Highlights
- The OnePlus Open 2 launch is delayed until early 2025.
- The delay allows for the integration of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
- The new foldable will feature a redesigned display with reduced crease visibility.
- The OnePlus Open 2 will launch alongside the Oppo Find N5 series.
When it launched, the OnePlus Open was one of the best foldable smartphones around.
But reports are emerging that its successor, the OnePlus Open 2, will be delayed and won’t be available until early 2025.
OnePlus Open 2: Design Overhaul

The Open 2 was scheduled to launch in the late 2023 calendar year.
But the delay will allowi OnePlus to carry the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset from Qualcomm into the new foldable instead of the older 8 Gen 3 processor, which is nearing the end of its life cycle.
In addition to a chipset upgrade, the OnePlus Open 2 is said to have improved the display crease when the foldable screen is closed.
Minimizing this crease has been an ongoing challenge for foldable makers, but OnePlus and its sibling Oppo have made significant inroads in the last few models.
Leaked information says that the Open 2 will use “super flat” glass on the inner folding display, and that has resulted in a smaller, and presumably less noticeable, crease. Still, there are diminishing returns past a certain point.
Expected timeline and processor

The expected launch date for the Open 2 is Q1 2025, which jives with previous speculation.
This aligns with when we could see the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-powered devices hit the market—at least in China—by the end of 2024.
Just like the OnePlus Open last year was actually just a rebadged Oppo Find N3, the Open 2 is expected to launch about the same time as the Oppo Find N5 series foldable—ahead of October 2024.
The two companies have continued to closely coordinate their foldable launches.
While the improvements all sound pretty tantalizing, the rather lengthy delay until early 2025 may be disappointing to OnePlus fans and foldable enthusiasts who want to get their hands on the Open 2 as soon as possible.

YouTube’s Controversial Redesign Returns: Users Criticize New Layout
Highlights
- YouTube reintroduces controversial redesign, shifting video details to the side
- Initial user feedback on the redesign remains largely negative
- YouTube states the changes are part of an “experiment” with no clear end date
- The redesign may indicate YouTube is gathering more data and user feedback
YouTube seems to be reverting to a controversial redesign of its site, despite rampant negativity when the platform originally tested the new look earlier this year.
In mid-April, Google started testing a redesign that shifted the video title, description, and comments to the side of the screen.
In their place were video recommendations, just to the side of the video playing, with larger thumbnails and titles.
Most who saw it hated it.
Although the redesign did not appear for everyone, YouTube later scrapped the changes in the weeks that followed, as the criticism was all negative.
Criticism of New Design

But the terrible YouTube redesign has made a comeback.
A number of users have been reporting seeing the new look appear over the last few days, although it doesn’t appear to be a general rollout yet.

This seems like another round of testing.
The reemergence of this facelift begs the question of YouTube’s intentions.
It’s not sure whether this new layout will be the default experience, but with YouTube testing it over and over, it means they are collecting more data and feedback.
User Feedback

Some users have received responses to YouTube tweets suggesting that the change is only an “experiment.”
But these seem to be generic responses rather than ones specific to the situation. This might be an experiment, but there is no word on what YouTube is trying to achieve by the new design.

One response from YouTube confirmed that most trials “only last a few weeks,” although it is unclear if that is the case for this ongoing makeover test.
Overall, it is unclear what the future of this controversial design is, with YouTube likely weighing user feedback against their own statistics and goals.
FAQs
What changes does the YouTube redesign introduce?
The redesign moves the video title, description, and comments to the side of the screen, replacing them with larger video recommendations beside the playing video.
Why is the YouTube redesign controversial?
Users have expressed strong dislike for the new layout, criticizing it for being less intuitive and disrupting the traditional viewing experience.
Is the YouTube redesign permanent?
YouTube has labeled the redesign as an “experiment,” and it’s unclear if it will become the default layout. The company is currently gathering data and user feedback.
How are users reacting to the redesign’s return?
Many users have reported seeing the new layout again and have voiced their dissatisfaction, similar to the initial negative feedback earlier this year.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 to Feature Only Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chipsets
Highlights
-
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 will exclusively use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets
-
New strategy aims for cost control and efficiency by eliminating the dual-chip approach
-
Renowned tipster leaks alleged renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 cover
-
Expected unveiling during Samsung’s second Unpacked event in 2024, slated for July 10
Samsung recently took the wraps off its best Galaxy S24 series, employing both Snapdragon and in-house Exynos chipsets.
The Galaxy S24 and S24+ in the United States sported the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while units in other regions sported Samsung’s Exynos 2400 processor.
Initially, Samsung was expected to follow the same dual-chip approach for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldable phones.
But now, there is a new rumor opposite to this claim, stating that Samsung is going to equip its next-generation foldables with just the newest Qualcomm processor.
Centralized Chipset on the Flip and Fold Series

News from the Korean website The Elec now says that Samsung will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPUs only in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.
According to the report, these chipsets will be labeled “For Galaxy,” much like other prior foldables, including the Galaxy S series.
The article says that “cost control” and “efficiency” are factors driving Samsung to do a single-chip strategy.
Designing the sixth-generation Galaxy Z Fold series around Qualcomm’s core from the very beginning and without the extra addition of another chipset may save costs.
Samsung has exclusively used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors in its foldable phones since their inception.
Based on the report, Samsung would save with the inclusion of Exynos chips “when foldable phones ship as many units as the S series.”
Other Z-fold and Flip Rumours

Meanwhile, renowned tipster Roland Quandt has leaked alleged renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 cover.
The leak reveals a familiar look for the smartphone, featuring a dual rear camera set and a flexible glass.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 during its second Unpacked event in 2024, slated on July 10.
Rumours about the phones’ specifications have already started circulating, including details about display refresh rates, RAM and storage options, and charging capabilities.

-

-
Users can utilize Shazam from the Control Center toggle for background music detection
-
The update enhances multitasking and music recognition capabilities on compatible iPhones
Popular music detection app Shazam has received an update to version 17.11 that adds Live Activities for supported iPhone models, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro.
Live Activities on Shazam

With the Live Activities feature, Shazam users on some iPhone models can now continue music detection in the background via the Dynamic Island while running other apps or carrying out other activities on their smartphone.
The Dynamic Island is the centerpiece distinguishing the iPhone 14 Pro models, offering smooth multitasking with seamless app updates and notifications display in a compact, dynamic form.
Interestingly, Shazam, which is Apple-owned software, has taken almost two years to add support for Live Activities.

One of the most easily available ways to utilize Shazam is by means of the Control Center toggle, firing up music detection with a single press.
Even then, the Live Activity works flawlessly without necessarily needing the full Shazam program running in the background.
Whenever Shazam is actively listening for music, the status will be indicated in the Dynamic Island.
When a song is detected, the Dynamic Island will show a notification along with haptic feedback, displaying the discovered music.

This update enhances the multitasking experience for Shazam users on compatible iPhones since they could now identify music playing in the background while doing other things with their device or running other applications.
While the integration of Live Activities support may be late, it is a welcome addition that streamlines the music recognition process and showcases the capabilities of the Dynamic Island feature on the latest iPhone models.

Apple Adds Support for Live Activities to Shazam .Details?
Apple today added support for Live Activities in Shazam, its free music discovery and identification app.
Shazam’s Live Activities keep the user updated when searching for music in the background, which is particularly useful when multitasking or identifying songs in other apps.
The last significant update to Shazam arrived in January, allowing users to identify songs from other apps while listening with headphones.
Apple acquired Shazam in 2018, and has been gradually bringing the app into closer alignment with Apple Music ever since, offering trials to the streaming service through the app and the ability to sync Shazams directly to Apple Music.
Shazam can be downloaded from the App Store for free.
It can be accessed through the Control Center on iPhone and iPad, through Siri commands, or on the Mac, as well as via widgets. Version 17.11 of Shazam is now available.
Apple opened up its Live Activities API to third-party iPhone apps with the release of iOS 16.1 in 2022, and many developers have since made good use of the feature.

Build and Design

The Realme Buds Air6 embody elegance and modernity, and are both practical and luxurious.
Mine was available in Flame Silver, featuring a chic two-tone color scheme.
It gives a nice contrast between the glossy inside surface and the matte exterior surface.
The ergonomic fit and lightweight construction make for easy wear during extended use.
They are perfect to use outdoors and during exercises because of the sturdy construction and IP55 water-resistant rating, which assures that they will withstand sweat and light rain.
They sport a USB Type-C port for fast charging and a pairing/reset button on the bottom.
Updates on battery, charging, and pairing status are shown on the front side LED indication.
Features and App

The Realme Buds Air6 have everything needed to make the whole experience much better.
They feature 50dB ANC, which clears ambient noise effectively, hence setting an immersive listening environment.
The Smart Adaptive Noise Cancellation with 4,000 Hz Ultra-wide Band Noise Cancellation and 6-mic ENC puts a lid on the calls well.
The earbuds support Hi-Res Audio via LDHC 5.0, which ensures high-quality sound.
The Bluetooth 5.3 allows for the pairing of two devices at the same time and fast, continuous communications.
The Realme Link app is a comprehensive tool that gives you access to a variety of functions like EQ adjustments, ANC modes, and real-time latency monitoring.
The app also includes preset modes for different scenarios and allows users to switch between ANC, Transparency, and Off modes.
The low latency Game mode, equalizer, Dynamic bass, Volume enhancer, Dolby Atmos, and gesture controls can also be managed through the app.
Sound Quality

Thanks to its 12.4mm Mega Titanizing Drivers with Dynamic Bass Boost, the Realme Buds Air6 has exceptionally good sound quality.
Its output is clear and balanced, with a strong bass, lush mids, and crisp highs.
The powerful bass and crisp vocals in The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” had me groove to the song.
For classical pieces like Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9,” the mids and highs were sharp and crystal clear, which made for an immersive experience.
The soundstage is big, which allows me to hear the individual instruments and subtle nuances in the song.
In gaming, the low latency of 55ms ensures that audio and visual elements are precisely synchronized.
While playing “Call of Duty: Mobile,” I could hear footsteps and gunshots with precise accuracy, giving me a competitive advantage.
Many EQ settings within the Realme Link app further enable you to customize the sound profile to different genres and preferences.
Battery Life

One of the notable qualities of the Realme Buds Air6 is its endurance.
Without the ANC on, the earbuds can play music for up to 40 hours in total. Each earbud can play music up to 10 hours without ANC.
With ANC on, battery life is reduced to about 30%, but it’s still amazing.
With the 10-minute quick charge available via USB Type-C, you get 7 hours of listening time, perfect for a quick top-up.
Full charge: 120 minutes for the buds and the case; 50 minutes for the buds only.
Final Verdict

The Realme Buds Air6 are excellent for their price.
It is certainly a very good option for someone looking for midrange wireless earbuds since it comes with 50dB ANC, 12.4mm drivers, Hi-Res Audio compatibility, low latency, and a long battery life.
The Realme Link app goes even further in expanding the capacity of the earbuds for added versatility and ease of use.
