Google’s yearly developer shindig, I/O 2024, is just around the corner on 14th May.
Like always, Google is expected to make a bunch of exciting announcements, including a new version of Android called Android 15, and more.
But more than the next operating system update, all eyes are on Google’s upcoming budget-friendly Pixel phone, the Pixel 8a.
Rumours suggest the Pixel 8a will be an upgrade over previous models with AI-powered improvements.
And with all the new upgrades, recent leaks hint that the new affordable Pixel will cost a bit more than last year’s Pixel 7a, but it’s still expected to be the most affordable option in Google’s Pixel 8 range.
According to the latest leak by PassionateGeekz, who spotted the Pixel 8a’s price on a Canadian retailer’s listing, the Google Pixel 8a could cost slightly more than its predecessor.
In Canada, the 128GB storage model is rumoured to be priced at CAD 708.99 (about Rs 40,000), while the 256GB option could set you back CAD 792.99 (about Rs 50,000).
If the leaks are accurate, the Pixel 8a will likely see a price increase of £50 to £100 in the UK compared to the Pixel 7a, which launched at £399 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.
Google’s upcoming Pixel 8a will reportedly follow a similar design language as the flagship Pixel 8, with slight tweaks to fit its more budget-friendly positioning.
Let’s take a peek at the expected specs and features of the Pixel 8a.
The battery is rumoured to be a 4,700mAh unit, slightly larger than the Pixel 7a’s 4,410mAh battery.
This should provide better battery life and possibly improved fast charging capabilities too.
Other rumoured specs include a 6.1-inch 120Hz display (up from 90Hz on 7a), a camera system similar to or slightly better than the Pixel 7a with a 64MP main camera, the latest Tensor G3 chip, and Android 14 out of the box with 3 years of OS updates.
While we’re just a month away from Google’s I/O event, these leaks give us an exciting preview of what to expect from the affordable Pixel 8a.
