JioCinema's Expansion into Sports Streaming
JioCinema, the streaming platform most responsible for the continous ad fatigue, is perhaps taking heed from customers and is gearing up to launch a new ‘ad-free’ subscription plan.
When is this happening you ask?
The company has been teasing the launch of a new plan scheduled for April 25th, which will join its existing Rs. 999 yearly and Rs. 99 monthly plans.
“Change is constant, but your plan doesn’t have to be. A new plan. Coming April 25th.” JioCinema’s official handle shared on X with a teaser.
This JV aims to become “one of the leading TV and digital streaming platforms for entertainment and sports content in India, bringing together iconic media assets across entertainment (e.g.Colors, StarPlus, StarGOLD) and sports (e.g. Star Sports and Sports18),” the companies said in a joint statement.
The buzz began with a cryptic advertisement during a recent IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals on April 20th.
The ad featured a couple interrupted by the question “What’s the plan today?”, to which they responded, “Watching a series of ads.”

Now JioCinema has put to bed any rumours after it confirmed the upcoming ad-free plan with a new video on X (formerly Twitter).
While the 15-second video did not explicitly mention an ad-free plan, it addressed the issue of advertisements interfering with the viewing experience, even for those who pay for the premium subscription.
The pricing of the new ad-free plan is still unknown although there’s speculation that it may be priced slightly lower than the existing JioCinema plan, which is pretty surprising.
Additionally, the new plan could offer benefits like 4K streaming and the ability to download content.
Currently, viewers watching the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) matches on JioCinema are bombarded with numerous advertisements.
This plan will most likely eliminate these ads and thereby offer a much better viewing experience for subscribers.
Finally for those unfamiliar, JioCinema’s current premium plan is priced at Rs. 999 per year and includes content from popular platforms like HBO, featuring shows like Game of Thrones, Euphoria, and The White Lotus.
It supports up to 4 devices.
JioCinema is launching a new subscription option that allows viewers to enjoy content without interruptions from advertisements.
This plan is set to debut on April 25th, adding to the existing subscription tiers.
The ad-free plan is designed to eliminate interruptions during streaming, providing a seamless viewing experience.
This is particularly advantageous during live events like the IPL, where ads can be frequent and disruptive.
While the exact pricing details are yet to be announced, there is speculation that it might be slightly lower than the current Rs. 999 annual plan, making it an attractive offer for subscribers.
Beyond removing ads, the new plan is rumored to offer extra features such as 4K streaming quality and the capability to download content for offline viewing.
JioCinema’s Rs. 999 yearly plan includes a wide range of content from popular platforms like HBO, featuring hit shows such as Game of Thrones, Euphoria, and The White Lotus, and supports streaming on up to 4 devices.
