Reliance Jio has unveiled its much-anticipated 5G-integrated fixed wireless access (FWA) service, Jio AirFiber, set to be introduced to the Indian market on September 19.
First spotlighted during the 2022 Reliance Industries’ annual general meeting, this avant-garde service promises lightning-fast internet speeds beyond 1 Gbps.
This service claims to rival fiber broadband speeds, including Jio’s very own Jio Fiber, all without leaning on optical wires.
Breaking away from the conventional broadband frameworks, Jio AirFiber’s distinctiveness lies in its utilisation of plug-and-play wireless routers.
Instead of depending on optical fiber cables like its cousin, Jio Fiber, the AirFiber creates a direct liaison with Jio towers through wireless router receivers.
This router, embedded with Wi-Fi functionalities, acts as a beacon, broadcasting 5G-ready internet signals to all tethered gadgets, sans optical fiber wires.
AirFiber’s beauty is its unfettered reach. Unbounded by optical cabling infrastructures like Jio Fiber, AirFiber’s coverage is expansive.
Deployment is a breeze, owing to its plug-in router system while there’s a lot of cable management required with JioFiber.
Additionally, Jio affirms that the AirFiber router will be aligned with the Wi-Fi 6 norms, integrating a robust security firewall for added protection.

In a bid to cater to diverse user needs, Jio will roll out two distinct AirFiber models – the standard AirFiber and the enhanced AirFiber Max.
The basic version guarantees data speeds up to 100 Mbps, whereas the Max variant promises to hit the 1 Gbps ceiling. Here’s a deeper dive into the plan specifics:

Jio AirFiber is a state-of-the-art fixed wireless access service that relies on wireless routers rather than optical fiber cables. This allows for direct connections with Jio towers, providing fast and efficient internet speeds.
While Jio Fiber relies on optical cable infrastructures, Jio AirFiber’s strength is its broad coverage without such constraints. Additionally, AirFiber’s router is compliant with the Wi-Fi 6 standard and has an integrated security firewall.
Prospective users can initiate the booking process by giving a missed call to 60008-60008, visiting the official Jio website, or dropping by the nearest Jio Store. Once registered, Jio will contact you to set up the service at your residence.
