Renascence of Huawei

Huawei Reclaims Top Spot in Chinese Smartphone Market with 70% Growth

According to Canalys analyst Toby Zhu, the reason behind the success of Huawei is the good response from customers for their Mate and Nova series of smartphones.

The reason that led to Huawei’s overall growth was an improvement in the production and supply of the Mate 60 series phones.

Huawei’s Own Software, Chips Help Comeback

Successful Mate and Nova series drive Huawei’s growth

With its 4.0 Hongmeng operating system and Kirin processors in its smartphones, Huawei’s strategy paid off.

The Nova 12 series, released in December, applies Hongmeng 4.0 and supports two-way satellite communications to pump up the performance in the price level of the mid-range.

Huawei also recently updated its P series to the Pura 70, with new telescopic lens technology to deliver better camera performance.

This created a lot of hype in the market. With these moves, Huawei now has refreshed all its major smartphone product lines.

Focus on AI and Growing Ecosystem

Huawei’s Hongmeng 4.0 OS and Kirin processors contribute to comeback

Huawei is building artificial intelligence capabilities in its smart devices from the hardware and software level.

Huawei is applying its experience with AI in telecommunications and industry applications.

With the growing Hongmeng operating system ecosystem, Huawei has become the third-largest smartphone operating system in China after Android and iOS.

Competition Remains Tough in China

Competition remains fierce with OPPO, Honor, Vivo, and Apple

While Huawei’s comeback is remarkable, other brands perform good as well.

OPPO’s Reno 11 series pushed it to second place with 10.9 million shipments.

Honor took third place with 10.6 million units shipped, climbing up 9% from last year.

Vivo was close behind in fourth with 10.3 million, but down 9% year-over-year.

Apple had the biggest drop among top brands, falling to fifth place with 10 million shipments, down 25% compared to the first quarter of 2023.

So while Huawei has reclaimed the number one position, the competition in China’s huge smartphone market remains intense.
