Apple’s next affordable iPhone, the iPhone SE 4, is shaping up to be a major upgrade over the current model.
While the higher-end iPhone 16 is grabbing headlines, this low-cost device could bring some substantial changes too.
Here are four key things we’re expecting from the iPhone SE 4 based on the latest rumors.
One of the biggest changes will be an overhauled design for the iPhone SE 4.
The current iPhone SE still uses an older iPhone 8-style look with large bezels around the 4.7-inch display and a home button.
But leaked CAD renders suggest the SE 4 will adopt a much more modern design similar to the iPhone 14, with a 6.1-inch OLED display featuring a notch cutout and flat edges instead of curved sides.
Reported dimensions have it measuring around 147.7 x 71.5 x 7.7mm.
With the new notched display design, the iPhone SE 4 is also expected to finally ditch the home button and Touch ID in favor of Face ID for biometric authentication.
The Face ID sensors and camera would be housed in that notch cutout area.
While the current iPhone SE 3 uses the A15 chip which is still quite capable, the iPhone SE 4 will likely see another performance boost with a newer processor.
There’s no confirmation yet, but the A17 chip seems a likely candidate to power this affordable 2025 iPhone.
Finally, the iPhone SE 4 will be making the switch from Lightning to USB-C for charging and data transfer.
This brings it in line with the iPhone 15 lineup and ahead of upcoming EU legislation requiring phones to use USB-C.
As for when we can expect to see the iPhone SE 4 released, the timeline remains a bit uncertain based on conflicting reports.
The latest supply chain rumors suggest it likely won’t arrive until 2025, despite being anticipated for over 18 months now.
But with its significant design changes and upgrades, the iPhone SE 4 could deliver a compelling affordable iPhone experience whenever it does launch.
