Tests reveal Instagram recommends suggestive content to teen accounts
Meta’s promise of age-appropriate content for teens seemingly unfulfilled
Internal study shows teens see more inappropriate content than adults
TikTok and Snapchat perform better in similar tests
Instagram’s contentrecommendations for teens have been in the spotlight lately.
Researchers from The Wall Street Journal and Northwestern University ran a seven-month-long experiment ending in June, creating fake Instagram accounts for 13-year-olds and tracking the types of content suggestions they received.
Instagram Recommending Obscene Content
Instagram Under Fire for Recommending Inappropriate Content to Teens
What they found was pretty shocking: within minutes of logging in, the accounts were being shown videos of women in suggestive poses.
When those videos were watched, the Reels algorithmstarted suggesting even racier content.
In just three minutes, adult sex content creators were showing up in the feed!
Instagram Algorithm Continues To Recommend Sexual Content To Teen Accounts Despite Meta’s Promises: Report
They’d said they’d make the platform more age-appropriate for users 16 and younger by restricting access to sexually suggestive material.
But apparently, that promise hasn’t been kept.
Professor Laura Edelson from Northwestern University noted “All three platforms also say that there are differences in what content will be recommended to teens. But even the adult experience on TikTok appears to have much less explicit content than the teen experience on Reels.”
Meta’s Response
Meta’s promise of age-appropriate content for teens seemingly unfulfilled
When asked about the test results, Meta spokesman Andy Stone said, “This was an artificial experiment that doesn’t match the reality of how teens use Instagram.” The spokesman added, “As part of our long-running work on youth issues, we established an effort to further reduce the volume of sensitive content teens might see on Instagram, and have meaningfully reduced these numbers in the past few months.”
An internal study from 2022 showed that Instagram actually shows more porn to teens than it does to adults.
Like, a lot more.
Teens see three times as many posts with nudity, almost twice as many violent posts, and more than four times as many posts about bullying compared to users over 30.
Internal study shows teens see more inappropriate content than adults
In one test this month, a fake 13-year-old account started watching recommended videos about women for half an hour, and then it got sent videos about anal sex.
These findings are definitely concerning for parents of teenagerswho have phones.
It seems like Instagram is recommending inappropriate stuff to users as young as 13, even though Meta promised to keep them safe in the first place.
So, if you’re a parent, you might want to keep an eye on what your teen is watching on Insta.
FAQs
What kind of content is Instagram recommending to teens?
According to recent tests, Instagram is recommending sexually suggestive videos and images to accounts registered as 13-year-olds.
This includes videos of women in provocative poses and even content from adult sex creators, which appeared within minutes of account creation.
How does this compare to other social media platforms?
Tests conducted on TikTok and Snapchat showed that these platforms did not deliver the same level of sexually-focused content to underage users.
A TikTok spokesperson stated that they “err on the side of caution” when it comes to content for teen subscribers.
What has Meta said about these findings?
Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has dismissed the test results as artificial and not representative of how teens typically use Instagram.
They claim to have made efforts to reduce sensitive content for teens and say they’ve made significant progress in recent months.
Are there any internal studies from Meta about this issue?
Yes, an internal Meta analysis from 2022 revealed that Instagram shows more pornographic content to teens than to adult users.
The report indicated that teens saw three times more posts containing nudity, 1.7 times more violent posts, and 4.1 times more posts showing bullying than users over 30.
MediaTek Dimensity 7020 5G processor for smooth performance
5000 mAh battery with fast and wireless charging
The Infinix Note 40 5G is positioned as a revolutionary smartphone in its class, having several premieres in the segment: a 120 Hz AMOLED display with wireless charging, 108 MP camera, and a separate power management chip.
But first in the segment, what does all this mean for you though?
Is it good enough to be a smartphone?
Available at Rs. 19,999 (or Rs. 17,999 with bank offers) the company offers a perfect combination of newer features and superior performance to its rivals. For a limited period, the Infinix Note 40 5G comes with a MagPad and a MagCase worth Rs. 1,999/-
The Infinix Note 40 5G comes in a well-polished box with a minimalist and modern design that is in tune with the device’s high-end appeal.
In the package, you will get the handset itself, a clear protective cover, a 33W fast wired charger, a USB Type-C charging cable, and a SIM card removal pin.
Alongside that there is an additional accessory of a clear silicone case, a screen protector and also a for a limited period, with a MagPad and a MagCase worth Rs. 1,999.
Infinix Note 40 5G: Unboxing Video
A Matte Design and a Luminous Display
India’s First 120 Hz AMOLED Display with Wireless Charging
6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display
20 Hz refresh rate
93.8% screen-to-body ratio
1300 nits peak brightness
TÜV Rheinland Eye Care Certification
The design of the Infinix Note 40 5G is unique and eye-catching with a well-polished appearance.
Coming in the Titan Gold and Obsidian Black colors, the device has a minimalist design with a comfortable grip.
The 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate may be considered the most memorable, providing intense colors and seamless scrolling.
The 93.8 percent screen to body ratio can be attributed to its slim bezel and while also packing in a peak brightness of 1300 nits.
The high refresh rate and AMOLED technology gives you brilliant visuals in gaming or when watching videos, and with the TÜV Rheinland Eye Care Certification and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, it does not strain the eyes and displays true-to-life colours.
The device’s large size, however, might be challenging for one-handed use, particularly for users with smaller hands.
I also think that while the matte finish is eye-catching, it is not particularly good enough at avoiding smudges.
What about the Camera?
India’s First 108 MP Camera with Wireless Charging
108 MP triple rear camera
13 MP ultra-wide lens
2 MP depth sensor
32 MP front camera
Super Night Mode
Dual video mode
Video: 4K resolution at 30fps
In terms of the camera, the Infinix Note 40 5G has a 108MP triple rear camera and a 32 MP front camera, making it a reasonably good smartphone for mobile photography, at least in its price range.
The rear camera system has facilities such as 3x lossless zooming, super night mode, and AR shot.
It produces detailed and natural-looking photos during the day, with accurate color reproduction, and it also takes great low-light photos with minimal noise.
The front facing 32 MP camera guarantees that even selfies are taken with high clarity and good lighting.
For the video recording, it has features that allow for 4K recording, which makes the videos to be clear and with less jitters.
The dual video mode means that it can record videos from both the front and the rear cameras at the same time, which is perfect for vloggers.
While the AI processing may overdo the enhancement of images and make the photos look unnatural at times, the camera as a whole is very good and offers flexibility.

Performance and Gaming: A mid-range champ?
India’s First 256GB Storage with Wireless Charging
MediaTek Dimensity 7020 5G processor
8 GB RAM + 8 GB virtual RAM
256 GB internal storage
Game mode with 120 Hz refresh rate
In terms of the performance, the Infinix Note 40 5G is driven by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7020 5G processor, supported by 8 GB of RAM and up to 8 GB of virtual RAM, so that switching between applications is a breeze.
The internal storage of 256 GB is more than enough to store applications, images and videos and much more.
As for storage, the device has an internal memory of 256 GB which is sufficient to store apps, photos, videos, and other information.
This means that there is no tedious process of offloading data frequently, thus offering users a seamless experience.
Gaming-wise, the Note 40 5G does not disappoint.
Titles like “Call of Duty: All games, including “Mobile” and “PUBG Mobile” operate normally in medium to high graphics settings with very few frame drops.
The 120 Hz refresh rate is also beneficial for gaming as it provides smooth image transition and less input delay.
However, it is not perfect as after long hours of gaming, the device may get hot, and this may not be comfortable for some people.
I was one of those people and I don’t really recommend the handset for users with extremely heavy GPU demands.

The Infinix Note 40 5G is equipped with an array of features meticulously crafted to optimize the user’s interaction with the device.
A notable inclusion is the AI-driven Voice-Activated Halo Lighting, which employs nuanced color transitions to indicate various alerts, gaming statuses, and charging progress.
This feature not only embellishes the phone’s aesthetic appeal but also serves a practical purpose by providing visual cues for different scenarios.
As for the audio, the Note 40 5G boasts dual JBL-tuned speakers, which deliver a rich and enveloping sound profile.
This capability significantly enhances the user’s experience when engaged in activities such as video consumption, gaming, or music playback.
Operating on XOS 14, which is founded on the robust Android 14 framework, the smartphone presents a pristine and intuitive user interface.
Infinix is committed to delivering two substantial Android updates and three years of security patches, maintaining the device’s relevance and protection against cyber threats.
Further enhancing the device’s utility is the incorporation of an IR remote control, enabling users to manipulate a range of home appliances from the convenience of their phone.
The inclusion of NFC support helps in streamlines the process of mobile payments and data exchange, contributing to the overall versatility and practicality of the Infinix Note 40 5G.

Battery and Charging: Wireles Charging on a Budget
India’s 1st Wireless MagCharge Solution

33W fast charging
15W wireless charging
Bypass charging
Reverse charging
The Infinix Note 40 5G comes with a non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery that will allow for hours of usage.
The power management chip and the support for 33W fast charging also indicate that you can easily top up the battery.
Besides, it has wireless charging up to 15W and reverse charging, which creates comfort and flexibility.
Not sure how many people will ever get to use this feature but at least Infinix does include its wireless charger in the package with the main smartphone. However, as mentioned this is only for a limited period.
The long battery life is beneficial for usage without plugging in very often and the options for fast and wireless charging are also helpful.
However, the wireless charging capability is capped at 15W, which is significantly lower than the wired charging rates.
MagCharge Solution: MagPad and MagCase
The MagPad has a light & slim design, weighing 53g and measuring 6.9mm in thickness. It is made up of zinc alloy metal.
A magnetic coil is placed within the MagCase to place the device in correct position on to the MagPad, without compromising on device slimness.
Directions: Attach the MagCase on the back of the phone. Then, place the MagPad on the encircled portion of the case.

Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Build and Design
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Build
The Buds Air 6 Pro have a stylish design that stands out and is in line with modern trends.
Available in Titanium Twilight and Silver Blue colors, the earbuds are made to have a titanium metal-style surface process to give the product a luxurious reflective appearance.
The charging case is also designed in a similar manner, its slim and smooth contours resemble a pebble and fits nicely in the palm and can be easily pocketed.
The earbuds themselves are impressively light at just 4grams and come with the Apple H1 chip for seamless connectivity and audio controls.
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Design
7g each, which makes them very comfortable even when worn for a lengthy period.
The fit is ergonomic, and they are comfortable even for exercising since they do not easily fall out.
The touch-sensitive areas on the stems are sensitive and the position of the buttons is easily discernible by feel.
These buds have an IP55 rating which means they are resistant to both sweat and rain, thus making them even more suitable for daily use or workouts.
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Features
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Features
The Buds Air 6 Pro support the LDAC codec, allowing for high-quality audio streaming up to 990 kbps.
This is a significant upgrade from the previous generation and puts these earbuds in line with more premium offerings.
The Hi-Res Audio certification further attests to their audio capabilities.
Another one of the cool things about these earbuds is their 360° Spatial Audio effect, which makes it feel like the sound is coming at you from all around you.
It’s not quite as immersive as some pricier models, but it’s still a really neat feature for the price.
As a gamer, I was stoked to try out the 55ms super low latency mode.
It definitely helps keep the audio and the action on the screen in sync, but if you’re a total pro gamer, you might still notice a tiny bit of delay in really fast-paced games.
But hey, at this price point, you can’t really complain.
The Dual-device Connection 2.0 is pretty neat because it lets you use your Realme Buds Air 6 Pro with two gadgets at the same time, which is super handy these days with all the devices we’ve got.
But, I gotta say, it sometimes stumbles a bit when you’re hopping back and forth between them.
Realme threw in a cool feature called Mindflow mode, which gives you a bunch of white noise and chill sounds to help you relax or get in the zone.
It’s a good idea, but let’s be real, the picks aren’t as many as what you’d get from apps that do just that.
Don’t forget about the Realme Link app!
It’s like the buddy to your earbuds, giving you all sorts of ways to make them your own.
You can tweak the sound with EQ settings, play around with the touch controls, and mess with the ANC to get it just right.
There’s this thing called Personalized Audio Algorithm, which is like taking your earbuds to a little audio tailor.
It does a quick hearing test and then makes sure the sound fits your ears perfectly.
It’s a cool idea, but when you actually use it, the changes are pretty subtle.
One of the more interesting features in the app is the Personalized Audio Algorithm.
After a quick hearing test, the earbuds adjust their output to compensate for your specific hearing profile.
It’s an intriguing concept, though in practice, I found the differences to be subtle.
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Sound Quality
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Sound Quality
The Realme Buds Air 6 Pro are seriously impressive earbuds, packed with features that’ll blow you away for the price.
The coaxial dual-driver system, which is usually only found in pricier models, actually works wonders for the listening experience.
It’s made up of an 11mm bass driver and a 6mm micro-planar tweeter, which together create a wide soundstage and deliver clear audio across all frequencies.
Listening to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the earbuds handled the complex, multi-layered track with ease.
The vocals were crisp and well-defined, and the instruments were nicely separated, allowing you to pick out all the little details.
Next up was “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk, which really showed off the Buds Air 6 Pro’s bass performance.
The 11mm driver delivered punchy, controlled bass without ever drowning out the midrange.
It’s safe to say that these earbuds can handle any electronic musicyou throw at them.
It supports superior sound quality with dual drivers
For something a bit more mellow, I listened to “The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel.
The tiny 6mm micro-planar tweeter did an incredible job reproducing the delicate harmonies and finger-picked guitar, bringing out all the little nuances and details that really make the song special.
Honestly, for the price, it’s hard to believe how good the audio quality is.
The soundstage is impressively wide for in-ear headphones, giving a sense of space and instrument separation that enhances the listening experience.
High frequencies are bright without being harsh, mids are well-balanced, and the bass is deep and impactful when called for.
The Dynamic Bass Boost feature allows for customizable low-end emphasis, which I found useful for genres like hip-hop and EDM.
The 360° Spatial Audio effect, while not quite on par with more expensive options, does add an extra dimension to movies and specially mixed tracks.
It adjusts itself based on the environment you’re in, which is super helpful when you’re moving from one place to another.
Features upto 50dB active noise cancellation
And when you’re in transparency mode, it sounds really natural and bright, so you can still hear everything going on around you even when you’re wearing the earbuds.
The 6-mic system with ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) is a total game-changer for calls.
I tried it out in some pretty noisy environments, and I could hear myself clearly every time.
The background noise was practically nonexistent, and my voice came through loud and clear.
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Battery Life
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Long battery life with up to 40 hours of playtime
Realme claims up to 40 hours of total playtime with the charging case, and my testing largely bore this out.
With ANC off, I consistently got about 10-11 hours from the earbuds themselves, which is excellent.
With ANC on, this dropped to around 7-8 hours, still very respectable.
The charging case provides an additional three full charges.
The fast charging feature is a nice touch – a quick 10-minute charge provides about 8 hours of playback time, perfect for those times when you’ve forgotten to charge overnight.
Charging is via USB-C, and a full charge of both earbuds and case takes about 2 hours.
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Final Verdict
Realme Buds Air 6 Pro: Final Verdict
In conclusion, the Realme Buds Air 6 Pro offer an impressive combination of sound quality, features, and battery life at a competitive price point.
While they may not quite match the absolute top-tier earbuds in every aspect, they come remarkably close in many areas and even surpass some more expensive options in features like ANC strength and codec support.
For anyone looking for a premium earbud experiencewithout breaking the bank, the Buds Air 6 Pro are an excellent choice.

The LTPO technology dynamically adjusts the refresh rate based on the content being displayed, which can help conserve battery life during less demanding tasks.
The high brightness levels make outdoor use comfortable, even on sunny days.
However, it’s worth noting that the real-world experience of 6,000 nits peak brightness may be limited to specific scenarios or small areas of the screen.
Design
Realme GT 6: Design
The GT 6 and GT 6T share a nearly identical design:
Plastic frame
Plastic back panel
Dual-tone finish
Three circular camera modules (though the GT 6T only uses two)
The main visual difference is the absence of the third camera sensor on the GT 6T.
Both devices have a modern, sleek appearance typical of current smartphone design trends.
While both phones use plastic for their frame and back panel, the build quality is likely to be solid.
Realme GT 6T: Design
The use of plastic instead of glass or metal may make the devices more resistant to cracking if dropped, but potentially more prone to scratches over time.
The dual-tone finish adds visual interest, breaking up the large back panel.
The camera module design, with its circular elements, gives both phones a distinctive look.
However, the slight camera bump may cause the phones to rock slightly when placed on a flat surface without a case.
Battery and Software
Realme GT 6: Battery and Software
Both models feature:

Average 5G download speed in India dropped to 280.7 Mbps in Q4 2023
5G data consumption surged by 12.6%, reaching 6239 petabytes in Q4 2023
Reliance Jio leads with 108 million 5G subscribers, followed by Airtel with 72 million
Airtel expands 5G infrastructure, improving average download speeds to 273.6 Mbps
A report by Opensignal claimed that download speeds of India’s 5G network have slowed down in the fourth quarter of 2023.
In Q4 2023, the average 5G download speed came to 280.7 Mbps, as opposed to a significant fall from 304 Mbps witnessed in the first quarter.
5G Consumption on the Rise
5G Data Consumption and User Growth
According to the above press release, the fall in average revenue per user was mainly due to a large rise in 5G data consumption.
TRAI reported that there is a 12.6% rise in 5G data usage in Q4 2023, which reaches 6239 petabytes.
This surge is attributed to the rise in the number of 5G subscribers in the country.
At the end of Q4 2023, 5G users in India had already reached 180 million.
Impact on Download Speeds
Reliance Jiowas at the top with 108 million 5G subscribers while Airtel had 72 million users.
According to Jio, its 5G traffic was fast approaching 30% of total mobile data traffic.
The impact of this surge in consumption was clearly seen on declining download speeds.
For Opensignal, 5G speeds experienced a stiff fall during peak hours from 9 PM – 12 AM in Q1 2024 against Q1 2023, driven by increased evening usage for activities like streaming, gaming, and online shopping.
Airtel Expanding 5G Infrastructure
Airtel’s 5G performance improved in most regions except Punjab, Mumbai, and Delhi.
One of the important players of the Indian 5G market, Airtel, has concentrated its investments solely in 5G and has stopped 4G network expansions.
Deployed approximately 43,100 of their network sites and a total of 55,982 kilometers of fiber optic cables; these are all part of what it takes to maintain quality service.
Airtel is utilizing 5G NSA, with this non-standalone technology relying on a 4G core network.
5G data consumption surged by 12.6%, reaching 6239 petabytes in Q4 2023
That means India has 446,000 5G base transceiver stations at present, or 31 BTS per 100,000 people.
In comparison, the number stood at 593 in South Korea and 103 BTS per 100,000 people in the 27-country European Union, thus leaving a lot of scope for expansion of 5G infrastructure in the country.
Airtel’s 5G performanceshowed improvements in most regions, except for Punjab, Mumbai, and Delhi.
Airtel’s average 5G download speed increased to 273.6 Mbps in Q1 2024, from 260.4 Mbps in Q1 2023, with the availability of Airtel’s 5G growing from 12.5% to 20.7% during the same period.
Jio Download Speeds Falling
Jio’s national 5G download speed dropped from 323.6 Mbps in Q1 2023 to 261.8 Mbps in Q1 2024
On the other hand, Jio, another major operator, has seen a plethora of its national 5G download speed sink—from 323.6 Mbps recorded in Q1 2023 to 261.8 Mbps in Q1 2024.
Those areas that have been affected by this slump are predominantly from Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and West Bengal.
While the availability of 5G episodes for Jio increased drastically from 34.9% in Q1 2023 to 64.9% in Q1 2024, this change was caused by the addition of low-band spectrum, such as 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz, inside Jio’s arsenal.
Looking ahead, Opensignal will continue to monitor India’s 5G performance, especially with Vodafone Idea (Vi) preparing to launch 5G services.
A 5G spectrum auction scheduled for June 25, 2024, will include various bands valued at Rs. 96,317.65 crore, which could further shape the country’s 5G landscape.
