

“It appears the company has determined that yield has stabilised to a workable level. The relatively smaller shipment volumes of foldable phones, compared to the Galaxy S series, also made it easier to opt for Exynos,” an industry official was quoted in Chosun Daily report on condition of anonymity.

Even though the Exynos 2500 yield is still low, around 20–40%, far below Samsung’s usual target of 60% for large-scale production, the company is moving forward with it anyway. The cost savings seem to outweigh the concerns, especially since the Flip model is more price-sensitive than the Fold.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will continue to use Snapdragon, likely because it’s positioned as the more premium device.

Apple has announced its earnings for fiscal Q2 2025, reporting $95.4 billion in revenue for the quarter. This is up from $90.75 billion during the same period last year. This number also beats Wall Street’s expectations of $94.68 billion. Profit for the quarter stood at $24.78 billion.

Will Apple Raise Product Prices?

During the earnings call, Tim Cook addressed the possibility of product price hikes due to tariffs. Apple expects to absorb $900 million in tariff costs this quarter. For now, that cost isn’t being passed on to customers but Cook didn’t rule out future increases.

“Obviously, we’re very engaged on the tariff discussions,” Cook said.

“We believe in engagement and will continue to engage. On the pricing piece, we have nothing to announce today. I’ll just say that the operational team has done an incredible job around optimizing the supply chain of the inventory, and we’ll obviously continue to do those things to the degree that we can,” Cook explains.

Apple is already shifting manufacturing out of China, ramping up production in India for U.S.-bound devices and using Vietnam for other hardware. Still, tariff exemptions could change, especially if U.S. trade policy tightens.

For the March quarter, we had a limited impact from tariffs as we were able to optimize our supply chain and inventory. However, for some color, assuming the current global tariff rates, policies, and applications do not change for the balance of the quarter, and no new tariffs are added, we estimate the impact to add $900 million to our costs. For our part, we will manage the company the way we always have, with thoughtful and deliberate decisions, with a focus on investing for the long term, and with dedication to innovation and the possibilities it creates.”

Xiaomi has officially launched its first open-source large language AI model named MiMo-7B. Created by its newly formed Big Model Core Team, MiMo-7B is built to handle reasoning-heavy tasks and coding.

According to reports, the AI Model is already outperforming some big names in the field such as OpenAI and Alibaba when it comes to math and code-related benchmarks. Here’s what we know about the model as of now.

Xiaomi’s MiMo-7B is a 7-billion-parameter model. Even though it’s much smaller than most of today’s top models, Xiaomi says it can match the performance of larger systems like OpenAI’s o1-mini and Alibaba’s Qwen-32B-Preview. All three models are designed for tasks that involve logical reasoning.

How Xiaomi MiMo-7B Was Trained?

The strength of MiMo-7B comes from its intense training process. Xiaomi put together a dense dataset with 200 billion reasoning tokens and trained the model with a total of 25 trillion tokens across three phases.

Instead of the usual next-token prediction method, Xiaomi used a multiple-token prediction approach, which it says speeds up inference without sacrificing quality.

After pre-training, Xiaomi applied several techniques to fine-tune the model. It introduced a unique reinforcement learning method called Test Difficulty Driven Reward to solve the issue of weak reward signals in complex RL tasks. It also used something called Easy Data Re-Sampling to keep the training stable.

On the infrastructure side, Xiaomi built a Seamless Rollout system that helps reduce GPU downtime during training and validation. Thanks to this, Xiaomi claims a 2.29× boost in training speed and nearly 2× better validation performance. This system also supports more advanced inference strategies like multiple-token prediction in vLLM environments.

MiMo-7B Goes Open Source

There are four versions of MiMo-7B available to the public:

  • Base – The raw, pre-trained version
  • SFT – Fine-tuned using supervised learning
  • RL-Zero – Reinforcement-learned from the base version

The latest leak, shared by WinFuture, includes detailed images and the full spec sheet of the Galaxy S25 Edge, confirming nearly everything about the device.

As previously rumoured, the phone is just 5.85mm thick, making it one of Samsung’s slimmest phones yet. It also uses some interesting new materials. The back is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the display is covered with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, not the Gorilla Armor 2 used on the S25 Ultra.  The display itself is a 6.7-inch 1440p panel.

The new leak also confirms previous rumours that the Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, along with 12GB of RAM. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB variants.

One of the biggest trade-offs for the slim design is the battery. It’s confirmed to have a 3,900 mAh battery, just like earlier rumours suggested. That’s 1,000 mAh less than what you get in the Galaxy S25+, or about 20% less capacity. On the plus side, the phone is very light, weighing only 163g.

The phone will be available in three colours, Titanium Silver, Titanium Icyblue and Titanium Jet Black.

The Galaxy S25 Edge won’t have a telephoto camera, but it will feature the same 200 MP main sensor found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, using a 1/1.3″ sensor. The ultrawide camera is a 12 MP unit with a 1/2.55″ sensor, identical to what’s found on the Galaxy S25 and S25+. That means the S25 Ultra’s 50 MP ultrawide camera will remain exclusive to that model.

While the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens might disappoint some, the 200 MP main camera is capable of delivering solid 2x zoom shots. We saw this in action in the Galaxy S25 Ultra review. Customers will probably be eyeing the S25 Edge for how slim it is, not for top-tier camera performance.

And unlike the iPhone 17 Air, it at least includes an ultrawide shooter.

An Apple Watch played a crucial role in saving the life of a 57-year-old man from Ohio after he suffered a stroke while working out.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, Derick Grant was skipping rope in his driveway on a hot summer day when he decided to push himself a little harder. Soon after finishing his workout, he collapsed and lost feeling in his arms and legs.

Based on the viral video, it was claimed that Grant’s Apple Watch detected the fall using its Fall Detection feature and asked if he wanted to call emergency services. At first, Grant dismissed it, thinking he just needed a moment to recover. But as his condition didn’t improve, he accepted the prompt and called for help.
