IPL 2023 concluded last night with Chennai Super Kings winning the title for the fifth time. The match was memorable as it was believed to be MS Dhoni’s last IPL but he surprised fans saying that he will be back for another IPL season.

IPL is one of the most popular cricket tournaments in India, and also on of the most viewed. The finale of IPL 2023 was no less as 3.2 crore viewers tuned in to watch the match live on JioCinema.

JioCinema offered free cricket streaming during the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2023. The OTT platform broke the world record for the most concurrent views to a live-streamed event with over 3.2 crore viewers watching the IPL finale between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

This was the first time IPL cricket matches were streamed for free and it happened soon after JioCinema got the streaming rights.

It also has content from Warner Bros Studio including the Harry Potter series, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Batman Vs Superman, and Justice League.

JioCinema announced on Twitter that it recorded 3.2 crore concurrent viewers during the final match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

This was during the time Sai Sudharsan was batting for GT. JioCinema broke its own record of the highest viewership which was 2.5 crore during the match between CSK and GT on May 23.

The streaming service has been witnessing peak viewership as it said it registered over 1,500 crore views within the first seven weeks of IPL. This is the first time that IPL was streamed on JioCinema after Viacom18 bagged digital streaming rights for IPL last year. IPL was previously streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.

Also, IPL on JioCinema was free to watch unlike Disney+ Hotstar which charged users.

The latest feat comes amid JioCinema’s quickly growing trajectory as one of the top streaming services in India. IPL itself was a big win for JioCinema but it also has been pushing its content portfolio with some major deals. One of the biggest is Viacom18’s exclusive deal with Warner Bros.
