Apple Once Tested AirPods in Bright Pink and Yellow, New Images Reveal

0

Highlights

  • Newly leaked images show Apple once tested AirPods in bright pink and yellow.
  • These prototypes were fully developed designs and were reportedly aimed at appealing to younger, expressive users.
  • Apple has also been experimenting with Pink, Product Red, Purple, Black and Blonde AirPod colours.

We know Apple for its clean design philosophy, but newly leaked images indicate the company once considered a much bolder look for AirPods. Fresh photos shared by leaker Kosutami @Kosutami_Ito on X show early AirPods prototypes and reveal an experimental design choice that never reached consumers.

Early AirPods Prototypes Reveal Apple’s Colourful Experiments

According to reports, these colourful prototypes are believed to date back to the development phase of the first-generation AirPods. While Apple ultimately launched the earbuds only in white, internal testing reportedly included several vibrant colour options.

The newly surfaced images add weight to earlier reports suggesting Apple explored finishes inspired by the playful colour scheme of the iPhone 5c.

The pink and yellow variants, in particular, appear to reflect Apple’s past efforts to appeal to younger users and those looking for more expressive devices. Notably, these prototypes seem to be fully developed designs rather than early-stage mock-ups, indicating serious consideration within Apple’s product teams.

Apple’s Experiments with Colourful AirPods

This is not the first time evidence has emerged of Apple experimenting with different AirPods colours. Back in 2023, Kosutami revealed that Apple had tested AirPods in colours meant to complement the iPhone 7 series including Pink, Product Red, Purple, Black and Blonde. Despite these trials, Apple chose to stick with its signature white finish for the final consumer release.

Among those earlier experiments, the purple version was reportedly dropped before launch. This aligns with Apple’s long-standing approach of testing bold colour options internally before settling on more conservative choices for mass-market products.

However, Apple continues to sell its standard AirPods and AirPods Pro only in white.

The newly revealed prototypes offer a glimpse of how different the AirPods lineup could have looked if Apple had embraced a more playful design language early on. They also join a growing list of unreleased Apple products that have intrigued enthusiasts over the years, such as the cancelled AirPower charging mat and various prototype devices linked to Apple Vision hardware.

FAQs

Q1. What did the leaked images of AirPods prototypes reveal?

Answer. They showed Apple once tested bright pink and yellow AirPods, inspired by the playful iPhone 5c design.

Q2. When were these colourful AirPods prototypes developed?

Answer. They are believed to date back to the first‑generation AirPods development phase, though Apple only released white models.

Q3. Has Apple experimented with other AirPods colours before?

Answer. Yes, in 2023 leaks revealed Apple tested colours like Pink, Product Red, Purple, Black, and Blonde, but none reached consumers.

Samsung May Source BOE Displays for Galaxy Phones and Smart TVs, Production of Next-Gen AI Memory Chip to Start in 2026

0

Highlights

  • Samsung is reportedly in discussions with BOE to source OLED panels for Galaxy smartphones and LCD panels for smart TVs.
  • Samsung and SK Hynix are preparing to mass-produce next-gen HBM4 AI memory chips.
  • Samsung is expected to start as early as February 2026, ahead of rivals like Micron.
  • Both companies are set to supply Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin AI accelerator, offering nearly double bandwidth and about 40% better power efficiency.

Samsung is reportedly considering sourcing display panels from China-based Beijing Orient Electronics (BOE) for its upcoming Galaxy smartphones and smart TVs. Meanwhile, there are also hints on mass manufacturing HBM4 AI memory chips. Here’s a roundup of recent Samsung related lore.

Samsung and BOE Reportedly Discuss Renewed Collaboration

image

As per a report by South Korean publication DealSite, BOE Chairman Chen Yanshun recently met with multiple Samsung executives including TM Roh, President and Head of the DX Division and the MX Business. Citing industry insiders and sources familiar with the discussions, the report claims that talks covered the supply of large LCD panels for televisions as well as small-sized OLED displays for mobile devices.

BOE has previously supplied OLED panels for Samsung’s entry-level Galaxy smartphones. However, the partnership reportedly came to a halt last year after tensions escalated due to a patent dispute involving BOE and Samsung Display. Following the breakdown in ties, Samsung Electronics is believed to have sourced limited OLED supplies from another Chinese display manufacturer, Tianma.

The report adds that BOE is now looking to rejoin Samsung’s supply chain and is said to be pushing to supply panels beyond just budget smartphones. The company is reportedly interested in supplying displays for higher-end Galaxy models as well. Although there is no confirmation that Samsung has agreed to such an arrangement.

BOE already supplies OLED panels to several Chinese smartphone brands including Oppo, Huawei, and Vivo. It is also said to be a limited supplier for certain iPhone models.

In addition to smartphones, BOE has reportedly requested an increase in the number of LCD panels it supplies for Samsung’s televisions. Before the patent dispute, BOE was supplying roughly 10 million TV LCD panels annually to Samsung. That figure reportedly dropped sharply to around 1 million units after relations soured.

Samsung and SK Hynix Said to Prepare for HBM4 Mass Production

Separately, South Korean outlet SEDaily has now reported that Samsung and SK Hynix are planning to begin mass production of HBM4 AI memory chips. Other industry players including Micron are not expected to start manufacturing these chips until 2026, which could give the two Korean giants a significant lead in the market.

Among them, Samsung is reportedly set to begin production first with manufacturing expected to start as early as February.

The report claims that these next-generation memory chips are unlikely to reach the consumer market. Instead, both Samsung and SK Hynix are said to have separate agreements with Nvidia to supply HBM4 memory for its upcoming AI accelerator, Vera Rubin. A recent SamMobile report also suggested that Samsung has passed Nvidia’s quality tests, making it eligible to supply the required chips.

SK Hynix is reportedly working with TSMC to adopt a 12nm logic process for the base die, which acts as the control unit of the HBM4 chip. Samsung, on the other hand, is said to be using a more advanced 10nm logic process for the same purpose.

The HBM4 standard is expected to deliver nearly double the bandwidth along with power efficiency improvements of close to 40 percent. It is also said to offer greater customisability for both AI and non-AI applications, enabling better integration with different chipsets.

In terms of production scale, Samsung is reportedly manufacturing around 6,50,000 DRAM units per month, compared to SK Hynix’s 5,50,000 units. A similar gap is said to exist in HBM production with Samsung producing approximately 1,70,000 units per month, around 10,000 more than SK Hynix.

Realme phone appears online with a 10,000mAh battery.

Realme was the first smartphone brand to openly tease the concept of a phone with a massive 10,000mAh battery. A Russian tech blog has now published an image of an upcoming Realme smartphone that reportedly houses a 10,001mAh battery.

The device is said to carry the model number RMX5107 and has also been certified for Hi-Res Audio, indicating a focus on enhanced sound quality alongside battery life.

The leaked image reveals that the smartphone runs Realme UI 7.0 and features 12GB of RAM paired with 256GB of internal storage. Additionally, the smartphone has received certification from Europe’s EEC authority. This approval suggests that the device has cleared key regulatory steps and is likely gearing up for an official announcement in the near future.

Meanwhile, Realme isn’t the only brand playing with the idea of a 10,000mAh battery. Honor has already launched the Honor Win lineup ahead of Realme with similar battery specs.

The Honor Win and Honor Win RT have already made headlines as the world’s first commercially available smartphones equipped with a 10,000mAh battery. That said, fresh developments suggest Realme is not too far behind in this battery race.
