Google has unveiled a convenient update for Google Wallet that automatically imports boarding passes and movie tickets directly from Gmail.
This feature has already gone live for select movie chains and airlines globally and it comes as a part of Google’s broader strategy to enhance the utility of Google Wallet, making it a more central hub for users’ digital passes and tickets.
Previously, users had two primary methods to add tickets to Google Wallet: clicking an “Add to Google Wallet” button on a booking partner’s website or taking a screenshot of a ticket’s QR code and uploading it to the app.
The introduction of this automatic feature marks a significant leap in convenience, allowing for a seamless transition of ticket information from Gmail to Google Wallet.
However, it’s worth noting that this feature’s availability is currently limited to specific booking platforms only.
Its availability in the Indian market also remains unconfirmed.
Alongside this update, Google Wallet has undergone adjustments to better support boarding passes, such as improved display features for date and time information and more accessible AppLinkData definitions.
These changes aim to provide users with quick access to essential details and the originating app or website.
Furthermore, Google has introduced the option for users to manually archive passes, a handy feature for decluttering the app’s home screen without permanently deleting passes.
An intriguing beta feature is also on the horizon promising to integrate Wallet passes with Google Shopping, showcasing membership benefits directly within Google Wallet, though this is currently limited to testing in the United States.
The feature automatically retrieves boarding passes and movie tickets from your Gmail account, adding them to your Google Wallet without any manual action required from you.
Currently, the feature is available for select airlines and movie chains globally. Google is actively working to expand its availability to more partners.
Yes, you can manually add tickets either by clicking an “Add to Google Wallet” button on a partner’s site or by uploading a screenshot of the ticket’s QR code to the app.
Google Wallet has enhanced its display of date and time information for boarding passes and made AppLinkData definitions more accessible, improving overall user experience.
A notable future update includes integrating Wallet passes with Google Shopping to display membership benefits of loyalty cards. This feature is currently in beta testing in the United States.
